Can IP Mutation be Effective for Moving Target Defense: Analytical Approach ∗

Abstract

In this paper we present the framework to study the ef- fectiveness and limitation of IP mutation. We define the metrics to measure the effectiveness of IP mutation in terms of different defender and adversary parameters such as scanning speed, scanning repeat probability, size of mutation address space, and mutation speed. We also develop a flexible simulation tool to allow the user to check the effectiveness of IP mutation under adjustable parameters.
