Visible to the public SmartAmerica Expo

SmartAmercia Expo - June 11 at the Washington DC Convention Center.

Imagine vehicles that can make their own way through a battlefield to pick up the wounded, health information that follows patients from home to hospital to doctor's office, and disaster response systems that help coordinate humans, robots and dogs. These are just a few of the potential benefits of cyber-physical systems--also sometimes referred to as the "Internet of things"--that will be demonstrated at the SmartAmerica Expo on June 11, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

The goal of the SmartAmerica Challenge is to demonstrate how cyber-physical systems and the Internet of things can boost American competitiveness and provide concrete socio-economic benefits such as job creation, new business opportunities, economic growth, and improved quality of life.

The Expo will showcase and celebrate progress made by 24 technical teams who took up the challenge to envision integrated systems of cyber and physical technologies that could improve our everyday lives. This is a great opportunity for the public and the business community to see new communications technologies and strategies in action for the first time and to be inspired to imagine additional applications and collaborations to make the Internet of things a reality. Come to see and learn about sensor enabled search dogs, rescue robots, autonomous vehicles, search and rescue UAVs, 3D printing and a pneumatic exoskeleton built by a high school student.

This will be a jam packed day of talks and demonstrations by the teams along with Keynotes by officials from the White House and other Federal government agencies. Please join us for:

* Keynote presentation by Todd Park, the United States Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the President

* Keynote presentation by Dan Tangherlini, the Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration

* Plenary presentation by the 11th grade student winner from Northern VA of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair SmartAmerica CPS Award

* Team Project Presentations - senior government officials will lead sessions on topics such as healthcare, energy, transportation, disaster response and more

* Demonstrations in the Expo area

Launched in December 2013 by two Presidential Innovation Fellows, the SmartAmerica Challenge brought about new collaborations, ideas and technologies, and led to new investments and jobs. More than 100 organizations from academia, industry and government formed 24 teams to demonstrate how cyber-physical systems--which join networks of sensors, controls and processors to create new capabilities--could improve transportation, emergency services, health care, security, resource conservation and delivery, manufacturing and more.

Please consider attending the Expo and see how Cyber-Physical Systems and IoT can benefit American society and our economy. We will have dogs, robots, UAVs - something for everyone. Invite anyone that you feel would benefit from attending and seeing the wonderful accomplishments of the teams.

Take a look at the new SmartAmerica Website and SmartAmerica Expo registration page. On the website you will find some of the articles that have come out about the work of our teams on the "News" page.
