IEEE Transactions on Computer Aided Design (TCAD) seeks original manuscripts for a special section on CAD for Cyber-Physical Systems.

The research of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) addresses the close interactions and feedback loop between the embedded cyber components for computing and control and the dynamic physical components that involve mechanical components, human activities and surrounding environment. Some example CPS systems include automotive and transportation systems, smart home, building and community, smart battery and energy systems, surveillance systems, cyber-physical biochip, and wearable devices.

The design and implementation of CPS involve the consideration of multiple aspects such as performance, energy, security, reliability, fault tolerance and flexibility. To develop optimal and reliable CPS, there is a great need for design automation methodologies, algorithms and tools, such as large scale analytical models, efficient simulation, synthesis and verification techniques, and methodologies for real-time data analytics and system control. Innovative CAD techniques addressing the unique CPS challenges, such as the fast increase of system scale and complexity, the close interactions with dynamic physical environment and human activities, the significant uncertainties in sensor readings, the employment of distributed architectural platforms, and the tight real-time constraints, are highly desirable. This special section will present the state-of-the-art research results on the topic of CAD for
CPS, and stimulate the CAD researchers to participate in the interdisciplinary CPS research in the future.

The topics of interests for this special section include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, synthesis and verification of CPS
  • CPS security and privacy
  • Big data modeling and analytics for CPS
  • Cross-layer modeling and optimization for CPS
  • Design and synthesis of new computer architectures for CPS
  • CPS fault detection and recovery
  • Sustainability in CPS
  • Applications of CPS in different fields such as
    • Automotive and transportation systems
    • Smart energy systems such as battery, home, building and grid
    • Cyber-physical biochip integration
    • Smart health
    • Surveillance and response systems

Prospective authors are invited to submit their manuscripts electronically, adhering to the submission guidelines of IEEE Transactions on CAD. Submitted articles cannot be previously published or currently submitted for journal publication elsewhere. Articles which have been previously published at a conference needs to have at least 30% new material as clarified in the cover letter of the submission.

Please submit your papers through the online system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tcad) and be sure to select the right special section.

Please note the following important dates:

  • Submission Deadline: July 4, 2015 (extended)
  • Reviews Completed:September 15, 2015
  • Major Revisions Due (if needed): November 15, 2015
  • Notification of Final Acceptance: January 15, 2016
