Postdoc position in Cancer Decision Support System Design at University of Oslo, Norway
Vacant Postdoc position in Cancer Decision Support System Design at University of Oslo, Norway
The position is affiliated to the Robotics and Intelligent Systems group at the University of Oslo, Norway http://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/english/research/groups/robin in collaboration with the Digital Signal Processing and Image Analysis Group.
The fellowships are funded by the project DoMore!:In silico Pathology (that is, identification of tumor regions in tissue sections and assessing how abnormal the tumor tissue is based on microscopy images) - Improving diagnosis by utilizing Big Data and software-driven automation of pathology. The project aims at radically improving prognostication and hence treatment of cancer by using digital tools for pathology. DoMore! is based on a collaboration between the Institute of Cancer Genetics and Informatics at Oslo University Hospital and the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo, and is funded by The Research Council of Norway as one of the council's three "ICT lighthouse projects". The goal of the Postdoc project is to develop a clinical decision support framework using prognostic markers extracted during tumor analysis.
The fellowship will be for a period of two years. The starting date is as soon as possible and no later than 01.10.2018. The candidate will collaborate with a number of other researchers in the project. The University of Oslo is Norway's oldest and highest rated institution of research and education with 28 000 students and 7000 employees.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in computer science including machine learning/artificial intelligence (other degrees would be considered if qualifications match). Thus, applicants should have a strong background in programming and machine learning/artificial intelligence including stochastic optimization with evolutionary computation or Bayesian optimization. Previous experience in working with medical or biological images and data is also an advantage. A number of partners are involved in the project so collaboration skills would also be assessed.
