The objective of this research is an injection of new modeling techniques into the area of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs). The approach is to design new architectures for domainspecific modeling tools in order to permit feedback from analysis, validation, and verification engines to influence how CPSs are designed. This project outlines new research into the integration of existing, heterogeneous modeling languages in order to address problems in CPS design, rather than a single language used to design any CPS.

Cybersecurity and resiliency of the power grid is of paramount importance to national security and economic well-being. CPS security testbeds are enabling technologies that provide realistic experimental platforms for the evaluation and validation of security technologies within controlled environments. In this regard, the following are the key objectives of the project:

The objective of this project is to develop a science of integration for cyber-physical systems (CPS). The proposed research program has three focus areas: (1) foundations, (2) tools and tool architectures, (3) systems/experimental research. The project has pushed along several frontiers towards these overall objectives. In the following, we describe selected accomplishments:

Abstract:
One of the challenges for the future cyber-physical systems is the exploration of large design spaces. Genetic algorithms (GAs), which embody a simplified computational model of the mutation and election mechanisms of natural evolution, are known to be effective for design optimization. However, the traditional formulations are limited to choosing values for a predetermined set of parameters within a given fixed architecture.

Abstract:
This poster presents progress of the synergistic framework and algorithms development for a group sensors to collaborate in disaster scenarios. A number of fundamental research results were obtained on scene understanding in a network of visual sensors. These were experimentally evaluated, and datasets and results from these evaluations have been released to the community.

Abstract:
Recent progress in battery technology has made it possible to use batteries to power various physical platforms, such as ground/air/water vehicles. These platforms require hundreds/thousands of battery cells to meet their power and energy needs. Of these, automobiles, locomotives, and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) face the most stringent environmental challenges.
