NCSU SoS Lablet Quarterly Executive Summary
A. Fundamental Research
High level report of result or partial result that helped move security science forward-- In most cases it should point to a "hard problem". These are the most important research accomplishments of the Lablet in the previous quarter.
We started three projects in the NC State Lablet this quarter. In the first quarter, the projects were largely focused on establishing their starting points in terms of updating investigation of the literature; obtaining or setting up development or evaluation frameworks; and conducting preliminary evaluations.
B. Community Engagement(s)
Research interaction in the community including workshops, seminars, competitions, etc.
Three members of the NC State Lablet participated in the kickoff event.
We discussed the Science of Security with colleagues at various conferences that we attended and included information on the science of security in conference presentations.
We are continuing international collaborations on Science of Security and have added a collaboration with a former postdoc, who is now a faculty member in UK.
C. Educational Advances
Impact to courses or curriculum at your school or elsewhere that indicates an increased training or rigor in security research.
We are continuing to include Science of Security materials in our courses, including courses in the upcoming Fall semester for which we have begun preparation. We worked with an REU student (supported from internal funds) for development of a cybersecurity game over the Spring semester.
