COVID-19 UPDATE
The current situation with the Corona Virus outbreak is forcing us to take special measures to assure we go by the recommendations of the public authorities. The University of Porto has forbidden the organization of international events until April 13. Since WFCS 2020 is beyond that date, we still keep the event as scheduled. However, we will relax the usual requirements for onsite paper presentations. If your travel is adversely affected by the COVID-19 situation, we accept that your paper is presented in one of the following forms:
- onsite presentation by the author or one co-author
- onsite presentation by a third person qualified to substitute the author(s)
- remote presentation by the (co-)author (in this case we require a prerecorded presentation as backup)
Moreover, we will accept cancellations with full reimbursement until further notice, except for the mandatory registrations associated to the accepted papers.
Nevertheless, the situation continues very volatile, thus stay tuned and check our website frequently.
The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority. We will continue to monitor official travel advisories related to the Coronavirus and update the event website to keep you informed.

16th IEEE International Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS 2020)
WFCS is back in Porto 20 years after to celebrate its 25th anniversary! The inaugural edition took place in Leysin, Switzerland, on October 4-6, 1995, followed by the second edition in Barcelona, on October 1-3 of 1997 and the third edition in Porto, on September 6-8 of 2000. These events joined a vibrant community working on communications for automation, with a focus on industrial automation, but also considering other forms of automation.
This time, on April 27-29 of 2020, WFCS will have its 16th edition, supported by IEEE and IES, and led by the IEEE TC on Factory Automation. The event will be hosted, as 20 years ago, by CISTER and organized in collaboration with the AUC in Cairo, Egypt, and FEUP and ISEP in Porto, Portugal.
Currently, WFCS is the largest IEEE conference especially dedicated to communications for (industrial) automation systems. Its aim is to provide a forum for researchers, developers and practitioners to review and discuss most recent trends in the area and share innovative research directions. Mark the dates in your calendar and prepare your submissions.
If you have interests in this broad area, whether you are in academia, governmental agencies or industry, this is an event not to be missed!
