Dear SC3 community,
Winter is coming fast in Washington DC, but the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T) are working hard to prepare for the upcoming Global City Teams Challenge Smart and Secure Cities and Communities Challenge (GCTC-SC3) Expo on February 20-22, 2019 in Washington DC. It's the largest smart city and Internet of Things (IoT) annual event hosted by the U.S. federal government. We have new updates.
The 2019 Expo Exhibit opportunity is broadly available.
  • Previously, only approved partnerships of cities and technology innovators were given an exhibit space. We are relaxing the requirement for the upcoming Expo. We will provide booth or tabletop space free of charge to any organization that wants to exhibit and demonstrate their smart city and/or IoT solutions.
  • Contact Gale Guerrieri at meetingsguru@gmail.com for questions related to exhibitor requirements and packages. (There is no charge for the space, but other exhibit cost including power should be covered by the exhibitor.)
The 2019 Expo Speaking opportunity is available to 2018 Action Clusters: Open for Submission.
  • We will have a series of panel discussions at the Expo, and we will invite speakers from 2018 Action Clusters (See current list). To become an 2018 action cluster, please submit a description of your smart city/community project by December 5, 2018. GCTC-SC3 organizers will review the submission and will approve it in a couple of weeks if all the required information is properly provided. For the details of the submission process, please see GCTC-SC3 Participation Guide.
  • Most panels will take place in the morning of Feb 21 and 22. Preliminary agenda will be available shortly.
  • Take a look at what happened at the last year's Expo: See the 2017 Expo speakers list.
  • Travel Support: Partial travel support will be available to city/community officials speaking on behalf of an action cluster or SuperCluster. The support will be provided up to a ceiling (exact amount TBD) and will be offered to one city official per action cluster. The total number of supported travelers will be limited by the budget and will be provided on the first-come-first-served basis after the Action Cluster is approved. Contact Sokwoo Rhee for more information.
Other News: Announcement of the Federal Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) Task Force Guide
  • The Federal Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) Task Force Guide, "Connecting and Securing Communities: A Guide for Federal Agencies Supporting Research, Development, Demonstration, and Deployment of Technology for Smart Cities and Communities" has been announced.
  • The purpose of this document is to guide and coordinate ongoing Federal activities that enhance the efforts of smart cities and communities and private sector partners. It describes recommended practices and approaches for research, development, coordination, and engagement by Federal agencies in support of U.S. cities and communities expanding their use of digital technologies to build "smart" infrastructures, systems, and services.
