Elsevier Journal Computers & Electrical Engineering Special Issue on
Emerging Research in Internet of Things (IoT)
Theme
In the last few years, a stimulating idea has been fast emerging in the wireless scenario: the pervasive presence around us of a variety of "things" or "objects", such as terminals, devices, sensors, actuators, mobile phones, which, through unique addressing schemes, are able to interact with each other and cooperate with their neighboring "smart" components to form a smart space where users can easily enjoy a variety of services any time and in any place. This novel paradigm, named "The Internet of Things", a term encompassing the technical and cultural shift that is anticipated as society moves towards ubiquitous forms of computing in which every object is 'on' and connected in some way to the Internet. Despite the promising and beneficial prospects of such a world, however, the realization of smart space is still in its infancy and yet faces many technical challenges in architecture, protocols, applications, and security. How to implement this novel paradigm and how effective its introduction into citizens' every-day life is, still remains to be investigated. Key objectives of any R&D activity in the field are: device to device (D2D) wireless communications, efficient and effective circuit design, and full interoperability of "smart" devices.
In light of the challenge, this special issue will highlight the latest research results pertaining to smart spaces of Internet of Things. We welcome submissions from diverse fields including but not limited to wireless communication, wireless and mobile networks, mobile platforms, applications, and security.
