In the federated learning system, parameter gradients are shared among participants and the central modulator, while the original data never leave their protected source domain. However, the gradient itself might carry enough information for precise inference of the original data. By reporting their parameter gradients to the central server, client datasets are exposed to inference attacks from adversaries. In this paper, we propose a quantitative metric based on mutual information for clients to evaluate the potential risk of information leakage in their gradients. Mutual information has received increasing attention in the machine learning and data mining community over the past few years. However, existing mutual information estimation methods cannot handle high-dimensional variables. In this paper, we propose a novel method to approximate the mutual information between the high-dimensional gradients and batched input data. Experimental results show that the proposed metric reliably reflect the extent of information leakage in federated learning. In addition, using the proposed metric, we investigate the influential factors of risk level. It is proven that, the risk of information leakage is related to the status of the task model, as well as the inherent data distribution.

Jiao, Jian, Zhao, Haini, Liu, Yong.  2021.  Analysis and Detection of Android Ransomware for Custom Encryption. 2021 IEEE 4th International Conference on Computer and Communication Engineering Technology (CCET). :220–225.
At present, the detection of encrypted ransomware under the Android platform mainly relies on analyzing the API call of the encryption function. But for ransomware that uses a custom encryption algorithm, the method will be invalid. This article analyzed the files before and after encryption by the ransomware, and found that there were obvious changes in the information entropy and file name of the files. Based on this, this article proposed a detection method for encrypted ransomware under the Android platform. Through pre-setting decoy files and the characteristic judgment before and after the execution of the sample to be tested, completed the detection and judgment of the ransomware. Having tested 214 samples, this method can be porved to detect encrypted ransomware accurately under the Android platform, with an accuracy rate of 98.24%.

Chai, Yadeng, Liu, Yong.  2019.  Natural Spoken Instructions Understanding for Robot with Dependency Parsing. 2019 IEEE 9th Annual International Conference on CYBER Technology in Automation, Control, and Intelligent Systems (CYBER). :866–871.
This paper presents a method based on syntactic information, which can be used for intent determination and slot filling tasks in a spoken language understanding system including the spoken instructions understanding module for robot. Some studies in recent years attempt to solve the problem of spoken language understanding via syntactic information. This research is a further extension of these approaches which is based on dependency parsing. In this model, the input for neural network are vectors generated by a dependency parsing tree, which we called window vector. This vector contains dependency features that improves performance of the syntactic-based model. The model has been evaluated on the benchmark ATIS task, and the results show that it outperforms many other syntactic-based approaches, especially in terms of slot filling, it has a performance level on par with some state of the art deep learning algorithms in recent years. Also, the model has been evaluated on FBM3, a dataset of the RoCKIn@Home competition. The overall rate of correctly understanding the instructions for robot is quite good but still not acceptable in practical use, which is caused by the small scale of FBM3.

Tan, Yong Kiam, Xu, Xinxing, Liu, Yong.  2016.  Improved Recurrent Neural Networks for Session-based Recommendations. Proceedings of the 1st Workshop on Deep Learning for Recommender Systems. :17–22.

Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) were recently proposed for the session-based recommendation task. The models showed promising improvements over traditional recommendation approaches. In this work, we further study RNN-based models for session-based recommendations. We propose the application of two techniques to improve model performance, namely, data augmentation, and a method to account for shifts in the input data distribution. We also empirically study the use of generalised distillation, and a novel alternative model that directly predicts item embeddings. Experiments on the RecSys Challenge 2015 dataset demonstrate relative improvements of 12.8% and 14.8% over previously reported results on the Recall@20 and Mean Reciprocal Rank@20 metrics respectively.
