Suzic, B., Latinovic, M..  2020.  Rethinking Authorization Management of Web-APIs. 2020 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications (PerCom). :1—10.

Service providers typically utilize Web APIs to enable the sharing of tenant data and resources with numerous third party web, cloud, and mobile applications. Security mechanisms such as OAuth 2.0 and API keys are commonly applied to manage authorization aspects of such integrations. However, these mechanisms impose functional and security drawbacks both for service providers and their users due to their static design, coarse and context insensitive capabilities, and weak interoperability. Implementing secure, feature-rich, and flexible data sharing services still poses a challenge that many providers face in the process of opening their interfaces to the public. To address these issues, we design the framework that allows pluggable and transparent externalization of authorization functionality for service providers and flexibility in defining and managing security aspects of resource sharing with third parties for their users. Our solution applies a holistic perspective that considers service descriptions, data fragments, security policies, as well as system interactions and states as an integrated space dynamically exposed and collaboratively accessed by agents residing across organizational boundaries. In this work we present design aspects of our contribution and illustrate its practical implementation by analyzing case scenario involving resource sharing of a popular service.

Existing systems allow manufacturers to acquire factory floor data and perform analysis with cloud applications for machine health monitoring, product quality prediction, fault diagnosis and prognosis etc. However, they do not provide capabilities to perform testing of machine tools and associated components remotely, which is often crucial to identify causes of failure. This paper presents a fault diagnosis system in a cyber-physical manufacturing cloud (CPMC) that allows manufacturers to perform diagnosis and maintenance of manufacturing machine tools through remote monitoring and online testing using Machine Tool Communication (MTComm). MTComm is an Internet scale communication method that enables both monitoring and operation of heterogeneous machine tools through RESTful web services over the Internet. It allows manufacturers to perform testing operations from cloud applications at both machine and component level for regular maintenance and fault diagnosis. This paper describes different components of the system and their functionalities in CPMC and techniques used for anomaly detection and remote online testing using MTComm. It also presents the development of a prototype of the proposed system in a CPMC testbed. Experiments were conducted to evaluate its performance to diagnose faults and test machine tools remotely during various manufacturing scenarios. The results demonstrated excellent feasibility to detect anomaly during manufacturing operations and perform testing operations remotely from cloud applications using MTComm.

Bolla, R., Carrega, A., Repetto, M..  2019.  An abstraction layer for cybersecurity context. 2019 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC). :214—218.

The growing complexity and diversification of cyber-attacks are largely reflected in the increasing sophistication of security appliances, which are often too cumbersome to be run in virtual services and IoT devices. Hence, the design of cyber-security frameworks is today looking at more cooperative models, which collect security-related data from a large set of heterogeneous sources for centralized analysis and correlation. In this paper, we outline a flexible abstraction layer for access to security context. It is conceived to program and gather data from lightweight inspection and enforcement hooks deployed in cloud applications and IoT devices. We also provide a preliminary description of its implementation, by reviewing the main software components and their role.

Sokolov, S. A., Iliev, T. B., Stoyanov, I. S..  2019.  Analysis of Cybersecurity Threats in Cloud Applications Using Deep Learning Techniques. 2019 42nd International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO). :441–446.

In this paper we present techniques based on machine learning techniques on monitoring data for analysis of cybersecurity threats in cloud environments that incorporate enterprise applications from the fields of telecommunications and IoT. Cybersecurity is a term describing techniques for protecting computers, telecommunications equipment, applications, environments and data. In modern networks enormous volume of generated traffic can be observed. We propose several techniques such as Support Vector Machines, Neural networks and Deep Neural Networks in combination for analysis of monitoring data. An approach for combining classifier results based on performance weights is proposed. The proposed approach delivers promising results comparable to existing algorithms and is suitable for enterprise grade security applications.

Ghosh, U., Chatterjee, P., Tosh, D., Shetty, S., Xiong, K., Kamhoua, C..  2017.  An SDN Based Framework for Guaranteeing Security and Performance in Information-Centric Cloud Networks. 2017 IEEE 10th International Conference on Cloud Computing (CLOUD). :749–752.

Cloud data centers are critical infrastructures to deliver cloud services. Although security and performance of cloud data centers have been well studied in the past, their networking aspects are overlooked. Current network infrastructures in cloud data centers limit the ability of cloud provider to offer guaranteed cloud network resources to users. In order to ensure security and performance requirements as defined in the service level agreement (SLA) between cloud user and provider, cloud providers need the ability to provision network resources dynamically and on the fly. The main challenge for cloud provider in utilizing network resource can be addressed by provisioning virtual networks that support information centric services by separating the control plane from the cloud infrastructure. In this paper, we propose an sdn based information centric cloud framework to provision network resources in order to support elastic demands of cloud applications depending on SLA requirements. The framework decouples the control plane and data plane wherein the conceptually centralized control plane controls and manages the fully distributed data plane. It computes the path to ensure security and performance of the network. We report initial experiment on average round-trip delay between consumers and producers.

Most existing approaches focus on examining the values are dangerous for information flow within inter-suspicious modules of cloud applications (apps) in a host by using malware threat analysis, rather than the risk posed by suspicious apps were connected to the cloud computing server. Accordingly, this paper proposes a taint propagation analysis model incorporating a weighted spanning tree analysis scheme to track data with taint marking using several taint checking tools. In the proposed model, Android programs perform dynamic taint propagation to analyse the spread of and risks posed by suspicious apps were connected to the cloud computing server. In determining the risk of taint propagation, risk and defence capability are used for each taint path for assisting a defender in recognising the attack results against network threats caused by malware infection and estimate the losses of associated taint sources. Finally, a case of threat analysis of a typical cyber security attack is presented to demonstrate the proposed approach. Our approach verified the details of an attack sequence for malware infection by incorporating a finite state machine (FSM) to appropriately reflect the real situations at various configuration settings and safeguard deployment. The experimental results proved that the threat analysis model allows a defender to convert the spread of taint propagation to loss and practically estimate the risk of a specific threat by using behavioural analysis with real malware infection.
