The security threats to mobile applications are growing explosively. Mobile apps flaws and security defects open doors for hackers to break in and access sensitive information. Defensive requirements analysis should be an integral part of secure mobile SDLC. Developers need to consider the information confidentiality and data integrity, to verify the security early in the development lifecycle rather than fixing the security holes after attacking and data leaks take place. Early eliminating known security vulnerabilities will help developers increase the security of apps and reduce the likelihood of exploitation. However, many software developers lack the necessary security knowledge and skills at the development stage, and that's why Secure Mobile Software Development education is very necessary for mobile software engineers. In this paper, we propose a guided security requirement analysis based on OWASP Mobile Top ten security risk recommendations for Android mobile software development and its traceability of the developmental controls in SDLC. Building secure apps immune to the OWASP Mobile Top ten risks would be an effective approach to provide very useful mobile security guidelines.

Location privacy is one of most frequently discussed terms in the mobile devices security breaches and data leaks. With the expected growth of the number of IoT devices, which is 20 billions by 2020., location privacy issues will be further brought to focus. In this paper we give an overview of location privacy implications in wireless networks, mainly focusing on user's Preferred Network List (list of previously used WiFi Access Points) contained within WiFi Probe Request packets. We will showcase the existing work and suggest interesting topics for future work. A chronological overview of sensitive location data we collected on a musical festival in years 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018 is provided. We conclude that using passive WiFi monitoring scans produces different results through years, with a significant increase in the usage of a more secure Broadcast Probe Request packets and MAC address randomizations by the smartphone operating systems.

A multitude of leaked data can be purchased through the Dark Web nowadays. Recent reports highlight that the largest footprints of leaked data, which range from employee passwords to intellectual property, are linked to governmental institutions. According to OWL Cybersecurity, the US Navy is most affected. Thinking of leaked data like personal files, this can have a severe impact. For example, it can be the cornerstone for the start of sophisticated social engineering attacks, for getting credentials for illegal system access or installing malicious code in the target network. If personally identifiable information or sensitive data, access plans, strategies or intellectual property are traded on the Dark Web, this could pose a threat to the armed forces. The actual impact, role, and dimension of information treated in the Dark Web are rarely analysed. Is the available data authentic and useful? Can it endanger the capabilities of armed forces? These questions are even more challenging, as several well-known cases of deanonymization have been published over recent years, raising the question whether somebody really would use the Dark Web to sell highly sensitive information. In contrast, fake offers from scammers can be found regularly, only set up to cheat possible buyers. A victim of illegal offers on the Dark Web will typically not go to the police. The paper analyses the technical base of the Dark Web and examines possibilities of deanonymization. After an analysis of Dark Web marketplaces and the articles traded there, a discussion of the potential risks to military operations will be used to identify recommendations on how to minimize the risk. The analysis concludes that surveillance of the Dark Web is necessary to increase the chance of identifying sensitive information early; but actually the `open' internet, the surface web and the Deep Web, poses the more important risk factor, as it is - in practice - more difficult to surveil than the Dark Web, and only a small share of breached information is traded on the latter.

Numerous IoT applications, like building automation or process control of industrial sites, exist today. These applications inherently have a strong connection to the physical world. Hence, IT security threats cannot only cause problems like data leaks but also safety issues which might harm people. Attacks on IT systems are not only performed by outside attackers but also insiders like administrators. For this reason, we present ongoing work on a Byzantine fault tolerant configuration management system (CMS) that provides control over administrators, restrains their rights, and enforces separation of concerns. We reach this goal by conducting a configuration management process that requires multi-party authorization for critical configurations to prevent individual malicious administrators from performing undesired actions. Only after a configuration has been authorized by multiple experts, it is applied to the targeted devices. For the whole configuration management process, our CMS guarantees accountability and traceability. Lastly, our system is tamper-resistant as we leverage Hyperledger Fabric, which provides a distributed execution environment for our CMS and a blockchain-based distributed ledger that we use to store the configurations. A beneficial side effect of this approach is that our CMS is also suitable to manage configurations for infrastructure shared across different organizations that do not need to trust each other.
