Poster: Flexible Function Estimation of IoT Malware Using Graph Embedding Technique. 2022 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC). :1—3.
.
2022. Most IoT malware is variants generated by editing and reusing parts of the functions based on publicly available source codes. In our previous study, we proposed a method to estimate the functions of a specimen using the Function Call Sequence Graph (FCSG), which is a directed graph of execution sequence of function calls. In the FCSG-based method, the subgraph corresponding to a malware functionality is manually created and called a signature-FSCG. The specimens with the signature-FSCG are expected to have the corresponding functionality. However, this method cannot detect the specimens with a slightly different subgraph from the signature-FSCG. This paper found that these specimens were supposed to have the same functionality for a signature-FSCG. These specimens need more flexible signature matching, and we propose a graph embedding technique to realize it.

A Coordination Artifact for Multi-disciplinary Reuse in Production Systems Engineering. 2022 IEEE 27th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA). :1—8.
.
2022. In Production System Engineering (PSE), domain experts from different disciplines reuse assets such as products, production processes, and resources. Therefore, PSE organizations aim at establishing reuse across engineering disciplines. However, the coordination of multi-disciplinary reuse tasks, e.g., the re-validation of related assets after changes, is hampered by the coarse-grained representation of tasks and by scattered, heterogeneous domain knowledge. This paper introduces the Multi-disciplinary Reuse Coordination (MRC) artifact to improve task management for multi-disciplinary reuse. For assets and their properties, the MRC artifact describes sub-tasks with progress and result states to provide references for detailed reuse task management across engineering disciplines. In a feasibility study on a typical robot cell in automotive manufacturing, we investigate the effectiveness of task management with the MRC artifact compared to traditional approaches. Results indicate that the MRC artifact is feasible and provides effective capabilities for coordinating multi-disciplinary re-validation after changes.
Cloud Security Analysis Based on Virtualization Technology. 2022 International Conference on Big Data, Information and Computer Network (BDICN). :519—522.
.
2022. The experimental results demonstrated that, With the development of cloud computing, more and more people use cloud computing to do all kinds of things. However, for cloud computing, the most important thing is to ensure the stability of user data and improve security at the same time. From an analysis of the experimental results, it can be found that Cloud computing makes extensive use of technical means such as computing virtualization, storage system virtualization and network system virtualization, abstracts the underlying physical facilities into external unified interfaces, maps several virtual networks with different topologies to the underlying infrastructure, and provides differentiated services for external users. By comparing and analyzing the experimental results, it is clear that virtualization technology will be the main way to solve cloud computing security. Virtualization technology introduces a virtual layer between software and hardware, provides an independent running environment for applications, shields the dynamics, distribution and differences of hardware platforms, supports the sharing and reuse of hardware resources, provides each user with an independent and isolated computer environment, and facilitates the efficient and dynamic management and maintenance of software and hardware resources of the whole system. Applying virtualization technology to cloud security reduces the hardware cost and management cost of "cloud security" enterprises to a certain extent, and improves the security of "cloud security" technology to a certain extent. This paper will outline the basic cloud computing security methods, and focus on the analysis of virtualization cloud security technology

Circumstantial Discussion on Security and Privacy Protection using Cloud Computing Technology. 2022 2nd International Conference on Advance Computing and Innovative Technologies in Engineering (ICACITE). :1589—1593.
.
2022. Cloud computing is becoming a demanding technology due to its flexibility, sensibility and remote accessibility. Apart from these applications of cloud computing, privacy and security are two terms that pose a circumstantial discussion. Various authors have argued on this topic that cloud computing is more secure than other data sharing and storing methods. The conventional data storing system is a computer system or smartphone storage. The argument debate also states that cloud computing is vulnerable to enormous types of attacks which make it a more concerning technology. This current study has also tried to draw the circumstantial and controversial debate on the security and privacy system of cloud computing. Primary research has been conducted with 65 cloud computing experts to understand whether a cloud computing security technique is highly secure or not. An online survey has been conducted with them where they provided their opinions based on the security and privacy system of cloud computing. Findings showed that no particular technology is available which can provide maximum security. Although the respondents agreed that blockchain is a more secure cloud computing technology; however, the blockchain also has certain threats which need to be addressed. The study has found essential encryption systems that can be integrated to strengthen security; however, continuous improvement is required.

Improvement of Final Exponentiation for a Pairing on FK12 Curve and its Implementation. 2022 37th International Technical Conference on Circuits/Systems, Computers and Communications (ITC-CSCC). :205—208.
.
2022. Pairings on elliptic curves are used for innovative protocols such as ID-based encryption and zk-SNARKs. To make the pairings secure, it is important to consider the STNFS which is the special number field sieve algorithm for discrete logarithms in the finite field. The Fotiadis-Konstantinou curve with embedding degree 12(FK12), is known as one of the STNFS secure curves. To an efficient pairing on the FK12 curve, there are several previous works that focus on final exponentiation. The one is based on lattice-based method to decompose the hard part of final exponentiation and addition chain. However, there is a possibility to construct a more efficient calculation algorithm by using the relations appeared in the decomposition calculation algorithm than that of the previous work. In this manuscript, the authors propose a relation of the decomposition and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method from the execution time.

Debugger-driven Embedded Fuzzing. 2022 IEEE Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation (ICST). :483–485.
.
2022. Embedded Systems - the hidden computers in our lives - are deployed in the billionths and are already in the focus of attackers. They pose security risks when not tested and maintained thoroughly. In recent years, fuzzing has become a promising technique for automated security testing of programs, which can generate tons of test inputs for a program. Fuzzing is hardly applied to embedded systems, because of their high diversity and closed character. During my research I want tackle that gap in fuzzing embedded systems - short: “Embedded Fuzzing”. My goal is to obtain insights of the embedded system during execution, by using common debugging interfaces and hardware breakpoints to enable guided fuzzing in a generic and widely applicable way. Debugging interfaces and hardware breakpoints are available for most common microcontrollers, generating a potential industry impact. Preliminary results show that the approach covers basic blocks faster than blackbox fuzzing. Additionally, it is source code agnostic and leaves the embedded firmware unaltered.

.
2022. With the development of embedded systems towards networking and intelligence, the security threats they face are becoming more difficult to prevent. Existing protection methods make it difficult to monitor jump instructions and their target addresses for tampering by attackers at the low hardware implementation overhead and performance overhead. In this paper, a hardware-assisted security monitoring module is designed to monitor the integrity of jump instructions and jump addresses when executing programs. The proposed method has been implemented on the Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA platform. Experiments show that this method is able to effectively monitor tampering attacks on jump instructions as well as target addresses while the embedded system is executing programs.
DNA Cryptography Based on NTRU Cryptosystem to Improve Security. 2022 IEEE 8th Information Technology International Seminar (ITIS). :27—31.
.
2022. Information exchange occurs all the time in today’s internet era. Some of the data are public, and some are private. Asymmetric cryptography plays a critical role in securing private data transfer. However, technological advances caused private data at risk due to the presence of quantum computers. Therefore, we need a new method for securing private data. This paper proposes combining DNA cryptography methods based on the NTRU cryptosystem to enhance security data confidentiality. This method is compared with conventional public key cryptography methods. The comparison shows that the proposed method has a slow encryption and decryption time compared to other methods except for RSA. However, the key generation time of the proposed method is much faster than other methods tested except for ECC. The proposed method is superior in key generation time and considerably different from other tested methods. Meanwhile, the encryption and decryption time is slower than other methods besides RSA. The test results can get different results based on the programming language used.

A cross-layer attack path detection method for smart grid dynamics. 2022 5th International Conference on Advanced Electronic Materials, Computers and Software Engineering (AEMCSE). :142—146.
.
2022. With the intelligent development of power system, due to the double-layer structure of smart grid and the characteristics of failure propagation across layers, the attack path also changes significantly: from single-layer to multi-layer and from static to dynamic. In response to the shortcomings of the single-layer attack path of traditional attack path identification methods, this paper proposes the idea of cross-layer attack, which integrates the threat propagation mechanism of the information layer and the failure propagation mechanism of the physical layer to establish a forward-backward bi-directional detection model. The model is mainly used to predict possible cross-layer attack paths and evaluate their path generation probabilities to provide theoretical guidance and technical support for defenders. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can well identify the dynamic cross-layer attacks in the smart grid.
Intrinsic Decision based Situation Reaction CAPTCHA for Better Turing Test. 2022 International Conference on Industry 4.0 Technology (I4Tech). :1–6.

2022. In this modern era, web security is often required to beware from fraudulent activities. There are several hackers try to build a program that can interact with web pages automatically and try to breach the data or make several junk entries due to that web servers get hanged. To stop the junk entries; CAPTCHA is a solution through which bots can be identified and denied the machine based program to intervene with. CAPTCHA stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. In the progression of CAPTCHA; there are several methods available such as distorted text, picture recognition, math solving and gaming based CAPTCHA. Game based turing test is very much popular now a day but there are several methods through which game can be cracked because game is not intellectual. So, there is a required of intrinsic CAPTCHA. The proposed system is based on Intrinsic Decision based Situation Reaction Challenge. The proposed system is able to better classify the humans and bots by its intrinsic problem. It has been considered as human is more capable to deal with the real life problems and machine is bit poor to understand the situation or how the problem can be solved. So, proposed system challenges with simple situations which is easier for human but almost impossible for bots. Human is required to use his common sense only and problem can be solved with few seconds.
Cracking CAPTCHAs using Deep Learning. 2022 Second International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Smart Energy (ICAIS). :437–443.
.
2022. In this decade, digital transactions have risen exponentially demanding more reliable and secure authentication systems. CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) system plays a major role in these systems. These CAPTCHAs are available in character sequence, picture-based, and audio-based formats. It is very essential that these CAPTCHAs should be able to differentiate a computer program from a human precisely. This work tests the strength of text-based CAPTCHAs by breaking them using an algorithm built on CNN (Convolution Neural Network) and RNN (Recurrent Neural Network). The algorithm is designed in such a way as an attempt to break the security features designers have included in the CAPTCHAs to make them hard to be cracked by machines. This algorithm is tested against the synthetic dataset generated in accordance with the schemes used in popular websites. The experiment results exhibit that the model has shown a considerable performance against both the synthetic and real-world CAPTCHAs.
Deep CAPTCHA Recognition Using Encapsulated Preprocessing and Heterogeneous Datasets. IEEE INFOCOM 2022 - IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS). :1–6.
.
2022. CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is an important security technique designed to deter bots from abusing software systems, which has broader applications in cyberspace. CAPTCHAs come in a variety of forms, including the deciphering of obfuscated text, transcribing of audio messages, and tracking mouse movement, among others. This paper focuses on using deep learning techniques to recognize text-based CAPTCHAs. In particular, our work focuses on generating training datasets using different CAPTCHA schemes, along with a pre-processing technique allowing for character-based recognition. We have encapsulated the CRABI (CAPTCHA Recognition with Attached Binary Images) framework to give an image multiple labels for improvement in feature extraction. Using real-world datasets, performance evaluations are conducted to validate the efficacy of our proposed approach on several neural network architectures (e.g., custom CNN architecture, VGG16, ResNet50, and MobileNet). The experimental results confirm that over 90% accuracy can be achieved on most models.

.
2022. Blockchain technology has made it possible to store and send digital currencies. Bitcoin wallets and marketplaces have made it easy for nontechnical users to use the protocol. Since its inception, the price of Bitcoin is going up and the number of nodes in the network has increased drastically. The increasing popularity of Bitcoin has made exchanges and individual nodes a target for an attack. Understanding the Bitcoin protocol better helps security engineers to harden the network and helps regular users secure their hot wallets. In this paper, Bitcoin protocol is presented with description of the mining process which secures transactions. In addition, the Bitcoin algorithms and their security are described with potential vulnerabilities in the protocol and potential exploits for attackers. Finally, we propose some security solutions to help mitigate attacks on Bitcoin exchanges and hot wallets.

Same Form, Different Payloads: A Comparative Vector Assessment of DDoS and Disinformation Attacks. 2022 IEEE International IOT, Electronics and Mechatronics Conference (IEMTRONICS). :1–6.
.
2022. This paper offers a comparative vector assessment of DDoS and disinformation attacks. The assessed dimensions are as follows: (1) the threat agent, (2) attack vector, (3) target, (4) impact, and (5) defense. The results revealed that disinformation attacks, anchoring on astroturfs, resemble DDoS’s zombie computers in their method of amplification. Although DDoS affects several layers of the OSI model, disinformation attacks exclusively affect the application layer. Furthermore, even though their payloads and objectives are different, their vector paths and network designs are very similar. This paper, as its conclusion, strongly recommends the classification of disinformation as an actual cybersecurity threat to eliminate the inconsistencies in policies in social networking platforms. The intended target audiences of this paper are IT and cybersecurity experts, computer and information scientists, policymakers, legal and judicial scholars, and other professionals seeking references on this matter.
