Panetta, J., Filho, P. R. P. S., Laranjeira, L. A. F., Teixeira, C. A..  2017.  Scalability of CPU and GPU Solutions of the Prime Elliptic Curve Discrete Logarithm Problem. 2017 29th International Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing (SBAC-PAD). :33–40.

Elliptic curve asymmetric cryptography has achieved increased popularity due to its capability of providing comparable levels of security as other existing cryptographic systems while requiring less computational work. Pollard Rho and Parallel Collision Search, the fastest known sequential and parallel algorithms for breaking this cryptographic system, have been successfully applied over time to break ever-increasing bit-length system instances using implementations heavily optimized for the available hardware. This work presents portable, general implementations of a Parallel Collision Search based solution for prime elliptic curve asymmetric cryptographic systems that use publicly available big integer libraries and make no assumption on prime curve properties. It investigates which bit-length keys can be broken in reasonable time by a user that has access to a state of the art, public HPC equipment with CPUs and GPUs. The final implementation breaks a 79-bit system in about two hours using 80 GPUs and 94-bits system in about 15 hours using 256 GPUs. Extensive experimentation investigates scalability of CPU, GPU and CPU+GPU runs. The discussed results indicate that speed-up is not a good metric for parallel scalability. This paper proposes and evaluates a new metric that is better suited for this task.

Shafee, S., Rajaei, B..  2017.  A secure steganography algorithm using compressive sensing based on HVS feature. 2017 Seventh International Conference on Emerging Security Technologies (EST). :74–78.

Steganography is the science of hiding information to send secret messages using the carrier object known as stego object. Steganographic technology is based on three principles including security, robustness and capacity. In this paper, we present a digital image hidden by using the compressive sensing technology to increase security of stego image based on human visual system features. The results represent which our proposed method provides higher security in comparison with the other presented methods. Bit Correction Rate between original secret message and extracted message is used to show the accuracy of this method.

In this paper a novel set-theoretic control framework for Cyber-Physical Systems is presented. By resorting to set-theoretic ideas, an anomaly detector module and a control remediation strategy are formally derived with the aim to contrast cyber False Data Injection (FDI) attacks affecting the communication channels. The resulting scheme ensures Uniformly Ultimate Boundedness and constraints fulfillment regardless of any admissible attack scenario.

Slimane, N. B., Bouallegue, K., Machhout, M..  2017.  A novel image encryption scheme using chaos, hyper-chaos systems and the secure Hash algorithm SHA-1. 2017 International Conference on Control, Automation and Diagnosis (ICCAD). :141–145.

In this paper, we introduce a fast, secure and robust scheme for digital image encryption using chaotic system of Lorenz, 4D hyper-chaotic system and the Secure Hash Algorithm SHA-1. The encryption process consists of three layers: sub-vectors confusion and two-diffusion process. In the first layer we divide the plainimage into sub-vectors then, the position of each one is changed using the chaotic index sequence generated with chaotic attractor of Lorenz, while the diffusion layers use hyper-chaotic system to modify the values of pixels using an XOR operation. The results of security analysis such as statistical tests, differential attacks, key space, key sensitivity, entropy information and the running time are illustrated and compared to recent encryption schemes where the highest security level and speed are improved.

Radhika, K. R., Nalini, M. K..  2017.  Biometric Image Encryption Using DNA Sequences and Chaotic Systems. 2017 International Conference on Recent Advances in Electronics and Communication Technology (ICRAECT). :164–168.

Emerging communication technologies in distributed network systems require transfer of biometric digital images with high security. Network security is identified by the changes in system behavior which is either Dynamic or Deterministic. Performance computation is complex in dynamic system where cryptographic techniques are not highly suitable. Chaotic theory solves complex problems of nonlinear deterministic system. Several chaotic methods are combined to get hyper chaotic system for more security. Chaotic theory along with DNA sequence enhances security of biometric image encryption. Implementation proves the encrypted image is highly chaotic and resistant to various attacks.

In recent years, the chaos based cryptographic algorithms have enabled some new and efficient ways to develop secure image encryption techniques. In this paper, we propose a new approach for image encryption based on chaotic maps in order to meet the requirements of secure image encryption. The chaos based image encryption technique uses simple chaotic maps which are very sensitive to original conditions. Using mixed chaotic maps which works based on simple substitution and transposition techniques to encrypt the original image yields better performance with less computation complexity which in turn gives high crypto-secrecy. The initial conditions for the chaotic maps are assigned and using that seed only the receiver can decrypt the message. The results of the experimental, statistical analysis and key sensitivity tests show that the proposed image encryption scheme provides an efficient and secure way for image encryption.

Shyamala, N., Anusudha, K..  2017.  Reversible Chaotic Encryption Techniques For Images. 2017 Fourth International Conference on Signal Processing, Communication and Networking (ICSCN). :1–5.

Image encryption takes been used by armies and governments to help top-secret communication. Nowadays, this one is frequently used for guarding info among various civilian systems. To perform secure image encryption by means of various chaotic maps, in such system a legal party may perhaps decrypt the image with the support of encryption key. This reversible chaotic encryption technique makes use of Arnold's cat map, in which pixel shuffling offers mystifying the image pixels based on the number of iterations decided by the authorized image owner. This is followed by other chaotic encryption techniques such as Logistic map and Tent map, which ensures secure image encryption. The simulation result shows the planned system achieves better NPCR, UACI, MSE and PSNR respectively.

In this paper a random number generation method based on a piecewise linear one dimensional (PL1D) discrete time chaotic maps is proposed for applications in cryptography and steganography. Appropriate parameters are determined by examining the distribution of underlying chaotic signal and random number generator (RNG) is numerically verified by four fundamental statistical test of FIPS 140-2. Proposed design is practically realized on the field programmable analog and digital arrays (FPAA-FPGA). Finally it is experimentally verified that the presented RNG fulfills the NIST 800-22 randomness test without post processing.

The presented work of this paper is to propose the implementation of chaotic crypto-system with the new key generator using chaos in digital filter for data encryption and decryption. The chaos in digital filter of the second order system is produced by the coefficients which are initialed in the key generator to produce other new coefficients. Private key system using the initial coefficients value condition and dynamic input as password of 16 characters is to generate the coefficients for crypto-system. In addition, we have tension specifically to propose the solution of data security in lightweight cryptography based on external and internal key in which conducts with the appropriate key sensitivity plus high performance. The chaos in digital filter has functioned as the main major in the system. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed data encryption with new key generator system is the high sensitive system with accuracy key test 99% and can make data more secure with high performance.

Kar, N., Aman, M. A. A. A., Mandal, K., Bhattacharya, B..  2017.  Chaos-based video steganography. 2017 8th International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT). :482–487.

In this paper a novel data hiding method has been proposed which is based on Non-Linear Feedback Shift Register and Tinkerbell 2D chaotic map. So far, the major work in Steganography using chaotic map has been confined to image steganography where significant restrictions are there to increase payload. In our work, 2D chaotic map and NLFSR are used to developed a video steganography mechanism where data will be embedded in the segregated frames. This will increase the data hiding limit exponentially. Also, embedding position of each frame will be different from others frames which will increase the overall security of the proposed mechanism. We have achieved this randomized data hiding points by using a chaotic map. Basically, Chaotic theory which is non-linear dynamics physics is using in this era in the field of Cryptography and Steganography and because of this theory, little bit changes in initial condition makes the output totally different. So, it is very hard to get embedding position of data without knowing the initial value of the chaotic map.

The chaotic system and cryptography have some common features. Due to the close relationship between chaotic system and cryptosystem, researchers try to combine the chaotic system with cryptosystem. In this study, security analysis of an encryption algorithm which aims to encrypt the data with ECG signals and chaotic functions was performed using the Logistic map in text encryption and Henon map in image encryption. In the proposed algorithm, text and image data can be encrypted at the same time. In addition, ECG signals are used to determine the initial conditions and control parameters of the chaotic functions used in the algorithm to personalize of the encryption algorithm. In this cryptanalysis study, the inadequacy of the mentioned process and the weaknesses of the proposed method have been determined. Encryption algorithm has not sufficient capacity to provide necessary security level of key space and secret key can be obtained with only one plaintext/ciphertext pair with chosen-plaintext attack.

Wang, Y., Kang, S., Lan, C., Liang, Y., Zhu, J., Gao, H..  2016.  A five-dimensional chaotic system with a large parameter range and the circuit implementation of a time-switched system. 2016 11th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety (ICRMS). :1–6.

To enhance the encryption and anti-translation capability of the information, we constructed a five-dimensional chaotic system. Combined with the Lü system, a time-switched system with multiple chaotic attractors is realized in the form of a digital circuit. Some characteristics of the five-dimensional system are analyzed, such as Poincare mapping, the Lyapunov exponent spectrum, and bifurcation diagram. The analysis shows that the system exhibits chaotic characteristics for a wide range of parameter values. We constructed a time-switched expression between multiple chaotic attractors using the communication between a microcontroller unit (MCU) and field programmable gate array (FPGA). The system can quickly switch between different chaotic attractors within the chaotic system and between chaotic systems at any time, leading to signal sources with more variability, diversity, and complexity for chaotic encryption.

In this paper, we propose a new color image encryption and compression algorithm based on the DNA complementary rule and the Chinese remainder theorem, which combines the DNA complementary rule with quantum chaotic map. We use quantum chaotic map and DNA complementary rule to shuffle the color image and obtain the shuffled image, then Chinese remainder theorem from number theory is utilized to diffuse and compress the shuffled image simultaneously. The security analysis and experiment results show that the proposed encryption algorithm has large key space and good encryption result, it also can resist against common attacks.

The extremely rapid development of the Internet of Things brings growing attention to the information security issue. Realization of cryptographically strong pseudo random number generators (PRNGs), is crucial in securing sensitive data. They play an important role in cryptography and in network security applications. In this paper, we realize a comparative study of two pseudo chaotic number generators (PCNGs). The First pseudo chaotic number generator (PCNG1) is based on two nonlinear recursive filters of order one using a Skew Tent map (STmap) and a Piece-Wise Linear Chaotic map (PWLCmap) as non linear functions. The second pseudo chaotic number generator (PCNG2) consists of four coupled chaotic maps, namely: PWLCmaps, STmap, Logistic map by means a binary diffusion matrix [D]. A comparative analysis of the performance in terms of computation time (Generation time, Bit rate and Number of needed cycles to generate one byte) and security of the two PCNGs is carried out.

In recent years, more and more multimedia data are generated and transmitted in various fields. So, many encryption methods for multimedia content have been put forward to satisfy various applications. However, there are still some open issues. Each encryption method has its advantages and drawbacks. Our main goal is expected to provide a solution for multimedia encryption which satisfies the target application constraints and performs metrics of the encryption algorithm. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is the most popular algorithm used in symmetric key cryptography. Furthermore, chaotic encryption is a new research direction of cryptography which is characterized by high initial-value sensitivity and good randomness. In this paper we propose a hybrid video cryptosystem which combines two encryption techniques. The proposed cryptosystem realizes the video encryption through the chaos and AES in CTR mode. Experimental results and security analysis demonstrate that this cryptosystem is highly efficient and a robust system for video encryption.

T, Baby H., R, Sujatha B..  2016.  Chaos based Combined Multiple Recursive KEY Generator for Crypto-Systems. 2016 2nd International Conference on Applied and Theoretical Computing and Communication Technology (iCATccT). :411–415.

With the ever increasing growth of internet usage, ensuring high security for information has gained great importance, due to the several threats in the communication channels. Hence there is continuous research towards finding a suitable approach to ensure high security for the information. In recent decades, cryptography is being used extensively for providing security on the Internet although primarily used in the military and diplomatic communities. One such approach is the application of Chaos theory in cryptosystems. In this work, we have proposed the usage of combined multiple recursive generator (CMRG) for KEY generation based on a chaotic function to generate different multiple keys. It is seen that negligible difference in parameters of chaotic function generates completely different keys as well as cipher text. The main motive for developing the chaos based cryptosystem is to attain encryption that provides high security at comparatively higher speed but with lower complexity and cost over the conventional encryption algorithms.

Hassene, S., Eddine, M. N..  2016.  A new hybrid encryption technique permuting text and image based on hyperchaotic system. 2016 2nd International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Signal and Image Processing (ATSIP). :63–68.

This paper proposes a new hybrid technique for combined encryption text and image based on hyperchaos system. Since antiquity, man has continued looking for ways to send messages to his correspondents in order to communicate with them safely. It needed, through successive epochs, both physical and intellectual efforts in order to find an effective and appropriate communication technique. On another note, there is a behavior between the rigid regularity and randomness. This behavior is called chaos. In fact, it is a new field of investigation that is opened along with a new understanding of the frequently misunderstood long effects. The chaotic cryptography is thus born by inclusion of chaos in encryption algorithms. This article is in this particular context. Its objective is to create and implement an encryption algorithm based on a hyperchaotic system. This algorithm is composed of four methods: two for encrypting images and two for encrypting texts. The user chose the type of the input of the encryption (image or text) and as well as of the output. This new algorithm is considered a renovation in the science of cryptology, with the hybrid methods. This research opened a new features.

After a brief introduction on optical chaotic cryptography, we compare the standard short cavity, close-loop, two-laser and three-laser schemes for secure transmission, showing that both are suitable for secure data exchange, the three-laser scheme offering a slightly better level of privacy, due to its symmetrical topology.

Kharel, R., Raza, U., Ijaz, M., Ekpo, S., Busawon, K..  2016.  Chaotic secure digital communication scheme using auxiliary systems. 2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP). :1–6.

In this paper, we present a new secure message transmission scheme using hyperchaotic discrete primary and auxiliary chaotic systems. The novelty lies on the use of auxiliary chaotic systems for the encryption purposes. We have used the modified Henon hyperchaotic discrete-time system. The use of the auxiliary system allows generating the same keystream in the transmitter and receiver side and the initial conditions in the auxiliary systems combined with other transmitter parameters suffice the role of the key. The use of auxiliary systems will mean that the information of keystream used in the encryption function will not be present on the transmitted signal available to the intruders, hence the reconstructing of the keystream will not be possible. The encrypted message is added on to the dynamics of the transmitter using inclusion technique and the dynamical left inversion technique is employed to retrieve the unknown message. The simulation results confirm the robustness of the method used and some comments are made about the key space from the cryptographic viewpoint.

Sun, D. Z., Xu, G. Q..  2017.  One-Round Provably Secure Yoking-Proof for RFID Applications. 2017 IEEE Trustcom/BigDataSE/ICESS. :315–322.

Under the Internet of Things (IoT), the coexistence proof of multiple RFID tagged objects becomes a very useful mechanism in many application areas such as health care, evidences in court, and stores. The yoking-proof scheme addresses this issue. However, all existing yoking-proof schemes require two or more rounds communication to generate the yoking-proof. In this paper, we investigate the design of one-round yoking-proof schemes. Our contributions are threefold: (1) to confirm the coexistence of the RFID tag pair, we propose a one-round offline yoking-proof scheme with privacy protection. (2) We define a privacy model of the yoking-proof scheme and enhance Moriyama's security model for the yoking-proof scheme. The security and the privacy of the proposed scheme are proved under our models. (3) We further extend the yoking-proof scheme for the coexistence of m RFID tags, where m\textbackslashtextgreater2. The extended scheme maintains one-round. In addition, the proposed technique has efficiency advantage, compared with previous work.

Comon, H., Koutsos, A..  2017.  Formal Computational Unlinkability Proofs of RFID Protocols. 2017 IEEE 30th Computer Security Foundations Symposium (CSF). :100–114.

We set up a framework for the formal proofs of RFID protocols in the computational model. We rely on the so-called computationally complete symbolic attacker model. Our contributions are: 1) to design (and prove sound) axioms reflecting the properties of hash functions (Collision-Resistance, PRF). 2) to formalize computational unlinkability in the model. 3) to illustrate the method, providing the first formal proofs of unlinkability of RFID protocols, in the omputational model.

Radio Frequency IDentification(RFID) is one of the most important sensing techniques for Internet of Things(IoT) and RFID systems have been applied to various different fields. But an RFID system usually uses open wireless radio wave to communicate and this will lead to a serious threat to its privacy and security. The current popular RFID tags are some low-cost passive tags. Their computation and storage resources are very limited. It is not feasible for them to complete some complicated cryptographic operations. So it is very difficult to protect the security and privacy of an RFID system. Lightweight authentication protocol is considered as an effective approach. Many typical authentication protocols usually use Hash functions so that they require more computation and storage resources. Based on CRC function, we propose a lightweight RFID authentication protocol, which needs less computation and storage resources than Hash functions. This protocol exploits an on-chip CRC function and a pseudorandom number generator to ensure the anonymity and freshness of communications between reader and tag. It provides forward security and confidential communication. It can prevent eavesdropping, location trace, replay attack, spoofing and DOS-attack effectively. It is very suitable to be applied to RFID systems.

Althamary, I. A., El-Alfy, E. S. M..  2017.  A more secure scheme for CAPTCHA-based authentication in cloud environment. 2017 8th International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT). :405–411.

Cloud computing is a remarkable model for permitting on-demand network access to an elastic collection of configurable adaptive resources and features including storage, software, infrastructure, and platform. However, there are major concerns about security-related issues. A very critical security function is user authentication using passwords. Although many flaws have been discovered in password-based authentication, it remains the most convenient approach that people continue to utilize. Several schemes have been proposed to strengthen its effectiveness such as salted hashes, one-time password (OTP), single-sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA). This study proposes a new authentication mechanism by combining user's password and modified characters of CAPTCHA to generate a passkey. The modification of the CAPTCHA depends on a secret agreed upon between the cloud provider and the user to employ different characters for some characters in the CAPTCHA. This scheme prevents various attacks including short-password attack, dictionary attack, keylogger, phishing, and social engineering. Moreover, it can resolve the issue of password guessing and the use of a single password for different cloud providers.

The inherent nature of unattended sensors makes these devices most vulnerable to detection, exploitation, and denial in contested environments. Physical access is often cited as the easiest way to compromise any device or network. A new mechanism for mitigating these types of attacks developed under the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, ASD(R&E) project, “Smoke Screen in Cyberspace”, was previously demonstrated in a live, over-the-air experiment. Smoke Screen encrypts, slices up, and disburses redundant fragments of files throughout the network. This paper describes enhancements to the disbursement of the file fragments routing improving the efficiency and time to completion of fragment distribution by defining the exact route, fragments should take to the destination. This is the first step in defining a custom protocol for the discovery of participating nodes and the efficient distribution of fragments in a mobile network. Future work will focus on the movement of fragments to avoid traffic analysis and avoid the collection of the entire fragment set that would enable an adversary to reconstruct the original piece of data.

As a plethora of wearable devices are being introduced, significant concerns exist on the privacy and security of personal data stored on these devices. Expanding on recent works of using electrocardiogram (ECG) as a modality for biometric authentication, in this work, we investigate the possibility of using personal ECG signals as the individually unique source for physical unclonable function (PUF), which eventually can be used as the key for encryption and decryption engines. We present new signal processing and machine learning algorithms that learn and extract maximally different ECG features for different individuals and minimally different ECG features for the same individual over time. Experimental results with a large 741-subject in-house ECG database show that the distributions of the intra-subject (same person) Hamming distance of extracted ECG features and the inter-subject Hamming distance have minimal overlap. 256-b random numbers generated from the ECG features of 648 (out of 741) subjects pass the NIST randomness tests.
