Visible to the public RAPID: Understanding and Preventing Scam on Craigslist

This research develops a data set of postings on Craigslist during the mid-November to late December 2010 time period. The purpose of the data set is to support subsequent analysis for evidence of "scams" -- fraudulent postings. The dataset will provide a basis for testing algorithms for automatic scam identification. Such scams are expected to be most common during the high volume period targeted for collection.

Visible to the public RAPID: Secure Bulletin Boards and Absentee Voting in Real-World Independently-Verifiable Elections

The City of Takoma Park, MD made election history in November 2009 by holding the first independently-verifiable secret-ballot public election. Voters could, for the first time anywhere in the world, independently audit a secret-ballot governmental election using the Scantegrity voting system. This project improves on two aspects of the system used by Takoma Park in 2009. First, it provides an absentee voting protocol, Remotegrity, which enables absentee voters to benefit from the system?s verifiability properties.

Visible to the public RAPID: Cyberdata Privacy Concerns by Organizations at the Canada-U.S. Border

Organizations in the U.S. and Canada collaborate extensively in collecting and sharing various types of cyberdata for purposes of border security, environmental management, economic production, health protection, and other shared goals. Organizations of all major types--governmental, private-sector, and non-profit (or NGO)--have responsibilities that involve major coordination with cross-border network partners. Recent revelations about privacy breaches have led to concerns on both sides of the border about cyberdata privacy and security.
