Nguyen, Bien-Cuong, Pham, Cong-Kha.  2022.  A Combined Blinding-Shuffling Online Template Attacks Countermeasure Based on Randomized Domain Montgomery Multiplication. 2022 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE). :1—6.
Online template attacks (OTA), high-efficiency side-channel attacks, are initially presented to attack the elliptic curve scalar. The modular exponentiation is similarly vulnerable to OTA. The correlation between modular multiplication's intermediate products is a crucial leakage of the modular exponent. This paper proposed a practical OTA countermeasure based on randomized domain Montgomery multiplication, which combines blinding and shuffling methods to eliminate the correlation between modular multiplication's inner products without additional computation requirements. The proposed OTA countermeasure is implemented on the Sakura-G board with a suppose that the target board and template board are identical. The experiment results show that the proposed countermeasure is sufficient to protect the modular exponentiation from OTA.

Despite the strict measures taken by authorities for children safety, crime against children is increasing. To curb this crime, it is important to improve the safety of children. School authorities can be severely penalized for these incidents, hence monitoring the school bus is significantly important in limiting these incidents. The developing worry of families for the security and insurance of their kids has started incredible interest in creating strong frameworks that give successful following and oversight of kids driving among home and school. Coordinated transport following permits youngsters to partake more in their normal schoolwork longer than trusting that a transport will be late with the assistance of notice and guarantees the security of every understudy. These days, reacting to the necessities existing apart from everything else, numerous instructive foundations have begun to push more towards a compelling global positioning framework of their vehicles that ensures the wellbeing of their understudies. Effective transport following is accomplished by procuring the geographic directions utilizing the GPS module and communicating the informationto a distant server. The framework depends on prepared to-utilize inactive RFID peruses. Make a message pop-up from the server script subsequent to checking the understudy's RFID tag be. The RFID examine exhibiting that the understudy boarded the vehicle to the specific trained professionals and the parent. Successful transport following permits school specialists, guardians, and drivers to precisely design their schedules while protecting kids from the second they get on until they get off the transport. The framework overall makes it conceivable to educate the administration regarding crises or protests. A variety of reports can be generated for different school-wide real-time bus and vehicle activities. This paper reviews the various smart security transport systems proposed for providing security features.

Saranya, K., Valarmathi, Dr. A..  2022.  A Comparative Study on Machine Learning based Cross Layer Security in Internet of Things (IoT). 2022 International Conference on Automation, Computing and Renewable Systems (ICACRS). :267—273.
The Internet of Things is a developing technology that converts physical objects into virtual objects connected to the internet using wired and wireless network architecture. Use of cross-layer techniques in the internet of things is primarily driven by the high heterogeneity of hardware and software capabilities. Although traditional layered architecture has been effective for a while, cross-layer protocols have the potential to greatly improve a number of wireless network characteristics, including bandwidth and energy usage. Also, one of the main concerns with the internet of things is security, and machine learning (ML) techniques are thought to be the most cuttingedge and viable approach. This has led to a plethora of new research directions for tackling IoT's growing security issues. In the proposed study, a number of cross-layer approaches based on machine learning techniques that have been offered in the past to address issues and challenges brought on by the variety of IoT are in-depth examined. Additionally, the main issues are mentioned and analyzed, including those related to scalability, interoperability, security, privacy, mobility, and energy utilization.

Abraham, Jacob, Ehret, Alan, Kinsy, Michel A..  2022.  A Compiler for Transparent Namespace-Based Access Control for the Zeno Architecture. 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Secure and Private Execution Environment Design (SEED). :1–10.
With memory safety and security issues continuing to plague modern systems, security is rapidly becoming a first class priority in new architectures and competes directly with performance and power efficiency. The capability-based architecture model provides a promising solution to many memory vulnerabilities by replacing plain addresses with capabilities, i.e., addresses and related metadata. A key advantage of the capability model is compatibility with existing code bases. Capabilities can be implemented transparently to a programmer, i.e., without source code changes. Capabilities leverage semantics in source code to describe access permissions but require customized compilers to translate the semantics to their binary equivalent. In this work, we introduce a complete capabilityaware compiler toolchain for such secure architectures. We illustrate the compiler construction with a RISC-V capability-based architecture, called Zeno. As a securityfocused, large-scale, global shared memory architecture, Zeno implements a Namespace-based capability model for accesses. Namespace IDs (NSID) are encoded with an extended addressing model to associate them with access permission metadata elsewhere in the system. The NSID extended addressing model requires custom compiler support to fully leverage the protections offered by Namespaces. The Zeno compiler produces code transparently to the programmer that is aware of Namespaces and maintains their integrity. The Zeno assembler enables custom Zeno instructions which support secure memory operations. Our results show that our custom toolchain moderately increases the binary size compared to nonZeno compilation. We find the minimal overhead incurred by the additional NSID management instructions to be an acceptable trade-off for the memory safety and security offered by Zeno Namespaces.

Chen, Qingqing, Zhou, Mi, Cai, Ziwen, Su, Sheng.  2022.  Compliance Checking Based Detection of Insider Threat in Industrial Control System of Power Utilities. 2022 7th Asia Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering (ACPEE). :1142—1147.
Compare to outside threats, insider threats that originate within targeted systems are more destructive and invisible. More importantly, it is more difficult to detect and mitigate these insider threats, which poses significant cyber security challenges to an industry control system (ICS) tightly coupled with today’s information technology infrastructure. Currently, power utilities rely mainly on the authentication mechanism to prevent insider threats. If an internal intruder breaks the protection barrier, it is hard to identify and intervene in time to prevent harmful damage. Based on the existing in-depth security defense system, this paper proposes an insider threat protection scheme for ICSs of power utilities. This protection scheme can conduct compliance check by taking advantage of the characteristics of its business process compliance and the nesting of upstream and downstream business processes. Taking the Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMIs) in power utilities as an example, the potential insider threats of violation and misoperation under the current management mechanism are identified after the analysis of remote charge control operation. According to the business process, a scheme of compliance check for remote charge control command is presented. Finally, the analysis results of a specific example demonstrate that the proposed scheme can effectively prevent the consumers’ power outage due to insider threats.

Cyber-attacks against Industrial Control Systems (ICS) can lead to catastrophic events which can be prevented by the use of security measures such as the Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). In this work we experimentally demonstrate how to exploit the configuration vulnerabilities of SNORT one of the most adopted IPSs to significantly degrade the effectiveness of the IPS and consequently allowing successful cyber-attacks. We illustrate how to design a batch script able to retrieve and modify the configuration files of SNORT in order to disable its ability to detect and block Denial of Service (DoS) and ARP poisoning-based Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) attacks against a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) in an ICS network. Experimental tests performed on a water distribution testbed show that, despite the presence of IPS, the DoS and ARP spoofed packets reach the destination causing respectively the disconnection of the PLC from the ICS network and the modification of packets payload.

The proliferation of autonomous and connected vehicles on our roads is increasingly felt. However, the problems related to the optimization of the energy consumed, to the safety, and to the security of these do not cease to arise on the tables of debates bringing together the various stakeholders. By focusing on the security aspect of such systems, we can realize that there is a family of problems that must be investigated as soon as possible. In particular, those that may manifest as the system expands. Therefore, this work aims to model and simulate the behavior of a system of autonomous and connected vehicles in the face of a malware invasion. In order to achieve the set objective, we propose a model to our system which is inspired by those used in epidimology, such as SI, SIR, SIER, etc. This being adapted to our case study, stochastic processes are defined in order to characterize its dynamics. After having fixed the values of the various parameters, as well as those of the initial conditions, we run 100 simulations of our system. After which we visualize the results got, we analyze them, and we give some interpretations. We end by outlining the lessons and recommendations drawn from the results.

The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to introduce pervasive computation into the human environment. The processing on a cloud platform is suggested due to the IoT devices' resource limitations. High latency while transmitting IoT data from its edge network to the cloud is the primary limitation. Modern IoT applications frequently use fog computing, an unique architecture, as a replacement for the cloud since it promises faster reaction times. In this work, a fog layer is introduced in smart vital sign monitor design in order to serve faster. Context aware computing makes use of environmental or situational data around the object to invoke proactive services upon its usable content. Here in this work the fog layer is intended to provide local data storage, data preprocessing, context awareness and timely analysis.

Meixner, Kristof, Musil, Jürgen, Lüder, Arndt, Winkler, Dietmar, Biffl, Stefan.  2022.  A Coordination Artifact for Multi-disciplinary Reuse in Production Systems Engineering. 2022 IEEE 27th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA). :1—8.
In Production System Engineering (PSE), domain experts from different disciplines reuse assets such as products, production processes, and resources. Therefore, PSE organizations aim at establishing reuse across engineering disciplines. However, the coordination of multi-disciplinary reuse tasks, e.g., the re-validation of related assets after changes, is hampered by the coarse-grained representation of tasks and by scattered, heterogeneous domain knowledge. This paper introduces the Multi-disciplinary Reuse Coordination (MRC) artifact to improve task management for multi-disciplinary reuse. For assets and their properties, the MRC artifact describes sub-tasks with progress and result states to provide references for detailed reuse task management across engineering disciplines. In a feasibility study on a typical robot cell in automotive manufacturing, we investigate the effectiveness of task management with the MRC artifact compared to traditional approaches. Results indicate that the MRC artifact is feasible and provides effective capabilities for coordinating multi-disciplinary re-validation after changes.

Xu, Zhifan, Baykal-Gürsoy, Melike.  2022.  Cost-Efficient Network Protection Games Against Uncertain Types of Cyber-Attackers. 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Technologies for Homeland Security (HST). :1–7.
This paper considers network protection games for a heterogeneous network system with N nodes against cyber-attackers of two different types of intentions. The first type tries to maximize damage based on the value of each net-worked node, while the second type only aims at successful infiltration. A defender, by applying defensive resources to networked nodes, can decrease those nodes' vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the defender needs to balance the cost of using defensive resources and potential security benefits. Existing literature shows that, in a Nash equilibrium, the defender should adopt different resource allocation strategies against different types of attackers. However, it could be difficult for the defender to know the type of incoming cyber-attackers. A Bayesian game is investigated considering the case that the defender is uncertain about the attacker's type. We demonstrate that the Bayesian equilibrium defensive resource allocation strategy is a mixture of the Nash equilibrium strategies from the games against the two types of attackers separately.

Priya, A, Ganesh, Abishek, Akil Prasath, R, Jeya Pradeepa, K.  2022.  Cracking CAPTCHAs using Deep Learning. 2022 Second International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Smart Energy (ICAIS). :437–443.
In this decade, digital transactions have risen exponentially demanding more reliable and secure authentication systems. CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) system plays a major role in these systems. These CAPTCHAs are available in character sequence, picture-based, and audio-based formats. It is very essential that these CAPTCHAs should be able to differentiate a computer program from a human precisely. This work tests the strength of text-based CAPTCHAs by breaking them using an algorithm built on CNN (Convolution Neural Network) and RNN (Recurrent Neural Network). The algorithm is designed in such a way as an attempt to break the security features designers have included in the CAPTCHAs to make them hard to be cracked by machines. This algorithm is tested against the synthetic dataset generated in accordance with the schemes used in popular websites. The experiment results exhibit that the model has shown a considerable performance against both the synthetic and real-world CAPTCHAs.

Kharkwal, Ayushi, Mishra, Saumya, Paul, Aditi.  2022.  Cross-Layer DoS Attack Detection Technique for Internet of Things. 2022 7th International Conference on Communication and Electronics Systems (ICCES). :368—372.
Security of Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most prevalent crucial challenges ever since. The diversified devices and their specification along with resource constrained protocols made it more complex to address over all security need of IoT. Denial of Service attacks, being the most powerful and frequent attacks on IoT have been considered so forth. However, the attack happens on multiple layers and thus a single detection technique for each layer is not sufficient and effective to combat these attacks. Current study focuses on cross layer intrusion detection system (IDS) for detection of multiple Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Presently, two attacks at Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Routing Protocol are considered for Low power and Lossy Networks (RPL) and a neural network-based IDS approach has been proposed for the detection of such attacks. The attacks are simulated on NetSim and detection and the performance shows up to 80% detection probabilities.

Xiao, Weidong, Zhang, Xu, Wang, Dongbin.  2022.  Cross-Security Domain Dynamic Orchestration Algorithm of Network Security Functions. 2022 7th IEEE International Conference on Data Science in Cyberspace (DSC). :413—419.
To prevent all sorts of attacks, the technology of security service function chains (SFC) is proposed in recent years, it becomes an attractive research highlights. Dynamic orchestration algorithm can create SFC according to the resource usage of network security functions. The current research on creating SFC focuses on a single domain. However in reality the large and complex networks are divided into security domains according to different security levels and managed separately. Therefore, we propose a cross-security domain dynamic orchestration algorithm to create SFC for network security functions based on ant colony algorithm(ACO) and consider load balancing, shortest path and minimum delay as optimization objectives. We establish a network security architecture based on the proposed algorithm, which is suitable for the industrial vertical scenarios, solves the deployment problem of the dynamic orchestration algorithm. Simulation results verify that our algorithm achieves the goal of creating SFC across security domains and demonstrate its performance in creating service function chains to resolve abnormal traffic flows.

Ahmed, Sabrina, Subah, Zareen, Ali, Mohammed Zamshed.  2022.  Cryptographic Data Security for IoT Healthcare in 5G and Beyond Networks. 2022 IEEE Sensors. :1—4.
While 5G Edge Computing along with IoT technology has transformed the future of healthcare data transmission, it presents security vulnerabilities and risks when transmitting patients' confidential information. Currently, there are very few reliable security solutions available for healthcare data that routes through SDN routers in 5G Edge Computing. These solutions do not provide cryptographic security from IoT sensor devices. In this paper, we studied how 5G edge computing integrated with IoT network helps healthcare data transmission for remote medical treatment, explored security risks associated with unsecured data transmission, and finally proposed a cryptographic end-to-end security solution initiated at IoT sensor devices and routed through SDN routers. Our proposed solution with cryptographic security initiated at IoT sensor goes through SDN control plane and data plane in 5G edge computing and provides an end-to-end secured communication from IoT device to doctor's office. A prototype built with two-layer encrypted communication has been lab tested with promising results. This analysis will help future security implementation for eHealth in 5G and beyond networks.

The latest, modern security camera systems record numerous data at once. With the utilization of artificial intelligence, these systems can even compose an online attendance register of students present during the lectures. Data is primarily recorded on the hard disk of the NVR (Network Video Recorder), and in the long term, it is recommended to save the data in the blockchain. The purpose of the research is to demonstrate how university security cameras can be securely connected to the blockchain. This would be important for universities as this is sensitive student data that needs to be protected from unauthorized access. In my research, as part of the practical implementation, I therefore also use encryption methods and data fragmentation, which are saved at the nodes of the blockchain. Thus, even a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) type attack may be easily repelled, as data is not concentrated on a single, central server. To further increase security, it is useful to constitute a blockchain capable of its own data storage at the faculty itself, rather than renting data storage space, so we, ourselves may regulate the conditions of operation, and the policy of data protection. As a practical part of my research, therefore, I created a blockchain called UEDSC (Universities Data Storage Chain) where I saved the student's data.

Undoubtedly, technology has not only transformed our world of work and lifestyle, but it also carries with it a lot of security challenges. The Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack is one of the most prominent attacks witnessed by cyberspace of the current era. This paper outlines several DDoS attacks, their mitigation stages, propagation of attacks, malicious codes, and finally provides redemptions of exhibiting normal and DDoS attacked scenarios. A case study of a SYN flooding attack has been exploited by using Metasploit. The utilization of CPU frame length and rate have been observed in normal and attacked phases. Preliminary results clearly show that in a normal scenario, CPU usage is about 20%. However, in attacked phases with the same CPU load, CPU execution overhead is nearly 90% or 100%. Thus, through this research, the major difference was found in CPU usage, frame length, and degree of data flow. Wireshark tool has been used for network traffic analyzer.

DefendR is a Security operation used to block the access of the user to edit or overwrite the contents in our personal file that is stored in our system. This approach of applying a certain filter for the sensitive or sensitive data that are applicable exclusively in read-only mode. This is an improvisation of security for the personal data that restricts undo or redo related operations in the shared file. We use a mini-filter driver tool. Specifically, IRP (Incident Response Plan)-based I/O operations, as well as fast FSFilter callback activities, may additionally all be filtered with a mini-filter driver. A mini-filter can register a preoperation callback procedure, a postoperative Each of the I/O operations it filters is filtered by a callback procedure. By registering all necessary callback filtering methods in a filter manager, a mini-filter driver interfaces to the file system indirectly. When a mini-filter is loaded, the latter is a Windows file system filter driver that is active and connects to the file system stack.

The data centers of cloud computing-based aerospace ground systems and the businesses running on them are extremely vulnerable to man-made disasters, emergencies, and other disasters, which means security is seriously threatened. Thus, cloud centers need to provide effective disaster recovery services for software and data. However, the disaster recovery methods for current cloud centers of aerospace ground systems have long been in arrears, and the disaster tolerance and anti-destruction capability are weak. Aiming at the above problems, in this paper we design a disaster recovery service for aerospace ground systems based on cloud computing. On account of the software warehouse, this service adopts the main standby mode to achieve the backup, local disaster recovery, and remote disaster recovery of software and data. As a result, this service can timely response to the disasters, ensure the continuous running of businesses, and improve the disaster tolerance and anti-destruction capability of aerospace ground systems. Extensive simulation experiments validate the effectiveness of the disaster recovery service proposed in this paper.

As cyber-physical systems are becoming more wide spread, it is imperative to secure these systems. In the real world these systems produce large amounts of data. However, it is generally impractical to test security techniques on operational cyber-physical systems. Thus, there exists a need to have realistic systems and data for testing security of cyber-physical systems [1]. This is often done in testbeds and cyber ranges. Most cyber ranges and testbeds focus on traditional network systems and few incorporate cyber-physical components. When they do, the cyber-physical components are often simulated. In the systems that incorporate cyber-physical components, generally only the network data is analyzed for attack detection and diagnosis. While there is some study in using physical signals to detect and diagnosis attacks, this data is not incorporated into current testbeds and cyber ranges. This study surveys currents testbeds and cyber ranges and demonstrates a prototype testbed that includes cyber-physical components and sensor data in addition to traditional cyber data monitoring.
