Due to immense need for implementing security measures and control ongoing activities, intelligent video analytics is regarded as one of the outstanding and challenging research domains in Computer Vision. Assigning video operator to manually monitor the surveillance videos 24×7 to identify occurrence of interesting and anomalous events like robberies, wrong U-turns, violence, accidents is cumbersome and error- prone. Therefore, to address the issue of continuously monitoring surveillance videos and detect the anomalies from them, a deep learning approach based on pipelined sequence of convolutional autoencoder and sequence to sequence long short-term memory autoencoder has been proposed. Specifically, unsupervised learning approach encompassing one-class classification paradigm has been proposed for detection of anomalies in videos. The effectiveness of the propped model is demonstrated on benchmarked anomaly detection dataset and significant results in terms of equal error rate, area under curve and time required for detection have been achieved.

Host-based Intrusion Detection Systems HIDS are often based on anomaly detection. Several studies deal with anomaly detection by analyzing the system-call traces and get good detection rates but also a high rate off alse positives. In this paper, we propose a new anomaly detection approach applied on the system-call traces. The normal behavior learning is done using a Sequence to sequence model based on a Variational Encoder-Decoder (VED) architecture that integrates Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) cells. We exploit the semantics behind the invoking order of system-calls that are then seen as sentences. A preprocessing phase is added to structure and optimize the model input-data representation. After the learning step, a one-class classification is run to categorize the sequences as normal or abnormal. The architecture may be used for predicting abnormal behaviors. The tests are achieved on the ADFA-LD dataset.

Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are important security tools. NIDS monitors network's traffic and HIDS filters local one. HIDS are often based on anomaly detection. Several studies deal with anomaly detection using system-call traces. In this paper, we propose an anomaly detection and prediction approach. System-call traces, invoked by the running programs, are analyzed in real time. For prediction, we use a Sequence to sequence model based on variational encoder-decoder (VED) and variants of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), these architectures showed their performance on natural language processing. Over the past few years, botnets have emerged as one of the most serious cybersecurity threats faced by individuals and organizations. After infecting millions of servers and workstations worldwide, botmasters have started to develop botnets for mobile devices. Mobile botnets use different mediums to communicate with their botmasters. Although significant research has been done to detect mobile botnets that use the Internet as their command and control (C&C) channel, little research has investigated SMS botnets per se. In order to fill this gap, in this paper, we first divide SMS botnets based on their characteristics into three families, namely, info stealer, SMS stealer, and SMS spammer. Then, we propose SMSBotHunter, a novel anomaly detection technique that detects SMS botnets using textual and behavioral features and one-class classification. We experimentally evaluate the detection performance of SMSBotHunter by simulating the behavior of human users and SMS botnets. The experimental results demonstrate that most of the SMS messages sent or received by info stealer and SMS spammer botnets can be detected using textual features exclusively. It is also revealed that behavioral features are crucial for the detection of SMS stealer botnets and will improve the overall detection performance.

Social networks are highly preferred to express opinions, share information, and communicate with others on arbitrary topics. However, the downside is that many cybercriminals are leveraging social networks for cyber-crime. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is the important social networks which can grant the anonymity to users by allowing them to connect channels without sign-up process. Therefore, IRC has been the playground of hackers and anonymous users for various operations such as hacking, cracking, and carding. Hence, it is urgent to study effective methods which can identify the authors behind the IRC messages. In this paper, we design an autonomic IRC monitoring system, performing recursive deep learning for classifying threat levels of messages and develop a novel author verification approach with one-class classification with deep autoencoder neural networks. The experimental results show that our approach can successfully perform effective author verification for IRC users.

In this paper we study keystroke dynamics as an authentication mechanism for touch screen based devices. The authentication process decides whether the identity of a given person is accepted or rejected. This can be easily implemented by using a two-class classifier which operates with the help of positive samples (belonging to the authentic person) and negative ones. However, collecting negative samples is not always a viable option. In such cases a one-class classification algorithm can be used to characterize the target class and distinguish it from the outliers. We implemented an authentication test-framework that is capable of working with both one-class and two-class classification algorithms. The framework was evaluated on our dataset containing keystroke samples from 42 users, collected from touch screen-based Android devices. Experimental results yield an Equal Error Rate (EER) of 3% (two-class) and 7% (one-class) respectively.
