Evaluating the security gains brought by software diversity is one key issue of software diversity research, but the existing software diversity evaluation methods are generally based on conventional code features and are relatively single, which are difficult to accurately reflect the security gains brought by software diversity. To solve these problems, from the perspective of return-oriented programming (ROP) attack, we present a software diversity evaluation method which integrates metrics for the quality and distribution of gadgets. Based on the proposed evaluation method and SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine, we implement a software diversity evaluation system for compiled languages and script languages. Diversity techniques with different granularities are used to test. The evaluation results show that the proposed evaluation method can accurately and comprehensively reflect the security gains brought by software diversity.

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have become a communication medium for accessing information, data exchange and flow of information. Many organizations require Intranet or VPN, for data access, access to servers from computers and sharing different types of data among their offices and users. A secure VPN environment is essential to the organizations to protect the information and their IT infrastructure and their assets. Every organization needs to protect their computer network environment from various malicious cyber threats. This paper presents a comprehensive network security management which includes significant strategies and protective measures during the management of a VPN in an organization. The paper also presents the procedures and necessary counter measures to preserve the security of VPN environment and also discussed few Identified Security Strategies and measures in VPN. It also briefs the Network Security and their Policies Management for implementation by covering security measures in firewall, visualized security profile, role of sandbox for securing network. In addition, a few identified security controls to strengthen the organizational security which are useful in designing a secure, efficient and scalable VPN environment, are also discussed.

Centrality measures on graphs have found applications in a large number of domains including modeling the spread of an infection/disease, social network analysis, and transportation networks. As a result, parallel algorithms for computing various centrality metrics on graphs are gaining significant research attention in recent years. In this paper, we study parallel algorithms for the percolation centrality measure which extends the betweenness-centrality measure by incorporating a time dependent state variable with every node. We present parallel algorithms that compute the source-based and source-destination variants of the percolation centrality values of nodes in a network. Our algorithms extend the algorithm of Brandes, introduce optimizations aimed at exploiting the structural properties of graphs, and extend the algorithmic techniques introduced by Sariyuce et al. [26] in the context of centrality computation. Experimental studies of our algorithms on an Intel Xeon(R) Silver 4116 CPU and an Nvidia Tesla V100 GPU on a collection of 12 real-world graphs indicate that our algorithmic techniques offer a significant speedup.

For systems with order of dynamics higher than two and oscillating loads with low damping, a non-collocation of the sensing and control can deteriorate robustness of the feedback and, in worst case, even bring it to instability. Furthermore, for a contactless sensing of the oscillating mechanical load, like in the system under investigation, the control structure is often restricted to the single proportional feedback only. This paper proposes a novel robust feedback control scheme for a low-damped fourth-order system using solely the measured load displacement. For reference tracking, the loop shaping design relies on a band reject filter, while the plant uncertainties are used as robustness measure for determining the feedback gain. Since prime uncertainties are due to the stiffness of elastic link, correspondingly connecting spring, and due to the gain of actuator transducer, the loop sensitivity function with additive plant variation is used for robustness measure. In order to deal with unknown disturbances, which are inherently exciting the load oscillations independently of the loop shaping performance, an output delay-based compensator is proposed as a second control-degree-of-freedom. That one requires an estimate of the load oscillation frequency only and does not affect the shaped open-loop behavior, correspondingly sensitivity function. An extensive numerical setup of the modeled system, a two-mass oscillator with contactless sensing of the load under gravity and low damping of the connecting spring, is used for the control evaluation and assessment of its robustness.

Human-robot trust is crucial to successful human-robot interaction. We conducted a study with 798 participants distributed across 32 conditions using four dimensions of human-robot trust (reliable, capable, ethical, sincere) identified by the Multi-Dimensional-Measure of Trust (MDMT). We tested whether these dimensions can differentially capture gains and losses in human-robot trust across robot roles and contexts. Using a 4 scenario × 4 trust dimension × 2 change direction between-subjects design, we found the behavior change manipulation effective for each of the four subscales. However, the pattern of results best supported a two-dimensional conception of trust, with reliable-capable and ethical-sincere as the major constituents.

A semi-quantum key distribution (SQKD) protocol allows two users A and B to establish a shared secret key that is secure against an all-powerful adversary E even when one of the users (e.g., B) is semi-quantum or classical in nature while the other is fully-quantum. A mediated SQKD protocol allows two semi-quantum users to establish a key with the help of an adversarial quantum server. We introduce the concept of a multi-mediated SQKD protocol where two (or more) adversarial quantum servers are used. We construct a new protocol in this model and show how it can withstand high levels of quantum noise, though at a cost to efficiency. We perform an information theoretic security analysis and, along the way, prove a general security result applicable to arbitrary MM-SQKD protocols. Finally, a comparison is made to previous (S)QKD protocols.
