The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks innovative and collaborative applicants to join its world class center of research excellence in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Qualified faculty will join the Link Lab (http://linklab.virginia.edu/), where over 20 faculty from multiple departments and schools collaborate on cross-cutting research. This multi-million dollar initiative is dedicated to solving the most critical problems facing society by transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries. Application areas of interest include but are not limited to autonomous systems and robotics, smart and connected health, and smart and connected cities and rural communities.

Multiple open rank, tenured, or tenure-track faculty positions and joint appointments are available across multiple departments, including:
* Civil and Environmental Engineering
* Computer Science
* Electrical and Computer Engineering
* Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
* Systems and Information Engineering

A broad range of CPS research areas will be considered, including but not limited to:
* Human-centered design for CPS; human-automation interaction
* Sensor design, including RF sensing, novel sensing devices, and application thereof
* RF and mixed-signal circuits as applied to CPS
* Machine learning and/or signal processing as applied to CPS
* Embedded and real-time systems as applied to CPS
* Communications, networking, and management to support the Internet of Things (IoT)
* Formal and model-based reasoning through all levels of CPS design and operation
* Secure, safe, and resilient CPS

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in funded research, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform service for the institution and professional organizations. Rank, tenure-status, and compensation are contingent upon experience. A PhD in science or engineering is required by the start date of appointment. A commitment to teaching and advising excellence and evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups are essential. Candidates must have a record of excellence in research, as appropriate for the candidate's rank, with a preference for transdisciplinary research experience. Appointment with tenure requires documented excellence in research and teaching, and an emerging national reputation. Preference will be given to candidates whose research would complement or expand the School's current strengths (http://engineering.virginia.edu/research). Applicants with a respect for diversity and a passion for making a positive impact on the world in a collaborative environment are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply, visit http://jobs.virginia.edu and search on Posting Number 0622128. Complete a Candidate Profile online; attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for at least three references. Applicant screening begins December 11, 2017, and the positions remain open to applicants until filled.
