Leak, Matthew Haslett, Venayagamoorthy, Ganesh Kumar.  2022.  Situational Awareness of De-energized Lines During Loss of SCADA Communication in Electric Power Distribution Systems. 2022 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (T&D). :1–5.

With the electric power distribution grid facing ever increasing complexity and new threats from cyber-attacks, situational awareness for system operators is quickly becoming indispensable. Identifying de-energized lines on the distribution system during a SCADA communication failure is a prime example where operators need to act quickly to deal with an emergent loss of service. Loss of cellular towers, poor signal strength, and even cyber-attacks can impact SCADA visibility of line devices on the distribution system. Neural Networks (NNs) provide a unique approach to learn the characteristics of normal system behavior, identify when abnormal conditions occur, and flag these conditions for system operators. This study applies a 24-hour load forecast for distribution line devices given the weather forecast and day of the week, then determines the current state of distribution devices based on changes in SCADA analogs from communicating line devices. A neural network-based algorithm is applied to historical events on Alabama Power's distribution system to identify de-energized sections of line when a significant amount of SCADA information is hidden.

Sharma, Neha, Ramachandran, Ramkumar Ketti.  2019.  Security challenges for Water Distribution System Using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). 2019 Fifth International Conference on Image Information Processing (ICIIP). :234–239.
In the distributed Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) system there is a need of doing the acquisition of very large amount of data on the network to visualize the same process in realtime or in the future. Water is distributed automatically to large area through autonomous SCADA systems. This makes the systems prone to various attacks at different instances and levels. The SCADA systems are also used for distributing common resources that range from Gas, Electricity, and Water distribution. It is the need of the hour to work on the security issues of such distribution systems to provide hassle-free services. This paper reviews the major problems on the water distribution system and possible attacks that are harmful during data acquisition and transfer. This paper also gives the insight on the latest technologies like elastic search and data modelling to increase the security of the water distribution system.

The virtual world does not observe national borders, has no uniform legal system, and does not have a common perception of security and privacy issues. It is however, relatively homogenous in terms of technology.A cyberattack on an energy delivery system can have significant impacts on the availability of a system to perform critical functions as well as the integrity of the system and the confidentiality of sensitive information.

P..  2017.  Intelligent System for Automatic Performance Evaluation of Distribution System Operators. 2017 19th International Conference on Intelligent System Application to Power Systems (ISAP). :1–6.
The performance evaluation of distribution network operators is essential for the electrical utilities to know how prepared the operators are to execute their operation standards and rules, searching for minimizing the time of power outage, after some contingency. The performance of operators can be evaluated by the impact of their actions on several technical and economic indicators of the distribution system. This issue is a complex problem, whose solution involves necessarily some expertise and a multi-criteria evaluation. This paper presents a Tutorial Expert System (TES) for performance evaluation of electrical distribution network operators after a given contingency in the electrical network. The proposed TES guides the evaluation process, taking into account technical, economic and personal criteria, aiding the quantification of these criteria. A case study based on real data demonstrates the applicability of the performance evaluation procedure of distribution network operators.
