CALL FOR PAPERS AND CONTRIBUTION - ACM Transactions on Cyber-Physical Systems
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has emerged as a unifying name for systems where the cyber parts, i.e., the computing and communication parts, and the physical parts are tightly integrated, both at the design time and during operation. The integration of physical systems and processes with networked computing has led to the emergence of a new generation of engineered systems: Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Such systems use computations and communication deeply embedded in and interacting with physical processes to add new capabilities to physical systems. These cyber-physical systems range from miniscule (pace makers) to large-scale (a national power-grid). There is an emerging consensus that we need to formulate a 21st-century notion of cyber-physical systems -- systems in which computing, broadly construed, interacts with the physical world.
In the past 10 years, there are a number of academic activities to develop this emerging area. There are more than 20 CPS workshops have been held in the US alone with more around the world. The evidence is the success of the five premier conferences of the CPS week, since 2008: The ACM/IEEE International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems (ICCPS), the IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS), the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN), the ACM International Conference on High Confidence Networked Systems (HiCoNS), and the International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC). In the beginning, much of the development in CPS has been led by the US, through substantial federal CPS R&D programs involving several agencies. On the European research arena, what goes under the name CPS in the US has been found under the headings of networked monitoring and control, advanced embedded systems, system-of-systems (SoS), and Internet-of-things (IoT), including Enterprise Internet. In Horizon2020, CPS will be used as the common name for all the areas above. An European support action on CPS, namely EuCyPhy, comes at the right time to build up a cross-disciplinary European CPS community and to define a research & innovation agenda for CPS. This will be accomplished by organizing a series of CPS workshops in Europe. In Asia, even though there is no joint effort across multiple nations, the level of interest is well demonstrated by tradeshows, conferences, and funding programs.
We are happy to announce that the ACM Transactions on Cyber-Physical Systems (TCPS) is officially accepted by the ACM Publications Board with the joint effort of Tarek Abdelzaher, Giorgio C. Buttazzo, Tom Fuhrman, Anind Dey, Marco Dorigo, Shirley Dyke, Arne Hamann, C. William Hanson, Joerg Henkel, Pi-Cheng Hsiu, X. Sharon Hu, Chris Gill, Steve Goddard, Tei-Wei Kuo, Insup Lee, Chenyang Lu, Krithi Ramamritham, Aloysius K. Mok, Ai-Chun Pang, Karl-Erik Arzen, Joseph Sifakis, Sandeep K. Shukla, Zili Shao,Sang Son, Jack Stankovic, Janos Sztipanovits, Lothar Thiele, Hideyuki Tokuda, and Feng Zhao (also in the Editorial Board).
Scope of the TCPS
Although Cyber-Physical Systems cover an extremely wide range of application areas, there are strong demands to have scientific and technological understanding of the interactions of information processing, networking and physical processes. TCPS will cover the following topics:
- Computation Abstraction
- System Modeling and Language
- System Compositionality and Integration
- Design Automation and Tool Chains
- Trustworthy System Designs
- Resilient and Robust System Designs
- Human in the Loop.
The application domains covered by TCPS include, but not limited to: Healthcare, Transportation, Energy, Living Space, and Robotics.
Paper Submission Guidelines
Authors are required to prepare and submit their manuscripts electronically. TCPS publishes original research papers (in ACM Transaction style and to be announced at the TCPS official webpage) and survey papers. TCPS accepts only submissions of original technical contributions. They should not have been published in any publications nor be under consideration by another journal at the time of submission. If a paper has already been published by a refereed conference, TCPS only considers a submission that contains significant additional contributions, compared to the original material. As a supplement to its stream of regular articles, TCPS will publish special issues on selected topics, where articles can only be accepted if they meet the traditional high standards of ACM journals.
