Metaverse opens up a new social networking paradigm where people can experience a real interactive feeling without physical space constraints. Social interactions are gradually evolving from text combined with pictures and videos to 3-dimensional virtual reality, making the social experience increasingly physical, implying that more metaverse applications with immersive experiences will be developed in the future. However, the increasing data dimensionality and volume for new metaverse applications present a significant challenge in data acquisition, security, and sharing. Furthermore, metaverse applications require high capacity and ultrareliability for the wireless system to guarantee the quality of user experience, which cannot be addressed in the current fifth-generation system. Therefore, reaching the metaverse is dependent on the revolution in the sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication, which is expected to provide low-latency, high-throughput, and secure services. This article provides a comprehensive view of metaverse applications and investigates the fundamental technologies for the 6G toward metaverse.

Lai, Chengzhe, Wang, Yinzhen.  2022.  Achieving Efficient and Secure Query in Blockchain-based Traceability Systems. 2022 19th Annual International Conference on Privacy, Security & Trust (PST). :1–5.
With the rapid development of blockchain technology, it provides a new technical solution for secure storage of data and trusted computing. However, in the actual application of data traceability, blockchain technology has an obvious disadvantage: the large amount of data stored in the blockchain system will lead to a long response time for users to query data. Higher query delay severely restricts the development of block chain technology in the traceability system. In order to solve this problem, we propose an efficient, secure and low storage overhead blockchain query scheme. Specifically, we design an index structure independent of Merkle tree to support efficient intra-block query, and create new fields in the block header to optimize inter-block query. Compared with several existing schemes, our scheme ensures the security of data. Finally, we simulate and evaluate our proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme has better execution efficiency while reducing additional overhead.

Salama, Ramiz, Al-Turjman, Fadi.  2022.  AI in Blockchain Towards Realizing Cyber Security. 2022 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Everything (AIE). :471—475.
Blockchain and artificial intelligence are two technologies that, when combined, have the ability to help each other realize their full potential. Blockchains can guarantee the accessibility and consistent admittance to integrity safeguarded big data indexes from numerous areas, allowing AI systems to learn more effectively and thoroughly. Similarly, artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to offer new consensus processes, and hence new methods of engaging with Blockchains. When it comes to sensitive data, such as corporate, healthcare, and financial data, various security and privacy problems arise that must be properly evaluated. Interaction with Blockchains is vulnerable to data credibility checks, transactional data leakages, data protection rules compliance, on-chain data privacy, and malicious smart contracts. To solve these issues, new security and privacy-preserving technologies are being developed. AI-based blockchain data processing, either based on AI or used to defend AI-based blockchain data processing, is emerging to simplify the integration of these two cutting-edge technologies.

Wang, Jingyi, Huang, Cheng, Ma, Yiming, Wang, Huiyuan, Peng, Chao, Yu, HouHui.  2022.  BA-CPABE : An auditable Ciphertext-Policy Attribute Based Encryption Based on Blockchain. 2022 International Conference on Blockchain Technology and Information Security (ICBCTIS). :193—197.
At present, the ciphertext-policy attribute based encryption (CP-ABE) has been widely used in different fields of data sharing such as cross-border paperless trade, digital government and etc. However, there still exist some challenges including single point of failure, key abuse and key unaccountable issues in CP-ABE. To address these problems. We propose an accountable CP-ABE mechanism based on block chain system. First, we establish two authorization agencies MskCA and AttrVN(Attribute verify Network),where the MskCA can realize master key escrow, and the AttrVN manages and validates users' attributes. In this way, our system can avoid the single point of failure and improve the privacy of user attributes and security of keys. Moreover, in order to realize auditability of CP-ABE key parameter transfer, we introduce the did and record parameter transfer process on the block chain. Finally, we theoretically prove the security of our CP-ABE. Through comprehensive comparison, the superiority of CP-ABE is verified. At the same time, our proposed schemes have some properties such as fast decryption and so on.

The outsourcing of databases is very popular among IT companies and industries. It acts as a solution for businesses to ensure availability of the data for their users. The solution of outsourcing the database is to encrypt the data in a form where the database service provider can perform relational operations over the encrypted database. At the same time, the associated security risk of data leakage prevents many potential industries from deploying it. In this paper, we present a secure outsourcing database search scheme (BASDB) with the use of a smart contract for search operation over index of encrypted database and storing encrypted relational database in the cloud. Our proposed scheme BASDB is a simple and practical solution for effective search on encrypted relations and is well resistant to information leakage against attacks like search and access pattern leakage.

Liang, Xiao, An, Ningyu, Li, Da, Zhang, Qiang, Wang, Ruimiao.  2022.  A Blockchain and ABAC Based Data Access Control Scheme in Smart Grid. 2022 International Conference on Blockchain Technology and Information Security (ICBCTIS). :52—55.
In the smart grid, the sharing of power data among various energy entities can make the data play a higher value. However, there may be unauthorized access while sharing data, which makes many entities unwilling to share their data to prevent data leakage. Based on blockchain and ABAC (Attribute-based Access Control) technology, this paper proposes an access control scheme, so that users can achieve fine-grained access control of their data when sharing them. The solution uses smart contract to achieve automated and reliable policy evaluation. IPFS (Interplanetary File System) is used for off-chain distributed storage to share the storage pressure of blockchain and guarantee the reliable storage of data. At the same time, all processes in the system are stored in the blockchain, ensuring the accountability of the system. Finally, the experiment proves the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Counterfeit drugs are an immense threat for the pharmaceutical industry worldwide due to limitations of supply chain. Our proposed solution can overcome many challenges as it will trace and track the drugs while in transit, give transparency along with robust security and will ensure legitimacy across the supply chain. It provides a reliable certification process as well. Fabric architecture is permissioned and private. Hyperledger is a preferred framework over Ethereum because it makes use of features like modular design, high efficiency, quality code and open-source which makes it more suitable for B2B applications with no requirement of cryptocurrency in Hyperledger Fabric. QR generation and scanning are provided as a functionality in the application instead of bar code for its easy accessibility to make it more secure and reliable. The objective of our solution is to provide substantial solutions to the supply chain stakeholders in record maintenance, drug transit monitoring and vendor side verification.

Food supply chain is a complex but necessary food production arrangement needed by the global community to maintain sustainability and food security. For the past few years, entities being a part of the food processing system have usually taken food supply chain for granted, they forget that just one disturbance in the chain can lead to poisoning, scarcity, or increased prices. This continually affects the vulnerable among society, including impoverished individuals and small restaurants/grocers. The food supply chain has been expanded across the globe involving many more entities, making the supply chain longer and more problematic making the traditional logistics pattern unable to match the expectations of customers. Food supply chains involve many challenges like lack of traceability and communication, supply of fraudulent food products and failure in monitoring warehouses. Therefore there is a need for a system that ensures authentic information about the product, a reliable trading mechanism. In this paper, we have proposed a comprehensive solution to make the supply chain consumer centric by using Blockchain. Blockchain technology in the food industry applies in a mindful and holistic manner to verify and certify the quality of food products by presenting authentic information about the products from the initial stages. The problem formulation, simulation and performance analysis are also discussed in this research work.

Dąbrowski, Marcin, Pacyna, Piotr.  2022.  Blockchain-based identity dicovery between heterogenous identity management systems. 2022 6th International Conference on Cryptography, Security and Privacy (CSP). :131—137.
Identity Management Systems (IdMS) have seemingly evolved in recent years, both in terms of modelling approach and in terms of used technology. The early centralized, later federated and user-centric Identity Management (IdM) was finally replaced by Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI). Solutions based on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) appeared, with prominent examples of uPort, Sovrin or ShoCard. In effect, users got more freedom in creation and management of their identities. IdM systems became more distributed, too. However, in the area of interoperability, dynamic and ad-hoc identity management there has been almost no significant progress. Quest for the best IdM system which will be used by all entities and organizations is deemed to fail. The environment of IdM systems is, and in the near future will still be, heterogenous. Therefore a person will have to manage her or his identities in multiple IdM systems. In this article authors argument that future-proof IdM systems should be able to interoperate with each other dynamically, i.e. be able to discover existence of different identities of a person across multiple IdM systems, dynamically build trust relations and be able to translate identity assertions and claims across various IdM domains. Finally, authors introduce identity relationship model and corresponding identity discovery algorithm, propose IdMS-agnostic identity discovery service design and its implementation with use of Ethereum and Smart Contracts.

Smart contracts are an attractive aspect of blockchain technology. A smart contract is a piece of executable code that runs on top of the blockchain and is used to facilitate, execute, and enforce agreements between untrustworthy parties without the need for a third party. This paper offers a review of the literature on smart contract applications in intellectual property management. The goal is to look at technology advancements and smart contract deployment in this area. The theoretical foundation of many papers published in recent years is used as a source of theoretical and implementation research for this purpose. According to the literature review we conducted, smart contracts function automatically, control, or document legally significant events and activities in line with the contract agreement's terms. This is a relatively new technology that is projected to deliver solutions for trust, security, and transparency across a variety of areas. An exploratory strategy was used to perform this literature review.

Ahmad, Ashar, Saad, Muhammad, Al Ghamdi, Mohammed, Nyang, DaeHun, Mohaisen, David.  2022.  BlockTrail: A Service for Secure and Transparent Blockchain-Driven Audit Trails. IEEE Systems Journal. 16:1367–1378.
Audit trails are critical components in enterprise business applications, typically used for storing, tracking, and auditing data. Entities in the audit trail applications have weak trust boundaries, which expose them to various security risks and attacks. To harden the security and develop secure by design applications, blockchain technology has been recently introduced in the audit trails. Blockchains take a consensus-driven clean slate approach to equip audit trails with secure and transparent data processing, without a trusted intermediary. On a downside, blockchains significantly increase the space-time complexity of the audit trails, leading to high storage costs and low transaction throughput. In this article, we introduce BlockTrail, a novel blockchain architecture that fragments the legacy blockchain systems into layers of codependent hierarchies, thereby reducing the space-time complexity and increasing the throughput. BlockTrail is prototyped on the “practical Byzantine fault tolerance” protocol with a custom-built blockchain. Experiments with BlockTrail show that compared to the conventional schemes, BlockTrail is secure and efficient, with low storage footprint.

Liang, Xiubo, Guo, Ningxiang, Hong, Chaoqun.  2022.  A Certificate Authority Scheme Based on Trust Ring for Consortium Nodes. 2022 International Conference on High Performance Big Data and Intelligent Systems (HDIS). :90–94.
The access control mechanism of most consortium blockchain is implemented through traditional Certificate Authority scheme based on trust chain and centralized key management such as PKI/CA at present. However, the uneven power distribution of CA nodes may cause problems with leakage of certificate keys, illegal issuance of certificates, malicious rejection of certificates issuance, manipulation of issuance logs and metadata, it could compromise the security and dependability of consortium blockchain. Therefore, this paper design and implement a Certificate Authority scheme based on trust ring model that can not only enhance the reliability of consortium blockchain, but also ensure high performance. Combined public key, transformation matrix and elliptic curve cryptography are applied to the scheme to generate and store keys in a cluster of CA nodes dispersedly and securely for consortium nodes. It greatly reduced the possibility of malicious behavior and key leakage. To achieve the immutability of logs and metadata, the scheme also utilized public blockchain and smart contract technology to organize the whole procedure of certificate issuance, the issuance logs and metadata for certificate validation are stored in public blockchain. Experimental results showed that the scheme can surmount the disadvantages of the traditional scheme while maintaining sufficiently good performance, including issuance speed and storage efficiency of certificates.

Cloud computing is becoming a demanding technology due to its flexibility, sensibility and remote accessibility. Apart from these applications of cloud computing, privacy and security are two terms that pose a circumstantial discussion. Various authors have argued on this topic that cloud computing is more secure than other data sharing and storing methods. The conventional data storing system is a computer system or smartphone storage. The argument debate also states that cloud computing is vulnerable to enormous types of attacks which make it a more concerning technology. This current study has also tried to draw the circumstantial and controversial debate on the security and privacy system of cloud computing. Primary research has been conducted with 65 cloud computing experts to understand whether a cloud computing security technique is highly secure or not. An online survey has been conducted with them where they provided their opinions based on the security and privacy system of cloud computing. Findings showed that no particular technology is available which can provide maximum security. Although the respondents agreed that blockchain is a more secure cloud computing technology; however, the blockchain also has certain threats which need to be addressed. The study has found essential encryption systems that can be integrated to strengthen security; however, continuous improvement is required.

Markelon, Sam A., True, John.  2022.  The DecCert PKI: A Solution to Decentralized Identity Attestation and Zooko’s Triangle. 2022 IEEE International Conference on Decentralized Applications and Infrastructures (DAPPS). :74–82.
We propose DecCert, a decentralized public key infrastructure designed as a smart contract that solves the problem of identity attestation on public blockchains. Our system allows an individual to bind an identity to a public blockchain address. Once a claim of identity is made by an individual, other users can choose to verify the attested identity based on the evidence presented by an identity claim maker by staking cryptocurrency in the DecCert smart contract. Increasing levels of trust are naturally built based upon the amount staked and the duration the collateral is staked for. This mechanism replaces the usual utilization of digital signatures in a traditional hierarchical certificate authority model or the web of trust model to form a publicly verifiable decentralized stake of trust model. We also present a novel solution to the certificate revocation problem and implement our solution on the Ethereum blockchain. Further, we show that our design solves Zooko’s triangle as defined for public key infrastructure deployments.

Song, Zhiming, Yu, Yimin.  2022.  The Digital Identity Management System Model Based on Blockchain. 2022 International Conference on Blockchain Technology and Information Security (ICBCTIS). :131—137.
Digital identity management system is the securi-ty infrastructure of computer and internet applications. However, currently, most of the digital identity management systems are faced with problems such as the difficulty of cross-domain authentication and interoperation, the lack of credibility of identity authentication, the weakness of the security of identity data. Although the advantages of block-chain technology have attached the attentions of experts and scholars in the field of digital identity management and many digital identity management systems based on block-chain have been built, the systems still can't completely solve the problems mentioned above. Therefore, in this pa-per, an effective digital identity management system model is proposed which combines technologies of self-sovereign identity and oracle with blockchain so as to pave a way in solving the problems mentioned above and constructing a secure and reliable digital identity management system.

Swarm robotics is a network based multi-device system designed to achieve shared objectives in a synchronized way. This system is widely used in industries like farming, manufacturing, and defense applications. In recent implementations, swarm robotics is integrated with Blockchain based networks to enhance communication, security, and decentralized decision-making capabilities. As most of the current blockchain applications are based on complex consensus algorithms, every individual robot in the swarm network requires high computing power to run these complex algorithms. Thus, it is a challenging task to achieve consensus between the robots in the network. This paper will discuss the details of designing an effective consensus algorithm that meets the requirements of swarm robotics network.

The architecture and functioning of the electricity markets are rapidly evolving in favour of solutions based on real-time data sharing and decentralised, distributed, renewable energy generation. Peer-to-peer (P2P) energy markets allow two individuals to transact with one another without the need of intermediaries, reducing the load on the power grid during peak hours. However, such a P2P energy market is prone to various cyber attacks. Blockchain technology has been proposed to implement P2P energy trading to support this change. One of the most crucial components of blockchain technology in energy trading is the consensus mechanism. It determines the effectiveness and security of the blockchain for energy trading. However, most of the consensus used in energy trading today are traditional consensus such as Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT). These traditional mechanisms cannot be directly adopted in P2P energy trading due to their huge computational power, low throughput, and high latency. Therefore, we propose the Block Alliance Consensus (BAC) mechanism based on Hashgraph. In a massive P2P energy trading network, BAC can keep Hashgraph's throughput while resisting Sybil attacks and supporting the addition and deletion of energy participants. The high efficiency and security of BAC and the blockchain-based energy trading platform are verified through experiments: our improved BAC has an average throughput that is 2.56 times more than regular BFT, 5 times greater than PoW, and 30% greater than the original BAC. The improved BAC has an average latency that is 41% less than BAC and 81% less than original BFT. Our energy trading blockchain (ETB)'s READ performance can achieve the most outstanding throughput of 1192 tps at a workload of 1200 tps, while WRITE can achieve 682 tps at a workload of 800 tps with a success rate of 95% and 0.18 seconds of latency.

In a traditional electronic records management system (ERMS), the legitimacy of the participants’ identities is verified by Certificate Authority (CA) certifications. The authentication process is complicated and takes up lots of memory. To overcome this problem, we construct a hierarchical electronic records management system by using a Hierarchical Identity-Based Cryptosystem (HIBC) to replace CA. However, there exist the threats of malicious behavior from a private key generator (PKG) or an entity in the upper layer because the private keys are generated by a PKG or upper entity in HIBC. Thus, we adopt distributed key generation protocols in HIBC to avoid the threats. Finally, we use blockchain technology in our system to achieve decentralized management.

The agricultural sector and other Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in India operate with more than 90% migrant workers searching for better employment opportunities far away from their native places. However, inherent challenges are far more for the migrant workers, most prominently their Identity. To the best of our knowledge, available literature lacks a comprehensive study on identity management components for user privacy and data protection mechanisms in identity management architecture. Self-Sovereign Identity is regarded as a new evolution in digital identity management systems. Blockchain technology and distributed ledgers bring us closer to realizing an ideal Self-Sovereign Identity system. This paper proposes a novel solution to address identity issues being faced by migrant workers. It also gives a holistic, coherent, and mutually beneficial Identity Management Solution for the migrant workforce in the Indian perspective towards e-Governance and Digital India.
