SCIENTIST (M/F/D) - ARCHITECTURE ANALYSIS AND OPTIMIZATION FOR CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS

fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. Shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. www.fortiss.org

Scientists (m/f/d) – Architecture Analysis and Optimization for Cyber-Physical Systems

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct application-focused research in one of the leading research groups on model based systems engineering
  • Advance the state of the art in model-based architecture analysis and optimization for cyber-physical systems
  • Contribute to trend-setting solutions for the upcoming challenges in engineering of safety critical systems such as researching more flexible and agile development approaches
  • Develop research prototypes and transfer the research results to solve important industrial challenges in direct collaboration with our industry partners in the automotive, aerospace, or automation domain
  • Disseminate contemporary research results with high-quality publications in leading, internationally recognized scientific journals in the fields of Software & Systems Engineering
  • Act as a competent research partner and contact person for our application partners
  • Contribute to the development of the institute in the respective areas of expertise

What we expect:

  • Outstanding university degree (M.Sc. and/or PhD) in computer science or electrical engineering with a specialization on Software and/or Systems Engineering; e.g. model-based systems engineering, dependable and adaptive system architectures, testing/verification
  • Experience in Software & Systems Engineering research reflected in scientific publications and / or professional engagement in the relevant international research communities are an advantage
  • Experience with formal methods for the analysis, synthesis or optimization of models is an advantage
  • Self-initiative, commitment, goal orientation and willingness to perform and to considerably exceed the state-of-the-practice
  • Thrive for producing leading results and enthusiasm and excellent implementation skills for creating software-based solutions to tackle important challenges
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Very good knowledge of English and German in both spoken and written form
