Bogazici University (http://www.boun.edu.tr/) is a top ranking public university that was founded in 1863. Initially established with the name Robert College, it is the first American higher education institution founded outside the United States, later integrating into the Turkish Higher education system with its new name in 1971. The administrative and academic quality is recognized and approved by the European University Association (EUA). The official educational language is English, and it maintains broad international educational exchange programs, with significant number of international students on campus. BOUN has over 570 faculty members, and among these, 70% of faculty members have received their Ph.D. degrees from internationally recognized prestigious academic institutions. The total amount of funding allocated to research from the own budget of the university has been increased six times over the last decade. The total number of scientific publications has increased by 12% annually over the last five years.

Department of Computer Engineering (CmpE) is part of the Faculty of Engineering. CmpE, with its 20 full-time faculty members. The undergraduate program admit the most brilliant students, who score in the top 350 among 1.5 million high school graduates in the nation-wide centralized University Entrance Exam. With approximately 200 graduate students, enrolled in 2-year Master of Science (with thesis) and PhD programs, CmpE has one of the largest graduate program in Turkey.

The faculty members are expected to offer 2 courses per semester, supervise MSc and PhD students, acquire external funds for research from European Union Framework programs and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
