Postdoc position on Architecting critical infrastructures for cyber-physical systems.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoc for cutting-edge research at KTH, in close collaboration with industry. Future industrial systems, such as in transport or manufacturing, will increasingly consist of connected and collaborating smart machines that interact with and are support by digitalized infrastructure. This digitalized infrastructure will thus be part of the system as a whole, and thus has to be trustworthy, i.e. safe, secure and available.

KTH and industry partners will be developing architectures as well as architecting methods for trustworthy infrastructures with relevance for multiple industrial domains. Specific concerns of interest include trade-offs between safety, security and availability, and run-time monitoring and supervision capabilities enabling to deal safety and security related problems during run-time.

The work primarily concerns collaborative research as well as project coordination together with other senior KTH researchers. The research encompasses problem analysis, architecture and methhod development, evaluation as well as contributions to demonstrator development. The research is expected to lead to results that are both scientifically and industrially relevant.

The project gathers a multidisciplinary team covering industrial best practices (including in manufacturing, telecom and transportation) with competence in systems engineering, software technology, control, and networked systems, and with specific expertise in safety, security and resilience, aiming for an integrated approach.

Qualifications

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • A recent PhD in an area related to the project, e.g. in software or systems engineering, computer science, distributed computer systems, or electrical engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quality research (e.g. through papers and patents)
  • A strong interest in the understanding of multiple properties of a system
  • Programming and/or modeling and simulation skills
  • English communication skills

You preferably have a background and documented competence in more than one of the described areas, e.g. concerning trustworthiness properties and/or academic disciplines.

Other desired qualifications

The following additional documented qualifications and experiences are highly desired:

  • industrial system development, for example in the automotive, manufacturing or telecom domains, or other corresponding role(s)
  • development/maintenance/support of IT-systems, distributed computer systems and/or distributed computer control systems
  • documented experience from project coordination and project management
