The widespread application of 5G will make intrusion detection of large-scale network traffic a mere need. However, traditional intrusion detection cannot meet the requirements by manually extracting features, and the existing AI methods are also relatively inefficient. Therefore, when performing intrusion detection tasks, they have significant disadvantages of high false alarm rates and low recognition performance. For this challenge, this paper proposes a novel hybrid network, RULA-IDS, which can perform intrusion detection tasks by great amount statistical data from the network monitoring system. RULA-IDS consists of the fully connected layer, the feature extraction layer, the global attention mechanism layer and the SVM classification layer. In the feature extraction layer, the residual U-Net and LSTM are used to extract the spatial and temporal features of the network traffic attributes. It is worth noting that we modified the structure of U-Net to suit the intrusion detection task. The global attention mechanism layer is then used to selectively retain important information from a large number of features and focus on those. Finally, the SVM is used as a classifier to output results. The experimental results show that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art intrusion detection methods, and the accuracies of training and testing are improved to 97.01% and 98.19%, respectively, and presents stronger robustness during training and testing.

Zhu, L., Chen, C., Su, Z., Chen, W., Li, T., Yu, Z..  2020.  BBS: Micro-Architecture Benchmarking Blockchain Systems through Machine Learning and Fuzzy Set. 2020 IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Computer Architecture (HPCA). :411–423.
Due to the decentralization, irreversibility, and traceability, blockchain has attracted significant attention and has been deployed in many critical industries such as banking and logistics. However, the micro-architecture characteristics of blockchain programs still remain unclear. What's worse, the large number of micro-architecture events make understanding the characteristics extremely difficult. We even lack a systematic approach to identify the important events to focus on. In this paper, we propose a novel benchmarking methodology dubbed BBS to characterize blockchain programs at micro-architecture level. The key is to leverage fuzzy set theory to identify important micro-architecture events after the significance of them is quantified by a machine learning based approach. The important events for single programs are employed to characterize the programs while the common important events for multiple programs form an importance vector which is used to measure the similarity between benchmarks. We leverage BBS to characterize seven and six benchmarks from Blockbench and Caliper, respectively. The results show that BBS can reveal interesting findings. Moreover, by leveraging the importance characterization results, we improve that the transaction throughput of Smallbank from Fabric by 70% while reduce the transaction latency by 55%. In addition, we find that three of seven and two of six benchmarks from Blockbench and Caliper are redundant, respectively.

Chen, W., Liang, X., Li, J., Qin, H., Mu, Y., Wang, J..  2018.  Blockchain Based Provenance Sharing of Scientific Workflows. 2018 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (Big Data). :3814–3820.
In a research community, the provenance sharing of scientific workflows can enhance distributed research cooperation, experiment reproducibility verification and experiment repeatedly doing. Considering that scientists in such a community are often in a loose relation and distributed geographically, traditional centralized provenance sharing architectures have shown their disadvantages in poor trustworthiness, reliabilities and efficiency. Additionally, they are also difficult to protect the rights and interests of data providers. All these have been largely hindering the willings of distributed scientists to share their workflow provenance. Considering the big advantages of blockchain in decentralization, trustworthiness and high reliability, an approach to sharing scientific workflow provenance based on blockchain in a research community is proposed. To make the approach more practical, provenance is handled on-chain and original data is delivered off-chain. A kind of block structure to support efficient provenance storing and retrieving is designed, and an algorithm for scientists to search workflow segments from provenance as well as an algorithm for experiments backtracking are provided to enhance the experiment result sharing, save computing resource and time cost by avoiding repeated experiments as far as possible. Analyses show that the approach is efficient and effective.

Edge detection is one of the most important topics of image processing. In the scenario of cloud computing, performing edge detection may also consider privacy protection. In this paper, we propose an edge detection and image segmentation scheme on an encrypted image with Sobel edge detector. We implement Gaussian filtering and Sobel operator on the image in the encrypted domain with homomorphic property. By implementing an adaptive threshold decision algorithm in the encrypted domain, we obtain a threshold determined by the image distribution. With the technique of garbled circuit, we perform comparison in the encrypted domain and obtain the edge of the image without decrypting the image in advanced. We then propose an image segmentation scheme on the encrypted image based on the detected edges. Our experiments demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of the proposed encrypted image edge detection and segmentation.

Chen, Y., Chen, W..  2017.  Finger ECG-Based Authentication for Healthcare Data Security Using Artificial Neural Network. 2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on E-Health Networking, Applications and Services (Healthcom). :1–6.

Wearable and mobile medical devices provide efficient, comfortable, and economic health monitoring, having a wide range of applications from daily to clinical scenarios. Health data security becomes a critically important issue. Electrocardiogram (ECG) has proven to be a potential biometric in human recognition over the past decade. Unlike conventional authentication methods using passwords, fingerprints, face, etc., ECG signal can not be simply intercepted, duplicated, and enables continuous identification. However, in many of the studies, algorithms developed are not suitable for practical application, which usually require long ECG data for authentication. In this work, we introduce a two-phase authentication using artificial neural network (NN) models. This algorithm enables fast authentication within only 3 seconds, meanwhile achieves reasonable performance in recognition. We test the proposed method in a controlled laboratory experiment with 50 subjects. Finger ECG signals are collected using a mobile device at different times and physical statues. At the first stage, a ``General'' NN model is constructed based on data from the cohort and used for preliminary screening, while at the second stage ``Personal'' NN models constructed from single individual's data are applied as fine-grained identification. The algorithm is tested on the whole data set, and on different sizes of subsets (5, 10, 20, 30, and 40). Results proved that the proposed method is feasible and reliable for individual authentication, having obtained average False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR) below 10% for the whole data set.

Shen, Y., Chen, W., Wang, J..  2017.  Distributed Self-Healing for Mobile Robot Networks with Multiple Robot Failures. 2017 Chinese Automation Congress (CAC). :5939–5944.

In the multi-robot applications, the maintained and desired network may be destroyed by failed robots. The existing self-healing algorithms only handle with the case of single robot failure, however, multiple robot failures may cause several challenges, such as disconnected network and conflicts among repair paths. This paper presents a distributed self-healing algorithm based on 2-hop neighbor infomation to resolve the problems caused by multiple robot failures. Simulations and experiment show that the proposed algorithm manages to restore connectivity of the mobile robot network and improves the synchronization of the network globally, which validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in resolving multiple robot failures.

Chen, W., Hong, L., Shetty, S., Lo, D., Cooper, R..  2016.  Cross-Layered Security Approach with Compromised Nodes Detection in Cooperative Sensor Networks. 2016 IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium Workshops (IPDPSW). :499–508.

Cooperative MIMO communication is a promising technology which enables realistic solution for improving communication performance with MIMO technique in wireless networks that are composed of size and cost constrained devices. However, the security problems inherent to cooperative communication also arise. Cryptography can ensure the confidentiality in the communication and routing between authorized participants, but it usually cannot prevent the attacks from compromised nodes which may corrupt communications by sending garbled signals. In this paper, we propose a cross-layered approach to enhance the security in query-based cooperative MIMO sensor networks. The approach combines efficient cryptographic technique implemented in upper layer with a novel information theory based compromised nodes detection algorithm in physical layer. In the detection algorithm, a cluster of K cooperative nodes are used to identify up to K - 1 active compromised nodes. When the compromised nodes are detected, the key revocation is performed to isolate the compromised nodes and reconfigure the cooperative MIMO sensor network. During this process, beamforming is used to avoid the information leaking. The proposed security scheme can be easily modified and applied to cognitive radio networks. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm for compromised nodes detection is effective and efficient, and the accuracy of received information is significantly improved.
