Expo registration and deadlines, Smart Buildings SuperCluster, Challenge-based Procurement Opportunity, U.S. Commercial Service Webinar

Dear GCTC/SC3 community,
 
So far, over 60 action clusters have been accepted and offered to speak and exhibit at the upcoming GCTC/SC3 Expo. Officials from over 40 cities including 20 ASEAN cities are already confirmed to attend. We also have an exciting announcement that a new SuperCluster on Smart Buildings has been formed. The Smart Buildings SuperCluster will debut at the Expo with a series of discussions and demonstrations on smart buildings. Now GCTC/SC3 includes 8 SuperClusters and 1 Advisory Committee along with over 200 teams of communities and technology innovators.

It’s not too late to form an action cluster and exhibit. A few deadlines are approaching to speak and exhibit at the Expo. 

• Submit a worksheet to form new action cluster (to exhibit and speak): May 15
• Submit a request for exhibit space (to exhibit only): June 7 (We are happy to accommodate large items such as a vehicle or smart tractors. Let us know by May 23)

• Over 80 Exhibitors and 1500 attendees are expected. Sessions will include Smart Regions, Smart States, planning, design, and deployment of interoperable solutions, cybersecurity and privacy, inclusiveness and education, and more. 

City Innovate’s Challenge-based Procurement Opportunity.
 
City Innovate is a GCTC partner specializing in challenge-based procurement. They are inviting government agencies and startups to apply to join the Startup in Residence (STIR) program at City Innovate. STIR is a 16-week program to co-design technology solutions with startups based on challenges identified by government agencies that results in government contracts. The STIR program is a unique opportunity for startups to work with cities that have already identified contract opportunities, and for cities to find best solutions to solve their problems.
 
City Innovate received great validation and press on the STIR program model from the Governor of California in 2019 and Code for America-- read more here and the executive order he signed on Challenge Based Procurement which is core to the STIR program.
 
City Innovate invites GCTC/SC3 community to join STIR’s upcoming webinar on Startup in Residence on May 8th 10-11am US Pacific Time with colleagues that might be interested in learning more (register here).
 
U.S. Commerce Dept Promotes U.S. Smart City Tech in Barcelona – Join a May 9 Webex
 
U.S. Commercial Service from the U.S. Department of Commerce will host a Webex to provide an overview of the Commerce-Department supported pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC). This WebEx is intended for U.S. firms and U.S. cities looking to enter or expand into Europe and Eurasia by exhibiting November 19-21, 2019 at the Commerce Department-supported activities at SCEWC.

• During the WebEx you will hear from the U.S. Department of Commerce and partners on support to meet buyers, partners and market advisors from regional U.S. embassies. Join the USA Pavilion and exhibit at the Expo, meet municipal execs and learn about market opportunities in Turkey, Israel, Spain, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, etc.
• The Commerce Dept and its partners support U.S. stakeholders access to tap strong demand at the Expo for US solutions for 1) Digital Transformation; 2) Urban Environment; 3) Mobility and 4) Governance & Finance.
