September 14, 2015 - As part of its ongoing series of "Dear Colleague" letters articulating research interests, the National Science Foundation has published a letter expressing its intent to support fundamental research that addresses challenges in enabling Smart and Connected Communities (S&CC).

July 17, 2015 - For the second consecutive year, the University of California, Berkeley hosted the Girls in Engineering program for middle school girls as part of an effort to narrow the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. FORCES researcher Claire Tomlin directed the program, which recruited girls from schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.

January 20, 2015 - UC Berkeley graduate Jack Reilly, now at Google, has received the Milton Pikarsky Memorial Award in Science and Technology from the Council of Universities Transportation Center (CUTC). The award recognizes work he completed at Berkeley while being advised by FORCES researcher Professor Alex Bayen. Graduate students from academic transportation centers across the U.S. were nominated for the award.

September 24, 2014 - Asuman Ozdaglar, FORCES researcher and Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, has been appointed the next Director of the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS). Professor Ozdaglar is known nationally and internationally for her work and has won numerous awards. She is also a dedicated teacher who has mentored Ph.D.

June 18, 2014 - FORCES investigator Janos Sztipanovits, Professor of Engineering and Director of the Institute for Software Integrated Systems at Vanderbilt University, is quoted in The Tennessean about opportunities and challenges for an "Internet of Things." While there is enormous potential as people, organizations, and devices are more connected, barriers exist to making this vision a reality
