Since 1980, the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy has been the premier forum for presenting developments in computer security and electronic privacy, and for bringing together researchers and practitioners in the field. The 2014 Symposium will mark the 35thannual meeting of this flagship conference.

The Symposium will be held on May 18-21, 2014 in San Jose, California at The Fairmont.

The 19th European Symposium on Research in Computer Security will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science Wroclaw University of Technology, on September 7-11, 2014. ESORICS is the premier European research conference in computer security. ESORICS started in 1990 and has been held in several European countries, attracting an international audience from both the academic and industrial communities.

This presentation explores the following four statements:

1: Secrecy is no problem.  Authentication is the problem.

2: Security is older and broader than science.

3: Security on its own is simple.  Security in its social context is complex.

4: For a Collaborative Science of Security complexity is a resource, not a limitation.
