Nowadays, children, teens, and almost everyone around us tend to receive abundant and frequent advice regarding the usefulness of syllabification. Not only does it improve pronunciation, but it also makes it easier for us to read unfamiliar words in chunks of syllables rather than reading them all at once. Within this paper, we have designed, implemented, and presented a Turing machine-based syllable splitter. A Turing machine forms the theoretical basis for all modern computers and can be used to solve universal problems. On the other hand, a syllable splitter is used to hyphenate words into their corresponding syllables. We have proposed our work by illustrating the various states of the Turing machine, along with the rules it abides by, its machine specifications, and transition function. In addition to this, we have implemented a Graphical User Interface to stimulate our Turing machine to analyze our results better.

This paper presents SWAT - System-Wide Analysis Toolkit. It is based on open source emulation and debugging projects and implements the approaches for non-intrusive system-wide analysis and debugging: lightweight OS-agnostic virtual machine introspection, full system execution replay, non-intrusive debugging with WinDbg, and full system reverse debugging. These features are based on novel non-intrusive introspection and reverse debugging methods. They are useful for stealth debugging and analysis of the platforms with custom kernels. SWAT includes multi-platform emulator QEMU with additional instrumentation and debugging features, GUI for convenient QEMU setup and execution, QEMU plugin for non-intrusive introspection, and modified version of GDB. Our toolkit may be useful for the developers of the virtual platforms, emulators, and firmwares/drivers/operating systems. Virtual machine intospection approach does not require loading any guest agents and source code of the OS. Therefore it may be applied to ROM-based guest systems and enables using of record/replay of the system execution. This paper includes the description of SWAT components, analysis methods, and some SWAT use cases.

Due to geographical locations of Indonesia, some technology such as hydro and solar photovoltaics are very attractive to be used and developed. Distribution Energy Resources (DER) is the appropriate schemes implemented to achieve optimal operation respecting the location and capacity of the plant. The Gorontalo sub-system network was chosen as a case study considering both of micro-hydro and PV as contributed to supply the grid. The needs of a smart electrical system are required to improve reliability, power quality, and adaptation to any circumstances during DER application. While the topology was changing over time, intermittent of DER output and bidirectional power flow can be overcome with smart grid systems. In this study, an automation algorithm has been conducted to aid the engineers in solving the protection problems caused by DER implementation. The Protection Security Assessment (PSA) method is used to evaluate the state of the protection system. Determine the relay settings using an adaptive rule-based method on expert systems. The application with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed to make user easier to get the specific relay settings and locations which are sensitive, fast, reliable, and selective.

Security for authentication is required to give a superlative secure users' personal information. This paper presents a model of the Graphical password scheme under the impact of security and ease of use for user authentication. We integrate the concept of recognition with re-called and cued-recall based schemes to offer superior security compared to existing schemes. Click Symbols (CS) Alphabet combine into one entity: Alphanumeric (A) and Visual (V) symbols (CS-AV) is Captcha-based password scheme, we integrate it with recall-based n ×n grid points, where a user can draw the shape or pattern by the intersection of the grid points as a way to enter a graphical password. Next scheme, the combination of CS-AV with grid cells allows very large password space ( 2.4 ×104 bits of entropy) and provides reasonable usability results by determining an empirical study of memorable password space. Proposed schemes support most applicable platform for input devices and promising strong resistance to shoulder surfing attacks on a mobile device which can be occurred during unlocking (pattern) the smartphone.

Partitioning security components of IoT devices to enable the use of Trusted Execution Environments adds resilience against side-channel attacks. Devices are hardened against extraction of sensitive information, but at the same time additional effort must be spent for the integration of the TEE and software partitioning. To perform partitioning, the developer typically inserts Remote Procedure Calls into the software. Existing RPC-based solutions require the developer to write Interface Definition Language files to generate RPC stubs. In this work, we present an RPC-based framework that supports software partitioning via a graphical user interface. The framework extracts required information about the interfaces from source-code header files to eliminate the need for IDL files. With this approach the TEE integration time is reduced and reuse of existing libraries is supported. We evaluate a Proof-of-Concept by partitioning a TLS library for IoT devices and compare our approach to other RPC-based solutions.

To detect specific types of bugs and vulnerabilities, static analysis tools must be correctly configured with security-relevant methods (SRM), e.g., sources, sinks, sanitizers and authentication methods-usually a very labour-intensive and error-prone process. This work presents the semi-automated tool SWAN\_ASSIST, which aids the configuration with an IntelliJ plugin based on active machine learning. It integrates our novel automated machine-learning approach SWAN, which identifies and classifies Java SRM. SWAN\_ASSIST further integrates user feedback through iterative learning. SWAN\_ASSIST aids developers by asking them to classify at each point in time exactly those methods whose classification best impact the classification result. Our experiments show that SWAN\_ASSIST classifies SRM with a high precision, and requires a relatively low effort from the user. Cognitive Radio is a prominent solution for effective spectral resource utilization. The rapidly growing device to device (D2D) communications and the next generation networks urge the cognitive radio networks to facilitate wideband spectrum sensing in order to assure newer spectral opportunities. As Nyquist sampling rates are formidable owing to complexity and cost of the ADCs, compressive sampling approaches are becoming increasingly popular. One such approach exploited in this paper is the Modulated Wideband Converter (MWC) to recover the spectral support. On the multiple measurement vector (MMV) framework provided by the MWC, threshold based Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and Sparse Bayesian Learning (SBL) algorithms are employed for support recovery. We develop a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that assists a beginner to simulate the RF front-end of a MWC and thereby enables the user to explore support recovery as a function of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), number of measurement vectors and threshold. The GUI enables the user to explore spectrum sensing in DVB-T, 3G and 4G bands and recovers the support using OMP or SBL approach. The results show that the performance of SBL is better than that of OMP at a lower SNR values.

In pervasive computing, the human-computer interaction emphasizes on information and communication technology and user experience. Now it is possible to communicate scientific and engineering technique informally through leisure activities, for instance aquascaping. It is necessary to keep the aquascape environment fresh and healthy, and the fish have to be feed regularly. This paper proposes an autonomous aquascape preservation system based on Arduino controller connected to a remote Android smartphone. However, it is widely known that the wireless communication is not as reliable as the wired counterpart. An unauthorized party should not be able to take control of the wireless aquascape preservation system. SIMON lightweight cryptography is used to tackle security issues in constrained devices. From experiments result, the DS18B20 sensor is able to measure aquascape temperature precisely with approximately 0.5% tolerance. The Android graphical user interface application is user-friendly. Moreover, the SIMON lightweight encryption SIMON64/128 is able to secure wireless communication channel efficiently with small hardware footprints.

Military reconnaissance in 1999 has paved the way to establish its own, self-reliant and indigenous navigation system. The strategic necessity has been accomplished in 2013 by launching seven satellites in Geo-orbit and underlying Network control center in Bangalore and a new NavIC control center at Lucknow, later in 2016. ISTRAC is one of the premier and amenable center to track the Indian as well as external network satellite launch vehicle and provide house-keeping and inertial navigation (INC) data to launch control center in real time and to project team in off-line. Over the ISTRAC Launch network, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) was disabled due to security and bandwidth reasons. The cons of SNMP comprise security risks that are normal trait whenever applied as an open standard. There is "security through obscurity" linked with any slight-used communications standard in SNMP. Detailed messages are being sent between devices, not just miniature pre-set codes. These cons in the SNMP are found in majority applications and more bandwidth seizure is another contention. Due to the above pros and cones in SNMP in form of open source, available network monitoring system (NMS) could not be employed for link monitoring and immediate decision making in ISTRAC network. The situation has made requisitions to evolve an in-house network monitoring system (NMS). It was evolved for real-time network monitoring as well as communication link performance explication. The evolved system has the feature of Internet control message protocol (ICMP) based link monitoring, 24/7 monitoring of all the nodes, GUI based real-time link status, Summary and individual link statistics on the GUI. It also identifies total downtime and generates summary reports. It does identification for out of order or looped packets, Email and SMS alert to Prime and Redundant system which one is down and repeat alert if the link is failed for more than 30 minutes. It has easy file based configuration and no application restart required. Generation of daily and monthly link status, offline link analysis plot of any day, less consumption of system resources are add-on features. It is fully secured in-house development, calculates total data flow over a network and co-relate data vs link percentage.

To manage and handle the issues of physical security in the modern world, there is a dire need for a multilevel security system to ensure the safety of precious belongings that could be money, military equipment or medical life-saving drugs. Security locker solution is proposed which is a multiple layer security system consisting of various levels of authentication. In most cases, only relevant persons should have access to their precious belongings. The unlocking of the box is only possible when all of the security levels are successfully cleared. The five levels of security include entering of password on interactive GUI, thumbprint, facial recognition, speech pattern recognition, and vein pattern recognition. This project is unique and effective in a sense that it incorporates five levels of security in a single prototype with the use of cost-effective equipment. Assessing our security system, it is seen that security is increased many a fold as it is near to impossible to breach all these five levels of security. The Raspberry Pi microcomputers, handling all the traits efficiently and smartly makes it easy for performing all the verification tasks. The traits used involves checking, training and verifying processes with application of machine learning operations.

One of the basic behavioural biometric methods is keystroke element. Being less expensive and not requiring any extra bit of equipment is the main advantage of keystroke element. The primary concentration of this paper is to give an inevitable review of behavioural biometrics strategies, measurements and different methodologies and difficulties and future bearings specially of keystroke analysis and mouse dynamics. Keystrokes elements frameworks utilize insights, e.g. time between keystrokes, word decisions, word mixes, general speed of writing and so on. Mouse Dynamics is termed as the course of actions captured from the moving mouse by an individual when interacting with a GUI. These are representative factors which may be called mouse dynamics signature of an individual, and may be used for verification of identity of an individual. In this paper, we compare the authentication system based on keystroke dynamics and mouse dynamics.

This paper presents an implementation of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the OpenThread software. OpenThread is a software package for Thread. Thread is a networking protocol for Internet of Things (IoT) designed for home automation. OpenThread package was released by Nest Labs as an open source implementation of the Thread specification v1.1.1. The OpenThread includes IPv6, 6LoWPAN, IEEE 802.15.4 with MAC security, Mesh Link Establishment, and Mesh Routing. OpenThread includes all Thread supported device types and supports both SOC and NCP implementations. OpenThread runs on Linux and allows the users to use it as a simulator with a command line interface. This research is focused on adding a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to the OpenThread. The GUI package is implemented in TCL/Tk (Tool Control Language). OpenThread with a GUI makes working with OpenThread much easier for researchers and students. The GUI also makes it easier to visualize the Thread network and its operations.

The Android mobile platform supports billions of devices across more than 190 countries around the world. This popularity coupled with user data collection by Android apps has made privacy protection a well-known challenge in the Android ecosystem. In practice, app producers provide privacy policies disclosing what information is collected and processed by the app. However, it is difficult to trace such claims to the corresponding app code to verify whether the implementation is consistent with the policy. Existing approaches for privacy policy alignment focus on information directly accessed through the Android platform (e.g., location and device ID), but are unable to handle user input, a major source of private information. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that automatically detects privacy leaks of user-entered data for a given Android app and determines whether such leakage may violate the app's privacy policy claims. For evaluation, we applied our approach to 120 popular apps from three privacy-relevant app categories: finance, health, and dating. The results show that our approach was able to detect 21 strong violations and 18 weak violations from the studied apps.

Security in smartphones has become one of the major concerns, with prolific growth in its usage scenario. Many applications are available for Android users to protect their applications and data. But all these security applications are not easily accessible for persons with disabilities. For persons with color blindness, authentication mechanisms pose user interface related issues. Color blind users find the inaccessible and complex design in the interface difficult to access and interpret mobile locks. This paper focuses on a novel method for providing color and touch sensitivity based dot pattern lock. This Model automatically replaces the existing display style of a pattern lock with a new user preferred color combination. In addition Pressure Gradient Input (PGI) has been incorporated to enhance authentication strength. The feedback collected from users shows that this accessible security application is easy to use without any major access barrier.

In a spectrally congested environment or a spectrally contested environment which often occurs in cyber security applications, multiple signals are often mixed together with significant overlap in spectrum. This makes the signal detection and parameter estimation task very challenging. In our previous work, we have demonstrated the feasibility of using a second order spectrum correlation function (SCF) cyclostationary feature to perform mixed signal detection and parameter estimation. In this paper, we present our recent work on software defined radio (SDR) based implementation and demonstration of such mixed signal detection algorithms. Specifically, we have developed a software defined radio based mixed RF signal generator to generate mixed RF signals in real time. A graphical user interface (GUI) has been developed to allow users to conveniently adjust the number of mixed RF signal components, the amplitude, initial time delay, initial phase offset, carrier frequency, symbol rate, modulation type, and pulse shaping filter of each RF signal component. This SDR based mixed RF signal generator is used to transmit desirable mixed RF signals to test the effectiveness of our developed algorithms. Next, we have developed a software defined radio based mixed RF signal detector to perform the mixed RF signal detection. Similarly, a GUI has been developed to allow users to easily adjust the center frequency and bandwidth of band of interest, perform time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, and cyclostationary domain analysis.

For mobile phone users, short message service (SMS) is the most commonly used text-based communication type on mobile devices. Users can interact with other users and services via SMS. For example, users can send private messages, use information services, apply for a job advertisement, conduct bank transactions, and so on. Users should be very careful when using SMS. During the sending of SMS, the message content should be aware that it can be captured and act accordingly. Based on these findings, the elderly, called as “Silent Generation” which represents 70 years or older adults, are text messaging much more than they did in the past. Therefore, they need solutions which are both simple and secure enough if there is a need to send sensitive information via SMS. In this study, we propose and develop an android application to secure text messages. The application has a simple and easy-to-use graphical user interface but provides significant security.

GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovations) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded program which provides a virtual laboratory for networking and distributed systems research and education. It is well suited for exploring networks at a scale, thereby promoting innovations in network science, security, services and applications. GENI allows researchers obtain compute resources from locations around the United States, connect compute resources using 100G Internet2 L2 service, install custom software or even custom operating systems on these compute resources, control how network switches in their experiment handle traffic flows, and run their own L3 and above protocols. GENI architecture incorporates cloud federation. With the federation, cloud resources can be federated and/or community of clouds can be formed. The heart of federation is user identity and an ability to “advertise” cloud resources into community including compute, storage, and networking. GENI administrators can carve out what resources are available to the community and hence a portion of GENI resources are reserved for internal consumption. GENI architecture also provides “stitching” of compute and storage resources researchers request. This provides L2 network domain over Internet2's 100G network. And researchers can run their Software Defined Networking (SDN) controllers on the provisioned L2 network domain for a complete control of networking traffic. This capability is useful for large science data transfer (bypassing security devices for high throughput). Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI), a research institute in the state of North Carolina, has developed ORCA (Open Resource Control Architecture), a GENI control framework. ORCA is a distributed resource orchestration system to serve science experiments. ORCA provides compute resources as virtual machines and as well as baremetals. ORCA based GENI ra- k was designed to serve both High Throughput Computing (HTC) and High Performance Computing (HPC) type of computes. Although, GENI is primarily used in various universities and research entities today, GENI architecture can be leveraged in the commercial, aerospace and government settings. This paper will go over the architecture of GENI and discuss the GENI architecture for scientific computing experiments.

Segmentation of land and water regions is necessary in many applications involving analysis of remote sensing imagery. Not only is manual segmentation of these regions prone to considerable subjective variability, but the large volume of imagery collected by modern platforms makes manual segmentation extremely tedious to perform, particularly in applications that require frequent re-measurement. This paper examines a robust, semi-automated approach that utilizes simple and efficient machine learning algorithms to perform supervised classification of multi-spectral image data into land and water regions. By combining the four wavelength bands widely available in imaging platforms such as IKONOS, QuickBird, and GeoEye-1 with basic texture metrics, high quality segmentation can be achieved. An efficient workflow was created by constructing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to these machine learning algorithms.

User authentication depends largely on the concept of passwords. However, users find it difficult to remember alphanumerical passwords over time. When user is required to choose a secure password, they tend to choose an easy, short and insecure password. Graphical password method is proposed as an alternative solution to text-based alphanumerical passwords. The reason of such proposal is that human brain is better in recognizing and memorizing pictures compared to traditional alphanumerical string. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a conceptual framework to better understand the user performance for new high-end graphical password method. Our proposed framework is based on hybrid approach combining different features into one. The user performance experimental analysis pointed out the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Aside from massive advantages in safety and convenience on the road, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) introduce security risks to the users. Proposals of new security concepts to counter these risks are challenging to verify because of missing real world implementations of VANETs. To fill this gap, we introduce VANETsim, an event-driven simulation platform, specifically designed to investigate application-level privacy and security implications in vehicular communications. VANETsim focuses on realistic vehicular movement on real road networks and communication between the moving nodes. A powerful graphical user interface and an experimentation environment supports the user when setting up or carrying out experiments.

The paper presents a secure solution that provides VoIP service for mobile users, handling both pre-call and mid-call mobility. Pre-call mobility is implemented using a presence server that acts as a DNS for the moving users. Our approach also detects any change in the attachment point of the moving users and transmits it to the peer entity by in band signaling using socket communications. For true mid-call mobility we also employ buffering techniques that store packets for the duration of the signaling procedure. The solution was implemented for Android devices and it uses ASP technology for the server part.

Mobile security is as critical as the PIN number on our ATM card or the lock on our front door. More than our phone itself, the information inside needs safeguarding as well. Not necessarily for scams, but just peace of mind. Android seems to have attracted the most attention from malicious code writers due to its popularity. The flexibility to freely download apps and content has fueled the explosive growth of smart phones and mobile applications but it has also introduced a new risk factor. Malware can mimic popular applications and transfer contacts, photos and documents to unknown destination servers. There is no way to disable the application stores on mobile operating systems. Fortunately for end-users, our smart phones are fundamentally open devices however they can quite easily be hacked. Enterprises now provide business applications on these devices. As a result, confidential business information resides on employee-owned device. Once an employee quits, the mobile operating system wipe-out is not an optimal solution as it will delete both business and personal data. Here we propose H-Secure application for mobile security where one can store their confidential data and files in encrypted form. The encrypted file and encryption key are stored on a web server so that unauthorized person cannot access the data. If user loses the mobile then he can login into web and can delete the file and key to stop further decryption process.
