An Innovation Challenge for College/University Students on “UAV to UAV Communications”
IEEE CONECCT 2020, July 2-4, Bangalore GITAM UNIVERSITY
Vehicle-to-Vehicle communications for UAVs or "UAV to UAV communications" is one of the key elements in UAV Traffic Management. Direct low-latency communication among UAVs is important for collision avoidance, especially during close encounters. UAV to UAV communications can also be utilized to establish beyond-radio-line-of-sight communications and/or an ad hoc network among UAVs so that time-critical information can be shared among the UAVs. Recently, IEEE established P1920.2 Working Group to develop standards for Vehicle-to-Vehicle communications for UAVs. VTS Bangalore, during IEEE CONNECT 2020, is organizing "UAV-to-UAV Communications" challenge to encourage students to come up with innovative ideas including use cases, edge computing solutions, and strategies for collaborative task handling, among others. This event is open to all students enrolled in colleges and universities around the world.
Six project teams (4-6 student/team), will be funded $500 each to design, develop, and demonstrate a concept or a use case for "UAV to UAV Communications". Best project among them will be awarded $750 cash prize. Additionally, up to 10 students who come up with AI/edge computing solution for UAVs will be funded up to $100 to procure a Microcontroller. In addition, complimentary registration to IEEE CONECCT 2020 will be offered to all the team members of above two challenges.
