Crime is a social problem that after the confinement of COVID-19 has increased significantly worldwide, which is why it is important to know what technological tools can be used to prevent criminal acts. In the present work, a systemic analysis was carried out to determine the importance of how to prevent crime using new information technologies. Fifty research articles were selected between 2015 and 2021. The information was obtained from different databases such as IEEE Xplore, Redalyc, Scopus, SciELO and Medline. Keywords were used to delimit the search and be more precise in our inquiry on the web. The results obtained show specific information on how to prevent crime using new information technologies. We conclude that new information technologies help to prevent crime since several developed countries have implemented their security system effectively, while underdeveloped countries do not have adequate technologies to prevent crime.

A smart home provides better living environment by allowing remote Internet access for controlling the home appliances and devices. Security of smart homes is an important application area commonly using Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs), image capture and analysis but such solutions sometimes fail to detect an event. An unambiguous person detection is important for security applications so that no event is missed and also that there are no false alarms which result in waste of resources. Cloud platforms provide deep learning and IoT services which can be used to implement an automated and failsafe security application. In this paper, we demonstrate reliable person detection for indoor and outdoor scenarios by integrating an application running on an edge device with AWS cloud services. We provide results for identifying a person before authorizing entry, detecting any trespassing within the boundaries, and monitoring movements within the home.

As Electric Power is one of the major concerns, so the concept of the automatic lighting and security system saves the electrical energy. By using the automatic lightning, the consumption of electrical power can be minimized to a greater extent and for that sensors and microcontrollers can be designed in such a manner such that lights get ON/OFF based on motion in a room. The various sensors used for sensing the motion in an area are PIR motion sensor, IR Motion Sensor. An IR sensor senses the heat of an object and detects its motion within some range as it emits infrared radiations and this complete process can be controlled by microcontroller. Along with that security system can be applied in this concept by programming the microcontroller in such a way that if there is some movement in an area then lights must get ON/OFF automatically or any alarm must start. This chapter proposes the framework for the smart lightning with security systems in a building so that electrical power can be utilized efficiently and secures the building.

Although the deep learning technology effectively improves the effect of person re-identification (re-ID) in video surveillance, there is still a lack of efficient framework in practical, especially in terms of computational cost, which usually requires GPU support. So this paper explores to solve the actual running performance and an effective person re-ID framework is proposed. A tiny network is designed for person detection and a triplet network is adopted for training feature extraction network. The motion detection and person detection is combined to speed up the whole process. The proposed framework is tested in practice and the results show that it can run in real-time on an ordinary PC machine. And the accuracy achieves 91.6% in actual data set. It has a good guidance for person re-ID in actual application.

H.264/advanced video coding surveillance video encoders use the Skip mode specified by the standard to reduce bandwidth. They also use multiple frames as reference for motion-compensated prediction. In this paper, we propose two techniques to reduce the bandwidth and computational cost of static camera surveillance video encoders without affecting detection and recognition performance. A spatial sampler is proposed to sample pixels that are segmented using a Gaussian mixture model. Modified weight updates are derived for the parameters of the mixture model to reduce floating point computations. A storage pattern of the parameters in memory is also modified to improve cache performance. Skip selection is performed using the segmentation results of the sampled pixels. The second contribution is a low computational cost algorithm to choose the reference frames. The proposed reference frame selection algorithm reduces the cost of coding uncovered background regions. We also study the number of reference frames required to achieve good coding efficiency. Distortion over foreground pixels is measured to quantify the performance of the proposed techniques. Experimental results show bit rate savings of up to 94.5% over methods proposed in literature on video surveillance data sets. The proposed techniques also provide up to 74.5% reduction in compression complexity without increasing the distortion over the foreground regions in the video sequence.
