The Applied Innovation Center (AIC) aims to develop commercially relevant solutions to real-world problems through the integration of data analysis (data acquisition, communication, processing, and management), cyber-physical systems (real time stream processing, sensor-actuator networks, time-frequency analysis, control solutions), high performance computing (model development, simulation, predictive analysis, model and data interoperability, custom software development), and advanced visualization, prototyping, and tool development (graphics programming, visual analytics, virtual reality and prototyping, 3D printing, decision support tools).

The Technical Lead has the primary responsibility of leading the computational components of AIC projects, providing day-to-day oversight and supervision of relevant activities, and supporting R&D activities. This individual works with the AIC Business Development Lead in identifying new and unique approaches that potentially could catalyze diversification and innovation in core and emerging technologies in the Nevada and greater areas. He or she also helps the AIC Business Development Lead understand the technical feasibility associated with business development opportunities. A primary function of this position is promoting the AIC in commercialization efforts by formulating objectives related to asset development and licensing, interfacing with DRI commercialization entities and private and public sector entities. This individual also manages and supports projects so that work is accomplished to high professional standards and completed on time and on budget, while providing support to existing collaborations and development of new opportunities. The individual hired will also work as a member of a broader team to promote the success of the AIC, interact with DRI researchers, and support external clients with cost effective and timely solutions that best fit the need of the client's projects. This individual will need to assist with translating scientific ideas into practical solutions using the fee-based business model that the AIC is founded upon.

Qualifications:

  • Master's in Science, Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of proven, progressive experience in successfully developing and effectively managing large multi-collaborator projects.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working with High Performance Systems (HPC) systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a science or engineering leadership role with a corresponding experience effectively managing a technical staff.
  • Demonstrated background and knowledge in data analysis, cyber-physical systems, high performance computing and visualization. Experience in developing systems involving all of these components.
  • US Citizenship required

Due to project export control oversight duties and compliance of this position, ALL applicants MUST be citizens of the United States and the finalist will be required to submit to a finger print background check due to the position being security sensitive.
