Siemens CT is seeking a Senior Cyber Physical Systems Research Scientist to be part of our US System Integration Research Group of IT Platforms Technology Field in Princeton NJ. This position reports to the Head, Research Group, System Integration US of the IT Platforms Technology Field.
This Technology Field consists of 8 Research Groups in 4 countries (US, Germany, China and India). We architect and build vertical IT platforms in the areas of Cloud Computing, Mobile Computing including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality systems, cross-domain System of Systems, Smart Embedded Systems, and Social Computing and Collaboration Systems. These platforms are built to become the digital foundations for Siemens products and services created by the various Siemens Business Units.
Responsibilities:
- Innovate next generation cyber physical systems.
- Apply research results to real-world problems (distributed, resilient systems, including real-time aspects) and presentation of results to non-technical audiences.
- Advance the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating patents and publications in top journals and conferences.
- Set-up, manage and execute research projects with top universities agencies. Define research contents based on global CPS R&D strategy, set up project agreements, identify & protect and/or publish novel IP.
- Working with customers to understand problem requirements, creating and delivering solutions to such problems.
- Identification of subsidies & grants opportunities, identification of partners, definition of win-strategies and writing of proposals and serving as PI or Co-PI for multi-year research projects
- Presentation of research results at academic & industrial conferences and to business partner within Siemens.
- Consulting of Siemens R&D divisions with regards to CPS technologies and applications.
- Maintaining and developing internal and external contacts in the CPS research community.
- Working with Siemens BU customers to understand their problems and demands for CPS technologies
Skills & Qualifications:
- PhD in computer science, engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in related field and successful demonstration of key responsibilities
- 2+ years of experience as (Co-) Principal Investigator for a government funded research project or as a project/program manager for medium sized projects in industry or government
- Proven ability to generate and develop new research ideas, demonstrated by publications in leading conferences and journals and acquisition of (public funding) projects
- Strong theoretical and practical background in Software Engineering, Software Architecture and Distributed Systems
- Strong track record of projects in the areas of either smart grids, smart buildings or smart transportation
- Track record of research with proven results in one of the following areas: distributed systems, middleware, blockchain, real-time systems, distributed (control) algorithms, distributed coordination, reliability, resilience & fault tolerance
- Experience with serving as (Co-) PI for government research projects, proposal writing
- Network within the US research community, e.g. leading researchers at universities and government labs, program managers in federal government
- Ability to lead developers/researchers to quickly develop prototype systems
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in global teams
