AbstractThe adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology is increasing at a fast rate. With improving software technologies and growing security threats, there is always a need to upgrade the firmware in the IoT devices. Digital signatures are an integral part of digital communication to cope with the threat of these devices being exploited by attackers to run malicious commands, codes or patches on them. Digital Signatures measure the authenticity of the transmitted data as well as are a source of record keeping (repudiation). This study proposes the adoption of Lamport signature scheme, which is quantum resistant, for authentication of data transmission and its feasibility in IoT devices.
