KEY HIGHLIGHTS

For the guidelines for scientific reporting in cyber security, we have refined the thematic groups, identified last quarter. These thematic groups categorize the data gathered from the interviews we conducted with cyber security experts. These thematic groups are integral to our work in finalizing the first version of the guidelines for improving scientific rigor and validity in cyber security reporting. We plan to release version 1 of the guidelines by the end of 2021.

We also completed and verified our analysis of de-identified reviews from papers submitted to HoTSoS'20, begun during the previous quarter. We are now integrating the results of this analysis into the guideline development process described above. Because the HoTSoS conference is focused on the science of security, the content of these reviews helps us better understand the types of information science of security experts (the HotSoS reviewers) find important when reviewing cyber security research. We plan to use this data to further verify and support the guidelines created from the interview data.
