Liao, D., Huang, S., Tan, Y., Bai, G..  2020.  Network Intrusion Detection Method Based on GAN Model. 2020 International Conference on Computer Communication and Network Security (CCNS). :153—156.

The existing network intrusion detection methods have less label samples in the training process, and the detection accuracy is not high. In order to solve this problem, this paper designs a network intrusion detection method based on the GAN model by using the adversarial idea contained in the GAN. The model enhances the original training set by continuously generating samples, which expanding the label sample set. In order to realize the multi-classification of samples, this paper transforms the previous binary classification model of the generated adversarial network into a supervised learning multi-classification model. The loss function of training is redefined, so that the corresponding training method and parameter setting are obtained. Under the same experimental conditions, several performance indicators are used to compare the detection ability of the proposed method, the original classification model and other models. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper is more stable, robust, accurate detection rate, has good generalization ability, and can effectively realize network intrusion detection.

Ayoade, G., Akbar, K. A., Sahoo, P., Gao, Y., Agarwal, A., Jee, K., Khan, L., Singhal, A..  2020.  Evolving Advanced Persistent Threat Detection using Provenance Graph and Metric Learning. 2020 IEEE Conference on Communications and Network Security (CNS). :1—9.

Advanced persistent threats (APT) have increased in recent times as a result of the rise in interest by nation-states and sophisticated corporations to obtain high profile information. Typically, APT attacks are more challenging to detect since they leverage zero-day attacks and common benign tools. Furthermore, these attack campaigns are often prolonged to evade detection. We leverage an approach that uses a provenance graph to obtain execution traces of host nodes in order to detect anomalous behavior. By using the provenance graph, we extract features that are then used to train an online adaptive metric learning. Online metric learning is a deep learning method that learns a function to minimize the separation between similar classes and maximizes the separation between dis-similar instances. We compare our approach with baseline models and we show our method outperforms the baseline models by increasing detection accuracy on average by 11.3 % and increases True positive rate (TPR) on average by 18.3 %.

Zhu, K., Wu, B., Wang, B..  2020.  Deepfake Detection with Clustering-based Embedding Regularization. 2020 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Data Science in Cyberspace (DSC). :257—264.

In recent months, AI-synthesized face swapping videos referred to as deepfake have become an emerging problem. False video is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish, which brings a series of challenges to social security. Some scholars are devoted to studying how to improve the detection accuracy of deepfake video. At the same time, in order to conduct better research, some datasets for deepfake detection are made. Companies such as Google and Facebook have also spent huge sums of money to produce datasets for deepfake video detection, as well as holding deepfake detection competitions. The continuous advancement of video tampering technology and the improvement of video quality have also brought great challenges to deepfake detection. Some scholars have achieved certain results on existing datasets, while the results on some high-quality datasets are not as good as expected. In this paper, we propose new method with clustering-based embedding regularization for deepfake detection. We use open source algorithms to generate videos which can simulate distinctive artifacts in the deepfake videos. To improve the local smoothness of the representation space, we integrate a clustering-based embedding regularization term into the classification objective, so that the obtained model learns to resist adversarial examples. We evaluate our method on three latest deepfake datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

HOU, RUI, Han, Min, Chen, Jing, Hu, Wenbin, Tan, Xiaobin, Luo, Jiangtao, Ma, Maode.  2019.  Theil-Based Countermeasure against Interest Flooding Attacks for Named Data Networks. IEEE Network. 33:116—121.

NDN has been widely regarded as a promising representation and implementation of information- centric networking (ICN) and serves as a potential candidate for the future Internet architecture. However, the security of NDN is threatened by a significant safety hazard known as an IFA, which is an evolution of DoS and distributed DoS attacks on IP-based networks. The IFA attackers can create numerous malicious interest packets into a named data network to quickly exhaust the bandwidth of communication channels and cache capacity of NDN routers, thereby seriously affecting the routers' ability to receive and forward packets for normal users. Accurate detection of the IFAs is the most critical issue in the design of a countermeasure. To the best of our knowledge, the existing IFA countermeasures still have limitations in terms of detection accuracy, especially for rapidly volatile attacks. This article proposes a TC to detect the distributions of normal and malicious interest packets in the NDN routers to further identify the IFA. The trace back method is used to prevent further attempts. The simulation results show the efficiency of the TC for mitigating the IFAs and its advantages over other typical IFA countermeasures.

Kim, Sang Wu, Liu, Xudong.  2018.  Crypto-Aided Bayesian Detection of False Data in Short Messages. 2018 IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP). :253-257.

We propose a crypto-aided Bayesian detection framework for detecting false data in short messages with low overhead. The proposed approach employs the Bayesian detection at the physical layer in parallel with a lightweight cryptographic detection, followed by combining the two detection outcomes. We develop the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) rule for combining the cryptographic and Bayesian detection outcome, which minimizes the average probability of detection error. We derive the probability of false alarm and missed detection and discuss the improvement of detection accuracy provided by the proposed method.

Seth, R., Kaushal, R..  2017.  Detection of transformed malwares using permission flow graphs. 2017 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics-Asia (ICCE-Asia). :17–21.

With growing popularity of Android, it's attack surface has also increased. Prevalence of third party android marketplaces gives attackers an opportunity to plant their malicious apps in the mobile eco-system. To evade signature based detection, attackers often transform their malware, for instance, by introducing code level changes. In this paper we propose a lightweight static Permission Flow Graph (PFG) based approach to detect malware even when they have been transformed (obfuscated). A number of techniques based on behavioral analysis have also been proposed in the past; how-ever our interest lies in leveraging the permission framework alone to detect malware variants and transformations without considering behavioral aspects of a malware. Our proposed approach constructs Permission Flow Graph (PFG) for an Android App. Transformations performed at code level, often result in changing control flow, however, most of the time, the permission flow remains invariant. As a consequences, PFGs of transformed malware and non-transformed malware remain structurally similar as shown in this paper using state-of-the-art graph similarity algorithm. Furthermore, we propose graph based similarity metrics at both edge level and vertex level in order to bring forth the structural similarity of the two PFGs being compared. We validate our proposed methodology through machine learning algorithms. Results prove that our approach is successfully able to group together Android malware and its variants (transformations) together in the same cluster. Further, we demonstrate that our proposed approach is able to detect transformed malware with a detection accuracy of 98.26%, thereby ensuring that malicious Apps can be detected even after transformations.

Katkar, V.D., Bhatia, D.S..  2014.  Lightweight approach for detection of denial of service attacks using numeric to binary preprocessing. Circuits, Systems, Communication and Information Technology Applications (CSCITA), 2014 International Conference on. :207-212.

Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, exhausts the resources of server/service and makes it unavailable for legitimate users. With increasing use of online services and attacks on these services, the importance of Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for detection of DoS/DDoS attacks has also grown. Detection accuracy & CPU utilization of Data mining based IDS is directly proportional to the quality of training dataset used to train it. Various preprocessing methods like normalization, discretization, fuzzification are used by researchers to improve the quality of training dataset. This paper evaluates the effect of various data preprocessing methods on the detection accuracy of DoS/DDoS attack detection IDS and proves that numeric to binary preprocessing method performs better compared to other methods. Experimental results obtained using KDD 99 dataset are provided to support the efficiency of proposed combination.
