[GCTC 2017] NIST releases a special publication on GCTC and smart cities. Action clusters win Amazon City Innovation Challenge
Dear All GCTC community members,
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a special publication on last year's Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC). This publication describes overview, history, goals and impacts of GCTC in 2014-2016. It is available for download at:
http://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.1900-01.pdf
As the special publication mentions, GCTC has recruited and incubated over 160 action clusters with participation from over 150 cities and 400 companies/organizations from around the world since its launch in 2014. We will continue to expand the scope and embrace broader range of municipal governments and technology innovators who are striving to improve the quality of life for residents and citizens.
We also have another great news. Two of the GCTC action clusters have won the Amazon City Innovation Challenge awards at the AWS Public Sector Summit held in Washington DC last week. https://aws.amazon.com/stateandlocal/cityonacloud/2017winners/
- StormSense, City of Virginia Beach, Newport News, Virginia: Best Practices Award
- Xaqt, working with Kansas City, Missouri: Partners in Innovation Award
These action clusters have made significant efforts to make our communities a better place to live in both flood prediction and urban analytics. We congratulate them on their impressive achievements. These action clusters will be showcased at the upcoming GCTC Expo in August along with many other action clusters.
The GCTC 2017 Expo in Washington DC on August 28-29 is expecting a large number of teams from the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa to demonstrate and present their accomplishments. We are also building an impressive lineup of speakers including several Mayors from around the world and senior officials from federal agencies including National Science Foundation, Department of Homeland Security, International Trade Administration, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Department of Transportation, and Department of Energy. This year's GCTC Expo will be a unique opportunity for smart city and IoT stakeholders to share their perspectives with federal/central government agencies. Stay tuned for more details.
p.s. Cities, communities, and technology innovators can still form an action cluster to speak/exhibit at the Expo. Check out the participation guide and the instruction slide deck.
