Software Defined Networking (SDN) has emerged as a revolutionary paradigm to manage cloud infrastructure. SDN lacks scalable trust setup and verification mechanism between Data Plane-Control Plane elements, Control Plane elements, and Control Plane-Application Plane. Trust management schemes like Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) used currently in SDN are slow for trust establishment in a larger cloud environment. We propose a distributed trust mechanism - TRUFL to establish and verify trust in SDN. The distributed framework utilizes parallelism in trust management, in effect faster transfer rates and reduced latency compared to centralized trust management. The TRUFL framework scales well with the number of OpenFlow rules when compared to existing research works.

Secure multiparty computation (SMC) is a promising technology for privacy-preserving collaborative computation. In the last years several feasibility studies have shown its practical applicability in different fields. However, it is recognized that administration, and management overhead of SMC solutions are still a problem. A vital next step is the incorporation of SMC in the emerging fields of the Internet of Things and (smart) dynamic environments. In these settings, the properties of these contexts make utilization of SMC even more challenging since some vital premises for its application regarding environmental stability and preliminary configuration are not initially fulfilled. We bridge this gap by providing FlexSMC, a management and orchestration framework for SMC which supports the discovery of nodes, supports a trust establishment between them and realizes robustness of SMC session by handling nodes failures and communication interruptions. The practical evaluation of FlexSMC shows that it enables the application of SMC in dynamic environments with reasonable performance penalties and computation durations allowing soft real-time and interactive use cases.

In the open network environment, the strange entities can establish the mutual trust through Automated Trust Negotiation (ATN) that is based on exchanging digital credentials. In traditional ATN, the attribute certificate required to either satisfied or not, and in the strategy, the importance of the certificate is same, it may cause some unnecessary negotiation failure. And in the actual situation, the properties is not just 0 or 1, it is likely to between 0 and 1, so the satisfaction degree is different, and the negotiation strategy need to be quantified. This paper analyzes the fuzzy negotiation process, in order to improve the trust establishment in high efficiency and accuracy further.

Establishing trust relationships between network participants by having them prove their operating system's integrity via a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) provides interesting approaches for securing local networks at a higher level. In the introduced approach on OSI layer 2, attacks carried out by already authenticated and participating nodes (insider threats) can be detected and prevented. Forbidden activities and manipulations in hard- and software, such as executing unknown binaries, loading additional kernel modules or even inserting unauthorized USB devices, are detected and result in an autonomous reaction of each network participant. The provided trust establishment and authentication protocol operates independently from upper protocol layers and is optimized for resource constrained machines. Well known concepts of backbone architectures can maintain the chain of trust between different kinds of network types. Each endpoint, forwarding and processing unit monitors the internal network independently and reports misbehaviours autonomously to a central instance in or outside of the trusted network.
