Conclusions after IWOCPS 3.

The third International Workshop - IWOCPS 3 took place on the 29-30th of May 2014, addressing theoretical, methodological and technological aspects in the field of Cyber-Physical Systems.

Organized by the Romanian Society for Automation and Technical Informatics, together with the Science and Information Technology Division within the Romanian Academy, the IWOCPS workshop gathered specialists from different domains, including academia, research institutes, industry and specialists interested in implementing and defining the major existing problems related to Cyber-Physical Systems.
Different papers have been presented focusing on the theoretical aspects of complex systems design and control, as well as several papers focusing the applicative aspects.

Particular aspects of this type of systems have been highlighted, as well as the impact on knowledge and innovation based economy, and integration with the new industrial revolution based on this new paradigm.

The round table organized in the Romanian Academy Library highlighted the scientific and technologic importance of this new class of integrated intelligent systems, including computers, communication and control of physical processes at different space and time scales, from nano to very large systems.

In this context, integrating these systems in different fields like smart grid, transportation, automotive, healthcare systems, civil engineering, etc, the existence and the daily activity of the knowledge-based society members will change radically. Man-machine systems, as well as machine-machine systems will allow for the implementation of an intelligent communication space, with a high impact on both the science and technology evolution, and the education of the future engineer.

Taking into account the impact that the new generation of complex systems will have on economy, science and technology, it has been decided to create the National Network for Research-Development-Innovation in the field of CPS. Under the patronage of the Romanian Academy and the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, this group will coordinate the major problems in the field of research, development and implementation of CPS.

The first steps have been established in collaboration with the National Education Ministry in order to launch a national research program in the field of CPS, involving academic communities, software and communication service providers, as well as beneficiaries from different social-economical sectors.
In order to finalize such a roadmap, a meeting has been proposed in order to gather all the interested factors, including universities, research institutes, companies in the field of ICT and beneficiaries of advanced control solutions. The meeting is planned for the second half of September 2014.
