Scope of the Workshop

Networked Cyber-Physical System (NCPS) includes a set of connected heterogeneous systems ranging from sensors and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices to compute servers and data centers. More specifically, IoT architecture aims to provide smart connectivity not only with existing computers, but also with new context-aware computing resources, extending soon beyond von Neumann devices for the purpose of mining, prediction and control of cyber and physical components. These NCPS not only leads to the accumulation of large amounts of data that can be used to build comprehensive mathematical models, but also raise the quest for real-time analysis and control in diverse application domains such as environmental, healthcare, avionics, smart interconnected automobiles, and smart buildings. With the exponential growth of NCPS, energy consumption is a serious concern. To improve the overall energy-efficiency of the NCPS systems, this workshop will explore foundations of energy-aware computing and communication to meet the QoS requirements of the real-world applications. Since this is a highly-interdisciplinary research topic, the workshop will bring together academic and industrial researchers working in CPS, embedded systems, systems and control, machine learning, and data science to exchange new ideas and results, and future directions on the following (non-exhaustive) list of topics:

  • Energy-aware distributed architectures and communication protocols
  • Adaptive and reconfigurable connectivity among heterogeneous systems
  • Learning predictive models for energy-efficiency
  • Distributed learning and data analysis algorithms to optimize communication energy
  • Frameworks for hardware and software co-design for energy optimization
  • Control mechanisms in smart-grid and smart-city
  • ...
