    Visible to the public HotSoS 2014 - Meeting Artifacts Available Online

    The 2014 Symposium and Bootcamp on the Science of Security (HotSoS) was held April 8-9, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Presentations given at this meeting are archived at http://cps-vo.org/group/sos/hotsos2014/program .

    Over 130 leaders from government, industry, and the academic community met to discuss new and ongoing programs in security science. The presentations emphasized a broad range of topics including computing architectures, networks, software engineering practices, models of human interaction and behavior, organizational models, and evaluation methodologies.

    For the past three years, the National Security Agency (NSA) and US Government have been partnering with academia to create a research community dedicated to the Science of Security (SoS). More recently, NSA made a strong commitment to this venture by giving almost three hundred departments at universities the opportunity to receive funding to develop “Lablets” in partnership with private industry and NSA.

Study participants were selected from over 200 programs followed by the IBM Cyber Security Innovation initiative.

JSCoRE will further provide for the dissemination, review, and reuse of ideas enabling the advancement of science, as well as recognition of the contribution of individuals.

    Visible to the public Science of Security Community Survey

    The government is sponsoring this survey to identify research currently being done in the Science of Security (SoS) as well as research that might apply to the Science of Security.

    The results of the survey will be used to build a Science of Security community, to nurture and foster research being done in the discipline, and to identify centers and labs that are leading the way in specific research areas. Survey results will also help the Government determine where best to apply Federal resources to influence relevant research and close identifiable gaps.

    North Carolina State University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Carnegie Mellon University are each receiving an initial $2.5 million in grant funds from the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) to stimulate the creation of a more scientific basis for the design and analysis of trusted systems.

    The co-principal investigators for the NC State Science of Security Lablet are Dr. Laurie Williams, professor of computer science, and Dr. Michael Rappa, director of the Institute of Advanced Analytics and professor of computer science.
