PCAST report to the President on "Immediate Opportunities for Strengthening the Nation's Cybersecurity"
On November 22, 2013, PCAST ( PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL OF ADVISORS ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY) released a report to the President on "Immediate Opportunities for Strengthening the Nation's Cybersecurity."
PCAST is an advisory group of the nation's leading scientists and engineers who directly advise the President and the Executive Office of the President. PCAST makes policy recommendations in the many areas where understanding of science, technology, and innovation is key to strengthening our economy and forming policy that works for the American people.
PCAST's report can be summarized by one overarching finding and six additional numbered findings. Recommendations follow from each of those six. The main report text gives background and further elaboration.
Overarching Finding: Cybersecurity will not be achieved by a collection of static precautions that, if taken by Government and industry organizations, will make them secure. Rather, it requires a set of processes that continuously couple information about an evolving threat to defensive reactions and responses.
