8th Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems (DoCEIS 2017)

May 03-05, 2017 | Caparica, Lisbon, Portugal | http://sites.uninova.pt/doceis

Technological Innovation for Smart Systems

Sponsored by:

  • SOCOLNET - Society of Collaborative Networks
  • IFIP WG 5.5
  • IEEE Industrial Electronics Society

8th Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems (DoCEIS 2017) will reflect the growing interests in research development and application of Smart Systems. Rapid evolution in Smart Sensors, Actuators, and Embedded Intelligence Technology and its seamless integration into multiple System Architecture and Platforms has revolutionized the technological world, and even the way we live, since the last decade. The pervasive nature of this technology has enabled rapid permeation into all facets and levels of engineering disciplines and has earned immense attention and focus within the academic circles and research communities worldwide. Smart Systems are undeniably, the technology of the future, with unparalleled possibilities, hence the need to further explore and exploit its prospects.

The objective of the conference is to share research findings and as well brainstorm on the endless possibilities of Smart Systems.

Key activities of the conference include:

  • Presentation of research results by PhD students (co-authored by their supervisors).
  • Tutorials by invited experts on scientific, methodological, or soft skills topics.
  • Presentation and discussion of the base ideas of the theses plans.
  • Discussion of the scientific and technical challenges in the Electrical and Computer Engineering areas.
  • Sharing of experiences among PhD students from different geographical regions.
  • Forum on practical aspects (e.g. Publications, job markets, careers, etc.).
  • Creation of collaboration (social) networks.

Prospective authors of research papers are invited to submit their manuscripts reporting original work, in any of the scientific areas of the conference. Papers describing advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged.

Following the successful previous editions, proceedings are expected to be published by Springer, IFIP AICT series (indexed in Web of Science, SCOPUS and DBLP). Best papers will be considered for possible inclusion in a special journal issue.

There will also be poster discussion sessions regarding thesis plans. These sessions are designed in order to provide early feedback to PhD candidates in the initial phase of their studies. For PhD theses recently finished (during the last year), a special type of submissions is invited.

The scope of the conference will cover, but will not be limited to, the following topics:

  • Computational and Perceptional Systems
  • Energy
  • Enterprise Collaborative Networks
  • Control and Decision
  • Electronics
  • Signal Processing
  • Smart Biotechnology
  • Informatics applied to electrical systems
  • Industry Information System
  • Telecommunications
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Robotics and Integrated Manufacturing

Important Dates:

  • 8 Dec 2016 - Full paper submission
  • 12 Jan 2017 - Author notification
  • 2 Feb 2017 - Camera Ready Submission
