The National Science Foundation established CPS-VO with the following tasks:

• Facilitate and foster interaction and exchanges among NSF CPS researchers across a broad range of institutions, programs and disciplines,
• Enable sharing of knowledge generated by the NSF CPS projects with the broader engineering and scientific communities, sharing and integrating experimental tools, platforms and simulators among researchers and stakeholders,
• Facilitate and foster collaboration and information exchange between CPS researchers and industry and
• Foster international collaboration by facilitating the establishment of shared scientific terminologies, technical standards and testing methods.
