The fourth industrial revolution has led to the rapid development of industrial control systems. While the large number of industrial system devices connected to the Internet provides convenience for production management, it also exposes industrial control systems to more attack surfaces. Under the influence of multiple attack surfaces, sensitive data leakage has a more serious and time-spanning negative impact on industrial production systems. How to quickly locate the source of information leakage plays a crucial role in reducing the loss from the attack, so there are new requirements for tracing sensitive data in industrial control information systems. In this paper, we propose a digital watermarking traceability scheme for sensitive data in industrial control systems to address the above problems. In this scheme, we enhance the granularity of traceability by classifying sensitive data types of industrial control systems into text, image and video data with differentiated processing, and achieve accurate positioning of data sources by combining technologies such as national secret asymmetric encryption and hash message authentication codes, and mitigate the impact of mainstream watermarking technologies such as obfuscation attacks and copy attacks on sensitive data. It also mitigates the attacks against the watermarking traceability such as obfuscation attacks and copy attacks. At the same time, this scheme designs a data flow watermark monitoring module on the post-node of the data source to monitor the unauthorized sensitive data access behavior caused by other attacks.

Song, Yuning, Ding, Liping, Liu, Xuehua, Du, Mo.  2022.  Differential Privacy Protection Algorithm Based on Zero Trust Architecture for Industrial Internet. 2022 IEEE 4th International Conference on Power, Intelligent Computing and Systems (ICPICS). :917–920.
The Zero Trust Architecture is an important part of the industrial Internet security protection standard. When analyzing industrial data for enterprise-level or industry-level applications, differential privacy (DP) is an important technology for protecting user privacy. However, the centralized and local DP used widely nowadays are only applicable to the networks with fixed trust relationship and cannot cope with the dynamic security boundaries in Zero Trust Architecture. In this paper, we design a differential privacy scheme that can be applied to Zero Trust Architecture. It has a consistent privacy representation and the same noise mechanism in centralized and local DP scenarios, and can balance the strength of privacy protection and the flexibility of privacy mechanisms. We verify the algorithm in the experiment, that using maximum expectation estimation method it is able to obtain equal or even better result of the utility with the same level of security as traditional methods.

The industrial Internet has built a new industrial manufacturing and service system with all elements, all industrial chains and all value chains connected through the interconnection of people, machines and things. It breaks the relatively closed and credible production environment of traditional industry. But at the same time, the full interconnection of cross-device, cross-system, and cross-region in the industrial Internet also brings a certain network trust crisis. The method proposed in this paper breaking the relatively closed manufacturing environment of traditional industries, extends the network connection object from human to machine equipment, industrial products and industrial services. It provides a safe and credible environment for the development of industrial Internet, and a trust guarantee for the across enterprises entities and data sharing.

Industrial Internet is widely used in the production field. As the openness of networks increases, industrial networks facing increasing security risks. Information and communication technologies are now available for most industrial manufacturing. This industry-oriented evolution has driven the emergence of cloud systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Industry 4.0. However, new technologies are always accompanied by security vulnerabilities, which often expose unpredictable risks. Industrial safety has become one of the most essential and challenging requirements. In this article, we highlight the serious challenges facing Industry 4.0, introduce industrial security issues and present the current awareness of security within the industry. In this paper, we propose solutions for the anomaly detection and defense of the industrial Internet based on the demand characteristics of network security, the main types of intrusions and their vulnerability characteristics. The main work is as follows: This paper first analyzes the basic network security issues, including the network security needs, the security threats and the solutions. Secondly, the security requirements of the industrial Internet are analyzed with the characteristics of industrial sites. Then, the threats and attacks on the network are analyzed, i.e., system-related threats and process-related threats; finally, the current research status is introduced from the perspective of network protection, and the research angle of this paper, i.e., network anomaly detection and network defense, is proposed in conjunction with relevant standards. This paper proposes a software-defined network (SDN)-based industrial Internet security gateway for the security protection of the industrial Internet. Since there are some known types of attacks in the industrial network, in order to fully exploit the effective information, we combine the ExtratreesClassifier to enhance the detection rate of anomaly detection. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, this paper simulates an industrial network attack, using the acquired training data for testing. The test data are industrial network traffic datasets, and the experimental results show that the algorithm is suitable for anomaly detection in industrial networks.

Cai, Junhui, Li, Qianmu.  2020.  Machine Learning-Based Threat Identification of Industrial Internet. 2020 IEEE International Conference on Progress in Informatics and Computing (PIC). :335–340.
In order to improve production and management efficiency, traditional industrial control systems are gradually connected to the Internet, and more likely to use advanced modern information technologies, such as cloud computing, big data technology, and artificial intelligence. Industrial control system is widely used in national key infrastructure. Meanwhile, a variety of attack threats and risks follow, and once the industrial control network suffers maliciously attack, the loss caused is immeasurable. In order to improve the security and stability of the industrial Internet, this paper studies the industrial control network traffic threat identification technology based on machine learning methods, including GK-SVDD, RNN and KPCA reconstruction error algorithm, and proposes a heuristic method for selecting Gaussian kernel width parameter in GK-SVDD to accelerate real-time threat detection in industrial control environments. Experiments were conducted on two public industrial control network traffic datasets. Compared with the existing methods, these methods can obtain faster detection efficiency and better threat identification performance.

Li, Mingxuan, Lv, Shichao, Shi, Zhiqiang.  2020.  Malware Detection for Industrial Internet Based on GAN. 2020 IEEE International Conference on Information Technology,Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (ICIBA). 1:475–481.
This thesis focuses on the detection of malware in industrial Internet. The basic flow of the detection of malware contains feature extraction and sample identification. API graph can effectively represent the behavior information of malware. However, due to the high algorithm complexity of solving the problem of subgraph isomorphism, the efficiency of analysis based on graph structure feature is low. Due to the different scales of API graph of different malicious codes, the API graph needs to be normalized. Considering the difficulties of sample collection and manual marking, it is necessary to expand the number of malware samples in industrial Internet. This paper proposes a method that combines PageRank with TF-IDF to process the API graph. Besides, this paper proposes a method to construct the adversarial samples of malwares based on GAN.

The upsurge of Industrial Internet of Things is forcing industrial information systems to enable less hierarchical information flow. The connections between humans, devices, and their digital twins are growing in numbers, creating a need for new kind of security and trust solutions. To address these needs, industries are applying distributed ledger technologies, aka blockchains. A significant number of use cases have been studied in the sectors of logistics, energy markets, smart grid security, and food safety, with frequently reported benefits in transparency, reduced costs, and disintermediation. However, distributed ledger technologies have challenges with transaction throughput, latency, and resource requirements, which render the technology unusable in many cases, particularly with constrained Internet of Things devices. To overcome these challenges within the Industrial Internet of Things, we suggest a set of interledger approaches that enable trusted information exchange across different ledgers and constrained devices. With these approaches, the technically most suitable ledger technology can be selected for each use case while simultaneously enjoying the benefits of the most widespread ledger implementations. We present state of the art for distributed ledger technologies to support the use of interledger approaches in industrial settings.

Vanickis, R., Jacob, P., Dehghanzadeh, S., Lee, B..  2018.  Access Control Policy Enforcement for Zero-Trust-Networking. 2018 29th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC). :1-6.

The evolution of the enterprise computing landscape towards emerging trends such as fog/edge computing and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are leading to a change of approach to securing computer networks to deal with challenges such as mobility, virtualized infrastructures, dynamic and heterogeneous user contexts and transaction-based interactions. The uncertainty introduced by such dynamicity introduces greater uncertainty into the access control process and motivates the need for risk-based access control decision making. Thus, the traditional perimeter-based security paradigm is increasingly being abandoned in favour of a so called "zero trust networking" (ZTN). In ZTN networks are partitioned into zones with different levels of trust required to access the zone resources depending on the assets protected by the zone. All accesses to sensitive information is subject to rigorous access control based on user and device profile and context. In this paper we outline a policy enforcement framework to address many of open challenges for risk-based access control for ZTN. We specify the design of required policy languages including a generic firewall policy language to express firewall rules. We design a mechanism to map these rules to specific firewall syntax and to install the rules on the firewall. We show the viability of our design with a small proof-of-concept.

The Industrial Internet promises to radically change and improve many industry's daily business activities, from simple data collection and processing to context-driven, intelligent and pro-active support of workers' everyday tasks and life. The present paper first provides insight into a typical industrial internet application architecture, then it highlights one fundamental arising contradiction: “Who owns the data is often not capable of analyzing it”. This statement is explained by imaging a visionary data supply chain that would realize some of the Industrial Internet promises. To concretely implement such a system, recent standards published by The Open Group are presented, where we highlight the characteristics that make them suitable for Industrial Internet applications. Finally, we discuss comparable solutions and concludes with new business use cases.
