WSC TURNS 50: SIMULATION EVERYWHERE!
With 360 accepted papers, panels, special tracks, and an amazing venue, this 50th Anniversary Winter Simulation Conference promises to be a very exciting event.

This is a reminder that there are other upcoming deadlines:

Poster Track

• August 18, 2017: electronically submit 2-page extended abstracts for presentations in the Poster Session and Ph.D. Student Colloquium.
• September 15, 2017: Notification of acceptance to authors (including details about submitting slides, and formats of the posters).
• October 6, 2017: Final extended abstracts due.
• November 17, 2017: Slides for the presentation due (see guidelines in the track information)
• December 3, 2017: Bring your A0 sized poster to WSC 2017.

PhD Colloquium

• August 14 Submit 2-page extended abstracts using the WSC 2017 submission system (abstract are to be formatted according to the standard WSC 2017 authors kit.
• September 18 Notification of acceptance to authors, including details about revisions to be carried out
• October 02 Submit final version of extended abstracts
• October 23 Send presentation slides for the Ph.D. Colloquium to the Chair of the Committee in PPT or PDF version
• December 3 Bring your poster to the WSC 2017 Ph.D. Colloquium

WSC 2067: What Are The Chances?
At the November 1967 "Conference on the Applications of Simulation Using GPSS" it seems unlikely that anyone was wondering if the conference would still be occupying a big hotel in 2017. Conferences persist for many reasons, but a technical conference like WSC has to remain relevant to users, vendors, researchers and consumers (not just hotels) to survive. If our kind of simulation vanished, then so (eventually) would WSC. What is required for simulation to "remain relevant" for the next 50 years? Without fear of having to answer for my crimes in 2067, I boldly speculate on what SHOULD matter for the next 10-20 years, if not the next 50, with a focus on our strength: dealing with uncertainty.
