Hynes, E., Flynn, R., Lee, B., Murray, N..  2020.  An Evaluation of Lower Facial Micro Expressions as an Implicit QoE Metric for an Augmented Reality Procedure Assistance Application. 2020 31st Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC). :1–6.
Augmented reality (AR) has been identified as a key technology to enhance worker utility in the context of increasing automation of repeatable procedures. AR can achieve this by assisting the user in performing complex and frequently changing procedures. Crucial to the success of procedure assistance AR applications is user acceptability, which can be measured by user quality of experience (QoE). An active research topic in QoE is the identification of implicit metrics that can be used to continuously infer user QoE during a multimedia experience. A user's QoE is linked to their affective state. Affective state is reflected in facial expressions. Emotions shown in micro facial expressions resemble those expressed in normal expressions but are distinguished from them by their brief duration. The novelty of this work lies in the evaluation of micro facial expressions as a continuous QoE metric by means of correlation analysis to the more traditional and accepted post-experience self-reporting. In this work, an optimal Rubik's Cube solver AR application was used as a proof of concept for complex procedure assistance. This was compared with a paper-based procedure assistance control. QoE expressed by affect in normal and micro facial expressions was evaluated through correlation analysis with post-experience reports. The results show that the AR application yielded higher task success rates and shorter task durations. Micro facial expressions reflecting disgust correlated moderately to the questionnaire responses for instruction disinterest in the AR application.

Maram, S. S., Vishnoi, T., Pandey, S..  2019.  Neural Network and ROS based Threat Detection and Patrolling Assistance. 2019 Second International Conference on Advanced Computational and Communication Paradigms (ICACCP). :1—5.

To bring a uniform development platform which seamlessly combines hardware components and software architecture of various developers across the globe and reduce the complexity in producing robots which help people in their daily ergonomics. ROS has come out to be a game changer. It is disappointing to see the lack of penetration of technology in different verticals which involve protection, defense and security. By leveraging the power of ROS in the field of robotic automation and computer vision, this research will pave path for identification of suspicious activity with autonomously moving bots which run on ROS. The research paper proposes and validates a flow where ROS and computer vision algorithms like YOLO can fall in sync with each other to provide smarter and accurate methods for indoor and limited outdoor patrolling. Identification of age,`gender, weapons and other elements which can disturb public harmony will be an integral part of the research and development process. The simulation and testing reflects the efficiency and speed of the designed software architecture.

Military technology is ever-evolving to increase the safety and security of soldiers on the field while integrating Internet-of-Things solutions to improve operational efficiency in mission oriented tasks in the battlefield. Centralized communication technology is the traditional network model used for battlefields and is vulnerable to denial of service attacks, therefore suffers performance hazards. They also lead to a central point of failure, due to which, a flexible model that is mobile, resilient, and effective for different scenarios must be proposed. Blockchain offers a distributed platform that allows multiple nodes to update a distributed ledger in a tamper-resistant manner. The decentralized nature of this system suggests that it can be an effective tool for battlefields in securing data communication among Internet-of-Battlefield Things (IoBT). In this paper, we integrate a permissioned blockchain, namely Hyperledger Sawtooth, in IoBT context and evaluate its performance with the goal of determining whether it has the potential to serve the performance needs of IoBT environment. Using different testing parameters, the metric data would help in suggesting the best parameter set, network configuration and blockchain usability views in IoBT context. We show that a blockchain-integrated IoBT platform has heavy dependency on the characteristics of the underlying network such as topology, link bandwidth, jitter, and other communication configurations, that can be tuned up to achieve optimal performance.

Abdelwahed, N., Letaifa, A. Ben, Asmi, S. El.  2018.  Content Based Algorithm Aiming to Improve the WEB\_QoE Over SDN Networks. 2018 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops (WAINA). :153–158.
Since the 1990s, the concept of QoE has been increasingly present and many scientists take it into account within different fields of application. Taking for example the case of video streaming, the QoE has been well studied in this case while for the web the study of its QoE is relatively neglected. The Quality of Experience (QoE) is the set of objective and subjective characteristics that satisfy retain or give confidence to a user through the life cycle of a service. There are researches that take the different measurement metrics of QoE as a subject, others attack new ways to improve this QoE in order to satisfy the customer and gain his loyalty. In this paper, we focus on the web QoE that is declined by researches despite its great importance given the complexity of new web pages and their utility that is increasingly critical. The wealth of new web pages in images, videos, audios etc. and their growing significance prompt us to write this paper, in which we discuss a new method that aims to improve the web QoE in a software-defined network (SDN). Our proposed method consists in automating and making more flexible the management of the QoE improvement of the web pages and this by writing an algorithm that, depending on the case, chooses the necessary treatment to improve the web QoE of the page concerned and using both web prefetching and caching to accelerate the data transfer when the user asks for it. The first part of the paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of existing works. In the second part we propose an automatic algorithm that treats each case with the appropriate solution that guarantees its best performance. The last part is devoted to the evaluation of the performance.

The indoor air quality in industrial workplace buildings, e.g. air temperature, humidity and levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), play a critical role in the perceived levels of workers' comfort and in reported medical health. CO2 can act as an oxygen displacer, and in confined spaces humans can have, for example, reactions of dizziness, increased heart rate and blood pressure, headaches, and in more serious cases loss of consciousness. Specialized organizations can be brought in to monitor the work environment for limited periods. However, new low cost wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies offer potential for more continuous and autonomous assessment of industrial workplace air quality. Central to effective decision making is the data analytics approach and visualization of what is potentially, big data (BD) in monitoring the air quality in industrial workplaces. This paper presents a case study that monitors air quality that is collected with WSN technologies. We discuss the potential BD problems. The case trials are from two workshops that are part of a large on-shore logistics base a regional shipping industry in Norway. This small case study demonstrates a monitoring and visualization approach for facilitating BD in decision making for health and safety in the shipping industry. We also identify other potential applications of WSN technologies and visualization of BD in the workplace environments; for example, for monitoring of other substances for worker safety in high risk industries and for quality of goods in supply chain management.

Azakami, T., Shibata, C., Uda, R..  2017.  Challenge to Impede Deep Learning against CAPTCHA with Ergonomic Design. 2017 IEEE 41st Annual Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC). 1:637–642.

Once we had tried to propose an unbreakable CAPTCHA and we reached a result that limitation of time is effect to prevent computers from recognizing characters accurately while computers can finally recognize all text-based CAPTCHA in unlimited time. One of the existing usual ways to prevent computers from recognizing characters is distortion, and adding noise is also effective for the prevention. However, these kinds of prevention also make recognition of characters by human beings difficult. As a solution of the problems, an effective text-based CAPTCHA algorithm with amodal completion was proposed by our team. Our CAPTCHA causes computers a large amount of calculation costs while amodal completion helps human beings to recognize characters momentarily. Our CAPTCHA has evolved with aftereffects and combinations of complementary colors. We evaluated our CAPTCHA with deep learning which is attracting the most attention since deep learning is faster and more accurate than existing methods for recognition with computers. In this paper, we add jagged lines to edges of characters since edges are one of the most important parts for recognition in deep learning. In this paper, we also evaluate that how much the jagged lines decrease recognition of human beings and how much they prevent computers from the recognition. We confirm the effects of our method to deep learning.
