Hasan, Darwito, Haryadi Amran, Sudarsono, Amang.  2022.  Environmental Condition Monitoring and Decision Making System Using Fuzzy Logic Method. 2022 International Electronics Symposium (IES). :267—271.

Currently, air pollution is still a problem that requires special attention, especially in big cities. Air pollution can come from motor vehicle fumes, factory smoke or other particles. To overcome these problems, a system is made that can monitor environmental conditions in order to know the good and bad of air quality in an environment and is expected to be a solution to reduce air pollution that occurs. The system created will utilize the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) combined with Waspmote Smart Environment PRO, so that later data will be obtained in the form of temperature, humidity, CO levels and CO2 levels. From the sensor data that has been processed on Waspmote, it will then be used as input for data processing using a fuzzy algorithm. The classification obtained from sensor data processing using fuzzy to monitor environmental conditions there are 5 classifications, namely Very Good, Good, Average, Bad and Dangerous. Later the data that has been collected will be distributed to Meshlium as a gateway and will be stored in the database. The process of sending information between one party to another needs to pay attention to the confidentiality of data and information. The final result of the implementation of this research is that the system is able to classify values using fuzzy algorithms and is able to secure text data that will be sent to the database via Meshlium, and is able to display data sent to the website in real time.

Healthcare sectors such as hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices, and hospice homes encountered several obstacles due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Wearing a mask, social distancing and sanitization are some of the most effective methods that have been proven to be essential to minimize the virus spread. Lately, medical executives have been appointed to monitor the virus spread and encourage the individuals to follow cautious instructions that have been provided to them. To solve the aforementioned challenges, this research study proposes an autonomous medical assistance robot. The proposed autonomous robot is completely service-based, which helps to monitor whether or not people are wearing a mask while entering any health care facility and sanitizes the people after sending a warning to wear a mask by using the image processing and computer vision technique. The robot not only monitors but also promotes social distancing by giving precautionary warnings to the people in healthcare facilities. The robot can assist the health care officials carrying the necessities of the patent while following them for maintaining a touchless environment. With thorough simulative testing and experiments, results have been finally validated.

Rafique, Wajid, Hafid, Abdelhakim Senhaji, Cherkaoui, Soumaya.  2022.  Complementing IoT Services Using Software-Defined Information Centric Networks: A Comprehensive Survey. IEEE Internet of Things Journal. 9:23545–23569.
IoT connects a large number of physical objects with the Internet that capture and exchange real-time information for service provisioning. Traditional network management schemes face challenges to manage vast amounts of network traffic generated by IoT services. Software-defined networking (SDN) and information-centric networking (ICN) are two complementary technologies that could be integrated to solve the challenges of different aspects of IoT service provisioning. ICN offers a clean-slate design to accommodate continuously increasing network traffic by considering content as a network primitive. It provides a novel solution for information propagation and delivery for large-scale IoT services. On the other hand, SDN allocates overall network management responsibilities to a central controller, where network elements act merely as traffic forwarding components. An SDN-enabled network supports ICN without deploying ICN-capable hardware. Therefore, the integration of SDN and ICN provides benefits for large-scale IoT services. This article provides a comprehensive survey on software-defined information-centric Internet of Things (SDIC-IoT) for IoT service provisioning. We present critical enabling technologies of SDIC-IoT, discuss its architecture, and describe its benefits for IoT service provisioning. We elaborate on key IoT service provisioning requirements and discuss how SDIC-IoT supports different aspects of IoT services. We define different taxonomies of SDIC-IoT literature based on various performance parameters. Furthermore, we extensively discuss different use cases, synergies, and advances to realize the SDIC-IoT concept. Finally, we present current challenges and future research directions of IoT service provisioning using SDIC-IoT.

In this paper, a novel composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH TL) 3-unit cell is presented for finding excellent time-delay (TD) efficiency of Chipless RFID's True-Time-Delay Lines (TTDLs). RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a non-contact automatic identification technology that uses radio frequency (RF) signals to identify target items automatically and retrieve pertinent data without the need for human participation. However, as compared to barcodes, RFID tags are prohibitively expensive and complex to manufacture. Chipless RFID tags are RFID tags that do not contain silicon chips and are therefore less expensive and easier to manufacture. It combines radio broadcasting technology with radar technology. Radio broadcasting technology use radio waves to send and receive voice, pictures, numbers, and symbols, whereas radar technology employs the radio wave reflection theory. Chipless RFID lowers the cost of sensors such as gas, temperature, humidity, and pressure. In addition, Chipless RFID tags can be used as sensors which are also required for security purposes and future IoT applications.

In recent years, body-worn RFID and NFC (near field communication) devices have become one of the principal technologies concurring to the rise of healthcare internet of thing (H-IoT) systems. Similarly, points of care (PoCs) moved increasingly closer to patients to reduce the costs while supporting precision medicine and improving chronic illness management, thanks to timely and frequent feedback from the patients themselves. A typical PoC involves medical sensing devices capable of sampling human health, personal equipment with communications and computing capabilities (smartphone or tablet) and a secure software environment for data transmission to medical centers. Hybrid platforms simultaneously employing NFC and ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID could be successfully developed for the first sensing layer. An application example of the proposed hybrid system for the monitoring of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) survivors details how the combined use of NFC and UHF-RFID in the same PoC can support the multifaceted need of AMI survivors while protecting the sensitive data on the patient’s health.
Savoie, Marc, Shan, Jinjun.  2022.  Monte Carlo Study of Jiles-Atherton Parameters on Hysteresis Area and Remnant Displacement. 2022 IEEE 31st International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE). :1017–1022.
In this study, the parameters of the Jiles-Atherton (JA) model are investigated to determine suitable solution candidates for hysteresis models of a piezoelectric actuator (PEA). The methodology of this study is to perform Monte Carlo experiments on the JA model by randomly selecting parameters that generate hysteresis curves. The solution space is then restrained such that their normalized area and remnant displacements are comparable to those of the PEA. The data resulting from these Monte Carlo simulations show trends in the parameter space that can be used to further restrain parameter selection windows to find suitable JA parameters to model PEAs. In particular, the results show that selection of the reversibility coefficient and the pinning factor strongly affect both of the hysteresis characteristics studied. A large density of solutions is found in certain parameter distributions for both the area and the remnant displacement, but the remnant displacement generates the densest distributions. These results can be used to more effectively find suitable hysteresis models for modeling purposes.

Wireless embedded devices are key elements of Internet-of-Things (IoT) and industrial IoT (IIoT) applications. The complexity of these devices as well as the number of connected devices to networks increase steadily. The high intricacy of the overall system makes it error-prone and vulnerable to attacks and leads to the need to test individual parts or even the whole system. Therefore, this paper presents the concept of a flexible and distributed testbed to evaluate correct behavior in various operation or attack scenarios. It is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS) as communication framework to ensure modularity and expandability. The testbed integrates RF-jamming and measurement devices to evaluate remote attack scenarios and interference issues. An energy harvesting emulation cell is used to evaluate different real-world energy harvesting scenarios. A climatic test chamber allows to investigate the influence of temperature and humidity conditions on the system-under-test. As a testbed application scenario, the automated evaluation of an energy harvesting wireless sensor network designed to instrument automotive engine test benches is presented.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has caused huge losses worldwide and is still affecting people all around the world. Even after rigorous, incessant and dedicated efforts from people all around the world, it keeps mutating and spreading at an alarming rate. In times such as these, it is extremely important to take proper precautionary measures to stay safe and help to contain the spread of the virus. In this paper, we propose an innovative design of one such commonly used public disinfection method, an Automatic Walkthrough Sanitization Tunnel. It is a walkthrough sanitization tunnel which uses sensors to detect the target and automatically disinfects it followed by irradiation using UV-C rays for extra protection. There is a proposition to add an IoT based Temperature sensor and data relay module used to detect the temperature of any person entering the tunnel and in case of any anomaly, contact nearby covid wards to facilitate rapid treatment.

Elbahadır, Hamza, Erdem, Ebubekir.  2021.  Modeling Intrusion Detection System Using Machine Learning Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks. 2021 6th International Conference on Computer Science and Engineering (UBMK). :401–406.
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are used to perceive many data such as temperature, vibration, pressure in the environment and to produce results; it is widely used, including in critical fields such as military, intelligence and health. However, because of WSNs have different infrastructure and architecture than traditional networks, different security measures must be taken. In this study, an intrusion detection system (IDS) is modeled to ensure WSN security. Since the signature, misuse and anomaly based detection methods for intrusion detection systems are insufficient to provide security alone, a hybrid model is proposed in which these methods are used together. In the hybrid model, anomaly rules were defined for attack detection, and machine learning algorithms BayesNet, J48 and Random Forest were used to classify normal and abnormal traffic. Unlike the studies in the literature, CSE-CIC-IDS2018, the most up-to-date data set, was used to create attack profiles. Considering both hardware constraints and battery capacities of WSNs; the data was pre-processed in accordance with data mining principles. The results showed that the developed model has high accuracy and low false alarm rate.

This work examines volatile memory modules as ephemeral key storage for security applications in the context of low temperatures. In particular, we note that such memories exhibit a rising level of data remanence as the temperature decreases, especially for temperatures below 280 Kelvin. Therefore, these memories cannot be used to protect the superconducting modules found in high-speed Magnetic Levitation (MagLev) trains, as such modules most often require extremely low temperatures in order to provide superconducting applications. Thus, a novel secure storage solution is required in this case, especially within the oncoming framework concept of the internet of railway things, which is partially based on the increasing utilisation of commercial off-the-shelf components and potential economies of scale, in order to achieve cost efficiency and, thus, widespread adoption. Nevertheless, we do note that volatile memory modules can be utilised as intrinsic temperature sensors, especially at low temperatures, as the data remanence they exhibit at low temperatures is highly dependent on the ambient temperature, and can, therefore, be used to distinguish between different temperature levels.

Onibonoje, Moses Oluwafemi.  2021.  IoT-Based Synergistic Approach for Poultry Management System. 2021 IEEE International IOT, Electronics and Mechatronics Conference (IEMTRONICS). :1—5.
Poultry farming has contributed immensely to global food security and the economy. Its produces are favourites and hugely subscribed, due to the uniqueness of their nutrients to all categories of people and the alternatives they provide to other high-cholesterol proteins. The increase in the world's population will continuously stretch for an increase in demands for poultry products. A smart way to ensure continuous production and increased yields in various farms is to adopt automated and remote management of poultries. This paper modelled and developed a collaborative system using the synergistic wireless sensor network technology and the internet of things. The system integrated resourcefully selected wireless sensors, mobile phone, other autonomous devices and the internet to remotely monitor and control environmental parameters and activities within the farm. Parameters such as temperature, humidity, water level, food valve level, ammonia gas, illumination are sensed, benchmarked against selected thresholds, and communicated wirelessly to the sink node and the internet cloud. The required control actions can also be initiated remotely by the administrator through messages or command signal. Also, the various parameters and actions can be read or documented in real-time over the web. The system was tested and evaluated to give an average of about 93.7% accuracy in parameters detection and 2s delay in real-time response. Therefore, a modelled system has been developed to provide robust and more intuitive solutions in poultry farming.

A non-predicted and transient malfunctioning of one or multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is something that may happen over a course of their deployment. Therefore, it is very important to have means to detect these events and take actions for ensuring a high level of reliability, security, and safety of the flight for the predefined mission. In this research, we propose algorithms aiming at the detection and isolation of any faulty UAV so that the performance of the UAVs application is kept at its highest level. To this end, we propose the use of Kullback-Leiler Divergence (KLD) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to build algorithms that detect and isolate any faulty UAV. The proposed methods are declined in these two directions: (1) we compute a difference between the internal and external data, use KLD to compute dissimilarities, and detect the UAV that transmits erroneous measurements. (2) Then, we identify the faulty UAV using an ANN model to classify the sensed data using the internal sensed data. The proposed approaches are validated using a real dataset, provided by the Air Lab Failure and Anomaly (ALFA) for UAV fault detection research, and show promising performance.

With an incredible growth in MEMS and Internet, IoT has developed to an inevitable invention and resource for human needs. IoT reframes the communication and created a new way of machine to machine communication. IoT utilizes smart sensor to monitor and track environmental changes in any area of interest. The high volume of sensed information is processed, formulated and presented to the user for decision making. In this paper a model is designed to perform trust evaluation and data aggregation with confidential transmission of secured information in to the network and enables higher secure and reliable data transmission for effective analysis and decision making. The Sensors in IoT devices, senses the same information and forwards redundant data in to the network. This results in higher network congestion and causes transmission overhead. This could be control by introducing data aggregation. A gateway sensor node can act as aggregator and a forward unique information to the base station. However, when the network is adulterated with malicious node, these malicious nodes tend to injects false data in to the network. In this paper, a trust based malicious node detection technique has been introduced to isolate the malicious node from forwarding false information into the network. Simulation results proves the proposed protocol can be used to reduce malicious attack with increased throughput and performance.

Chemical sensing is an important issue in food, water, environment, biomedical, and pharmaceutical field. Conventional methods used in laboratory for sensing the chemical are costly, time consuming, and sometimes wastes significant amount of sample. Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) offers high compactness and design flexibility and it can be used as biosensor, chemical sensor, liquid sensor, temperature sensor, mechanical sensor, gas sensor, and so on. In this work, we designed PCF to sense different concentrations of different liquids by one PCF structure. We designed different structure for silica cladding hexagonal PCF to sense different concentrations of benzene-toluene and ethanol-water mixer. Core diameter, air hole diameter, and air hole diameter to lattice pitch ratio are varied to get the optimal result as well to explore the effect of core size, air hole size and the pitch on liquid chemical sensing. Performance of the chemical sensors was examined based on confinement loss and sensitivity. The performance of the sensor varied a lot and basically it depends not only on refractive index of the liquid but also on sensing wavelengths. Our designed sensor can provide comparatively high sensitivity and low confinement loss.

An open source and low-cost Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System based on Node-RED and Arduino microcontrollers is presented in this paper. The system is designed for monitoring, supervision, and remotely controlling motors and sensors deployed for oil and gas facilities. The Internet of Things (IoT) based SCADA system consists of a host computer on which a server is deployed using the Node-RED programming tool and two terminal units connected to it: Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega. The Arduino Uno collects and communicates the data acquired from the temperature, flowrate, and water level sensors to the Node-Red on the computer through the serial port. It also uses a local liquid crystal display (LCD) to display the temperature. Node-RED on the computer retrieves the data from the voltage, current, rotary, accelerometer, and distance sensors through the Arduino Mega. Also, a web-based graphical user interface (GUI) is created using Node-RED and hosted on the local server for parsing the collected data. Finally, an HTTP basic access authentication is implemented using Nginx to control the clients' access from the Internet to the local server and to enhance its security and reliability.

Although it has been demonstrated in multiple studies that serious data leaks could occur to many-core systems thanks to the existence of the thermal covert channels (TCC), little has been done to produce effective countermeasures that are necessary to fight against such TCC attacks. In this paper, we propose a three-step countermeasure to address this critical defense issue. Specifically, the countermeasure includes detection based on signal frequency scanning, positioning affected cores, and blocking based on Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) technique. Our experiments have confirmed that on average 98% of the TCC attacks can be detected, and with the proposed defense, the bit error rate of a TCC attack can soar to 92%, literally shutting down the attack in practical terms. The performance penalty caused by the inclusion of the proposed countermeasures is only 3% for an 8×8 system.

Leff, D., Maskay, A., Cunha, M. P. da.  2020.  Wireless Interrogation of High Temperature Surface Acoustic Wave Dynamic Strain Sensor. 2020 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS). :1–4.
Dynamic strain sensing is necessary for high-temperature harsh-environment applications, including powerplants, oil wells, aerospace, and metal manufacturing. Monitoring dynamic strain is important for structural health monitoring and condition-based maintenance in order to guarantee safety, increase process efficiency, and reduce operation and maintenance costs. Sensing in high-temperature (HT), harsh-environments (HE) comes with challenges including mounting and packaging, sensor stability, and data acquisition and processing. Wireless sensor operation at HT is desirable because it reduces the complexity of the sensor connection, increases reliability, and reduces costs. Surface acoustic wave resonators (SAWRs) are compact, can operate wirelessly and battery-free, and have been shown to operate above 1000°C, making them a potential option for HT HE dynamic strain sensing. This paper presents wirelessly interrogated SAWR dynamic strain sensors operating around 288.8MHz at room temperature and tested up to 400°C. The SAWRs were calibrated with a high-temperature wired commercial strain gauge. The sensors were mounted onto a tapered-type Inconel constant stress beam and the assembly was tested inside a box furnace. The SAWR sensitivity to dynamic strain excitation at 25°C, 100°C, and 400°C was .439 μV/με, 0.363μV/με, and .136 μV/με, respectively. The experimental outcomes verified that inductive coupled wirelessly interrogated SAWRs can be successfully used for dynamic strain sensing up to 400°C.

The popularity and demand of home automation has increased exponentially in recent years because of the ease it provides. Recently, development has been done in this domain and few systems have been proposed that either use voice assistants or application for controlling the electrical appliances. However; less emphasis is laid on power efficiency and this system cannot be integrated with the existing appliances and hence, the entire system needs to be upgraded adding to a lot of additional cost in purchasing new appliances. In this research, the objective is to design such a system that emphasises on power efficiency as well as can be integrated with the already existing appliances. NodeMCU, along with Raspberry Pi, Firebase realtime database, is used to create a system that accomplishes such endeavours and can control relays, which can control these appliances without the need of replacing them. The experiments in this paper demonstrate triggering of electrical appliances using voice assistant, fire alarm on the basis of flame sensor and temperature sensor. Moreover; use of android application was presented for operating electrical appliances from a remote location. Lastly, the system can be modified by adding security cameras, smart blinds, robot vacuums etc.

Trust of image sensor data is becoming increasingly important as the Internet of Things (IoT) applications grow from home appliances to surveillance. Up to our knowledge, there exists only one work in literature that estimates trustworthiness of digital images applied to forensic applications, based on a machine learning technique. The efficacy of this technique is heavily dependent on availability of an appropriate training set and adequate variation of IoT sensor data with noise, interference and environmental condition, but availability of such data cannot be assured always. Therefore, to overcome this limitation, a robust method capable of estimating trustworthy measure with high accuracy is needed. Lowering cost of sensors allow many IoT applications to use multiple types of sensors to observe the same event. In such cases, complementary multimodal data of one sensor can be exploited to measure trust level of another sensor data. In this paper, for the first time, we introduce a completely new approach to estimate the trustworthiness of an image sensor data using another sensor's numerical data. We develop a theoretical model using the Dempster-Shafer theory (DST) framework. The efficacy of the proposed model in estimating trust level of an image sensor data is analyzed by observing a fire event using IoT image and temperature sensor data in a residential setup under different scenarios. The proposed model produces highly accurate trust level in all scenarios with authentic and forged image data.

Beran, P., Klöhn, M., Hohe, H..  2019.  Measurement Characteristics of Different Integrated Three-Dimensional Magnetic Field Sensors. IEEE Magnetics Letters. 10:1–5.
Datasheets of different commercially available integrated sensors for vector measurements of magnetic fields provide typical specifications, such as measurement range, sampling rate, resolution, and noise. Other characteristics of interest, such as linearity, cross-sensitivity, remanent magnetization, and drifts over temperature, are mostly missing. This letter presents testing results of those characteristics of integrated three-dimensional (3-D) sensors working with different sensor principles and technologies in a reproducible measuring process. The sensors are exposed to temperatures from -20 °C to 80 °C and are cycled in hysteresis loops in fields up to 2.5 mT. For applying high-accuracy magnetic fields, a calibrated 3-D Helmholtz coil setup is used. Commercially available integrated 3-D magnetic field sensors are put in operation on a printed circuit board using nonmagnetic passive components. All sensors are configured for best measurement accuracy according to their data-sheets. The results show that sensors based on anisotropic magnetoresistance have high accuracy and low offsets yet also a high degree of nonlinearity. Hall-based sensors show good linearity but also high cross-sensitivity. A magnetic remanence appears for Hall-based sensors with integrated magnetic concentrators as well as for sensors using anisotropic magnetoresistance. Nearly all sensors show remaining drifts over temperature regarding offset and sensitivity up to several percentages.

Ponomarev, Kirill Yu..  2019.  Attribute-Based Access Control in Service Mesh. 2019 Dynamics of Systems, Mechanisms and Machines (Dynamics). :1–4.
Modern cloud applications can consist of hundreds of services with thousands of instances. In order to solve the problems of interservice interaction in this highly dynamic environment, an additional software infrastructure layer called service mesh is introduced. This layer provides a single point of interaction with the network for each service. Service mesh mechanisms are responsible for: load balancing, processing of network requests, service discovery, authentication, authorization, etc. However, the following questions arise: complex key management, fine-grained access control at the application level, confidentiality of data and many-to-many communications. It is possible to solve these problems with Attribute-based encryption (ABE) methods. This paper presents an abstract model of a service mesh and a protocol for interservice communications, which uses ABE for authorization and confidentiality of the messages.
