As the technological progress of mobile Internet, smartphone based on Android OS accounts for the vast majority of market share. The traditional encryption technology cannot resolve the dilemma in smartphone information leakage, and the Android-based authentication system in view of biometric recognition emerge to offer more reliable information assurance. In this paper, we summarize several biometrics providing their attributes. Furthermore, we also review the algorithmic framework and performance index acting on authentication techniques. Thus, typical identity authentication systems including their experimental results are concluded and analyzed in the survey. The article is written with an intention to provide an in-depth overview of Android-based biometric verification systems to the readers.

Biometric recognition systems based on ultrasound images have been investigated for several decades, and nowadays ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are fully integrated in portable devices. Main advantage of the Ultrasound over other technologies are the possibility to collect 3D images, allowing to gain information on under-skin features, which improve recognition accuracy and resistance to spoofing. Also, ultrasound images are not sensible to several skin contaminations, humidity and not uniform ambient illumination. An ultrasound system, able to acquire 3D images of the human palm has been recently proposed. In this work, a recognition procedure based on 2D palmprint images collected with this system is proposed and evaluated through verification experiments carried out on a home made database composed of 141 samples collected from 24 users. Perspective of the proposed method by upgrading the recognition procedure to provide a 3D template able to accounts for palm lines' depth are finally highlighted and discussed.

Security as a condition is the degree of resistance to, or protection from harm. Securing gadgets in a way that is simple for the user to deploy yet, stringent enough to deny any malware intrusions onto the protected circle is investigated to find a balance between the extremes. Basically, the dominant approach on current control access is via password or PIN, but its flaw is being clearly documented. An application (to be incorporated in a mobile phone) that allows the user's gadget to be used as a Biometric Capture device in addition to serve as a Biometric Signature acquisition device for processing a multi-level authentication procedure to allow access to any specific Web Service of exclusive confidentiality is proposed. To evaluate the lucidness of the proposed procedure, a specific set of domain specifications to work on are chosen and the accuracy of the Biometric face Recognition carried out is evaluated along with the compatibility of the Application developed with different sample inputs. The results obtained are exemplary compared to the existing other devices to suit a larger section of the society through the Internet for improving the security.
